War is merely the pointy end of the political stick. Changing minds is always a good strategy of war and factors into it. Whatever you may feel about it, Israel, even with their aggressive waging of this war did not intentionally target civilians. I would hope when the targets are placed deliberately by human shields that the population would rise up against the perpetrators of this illegal tactic. Hoping that the enemy loses favour with the populace because they are committing war crimes, is not a war crime.

While they could do this, it wouldn't make any sense. The US is their largest customer by far and if the US dollar was worth less, then China would get 'less' for their goods. It would be self defeating. You say that like it would be a bad thing for the US. they have a HUGE trade deficit so this would make imports more expensive and make their exports less expensive, so it would help them mroe than hurt them you could argue. You premise is built on the assumption that a devalued US dollar would be bad for the US. Clearly, that is not so. The reason the US favours the Saudi regime is because they know that of the Royal Family get's deposed, the replacement would be a theocracy which would be much much worse.

The closed and mothballed the navy yard there and moved it to Halifax. Hardly unique. Not sure why the government gave them money to close it down though, I'll give you that. Halifax is the DND's major port. There will always be work for shipbuilding/maintenance there. Makes sense to move it to Halifax.

It was nitpicking, but not false. Early atomic weapons were fission based. later hydrogen or thermonuclear bombs were fusion based and much more powerful and had much more nuclear fallout. A common way to distinguish them was to call the earlier weapons 'atomic' and the latter one's 'nuclear'. Who, exactly, is arguing with you on this point? Surely you agree that the use of the bomb ended the war earlier? Sure, and some Japanese never wanted to attak the US in the first place. Point? They needed to convince the emporer and the emporer needed to save face to the people. Veru difficult to do. The use of these weapons made that possible. I do not doubt that Truman had the Soviets in mind as well when he decided to use them, but that does not make the use of them any less moral or correct.

True, there are tactical one's. But if the tactical one's were to be used to counter an armoured attack from the Soviets in Europe during the cold war, then strategic one's would have been used next. Which in turn, rendered their tactical use, useless. They were designed to be tactical in use, but being nuclear weapons, they were indeed only of a strategic value. ie: It countered the Soviets early Armoured advantage.

I hope you are right. I didn't get a LOC of credit to upgrade my home which is nice as far as paying off debts, but it makes it harder to sell. Innocents always die in wars. You can try to minimize it, liek Israel did by doing that commando raid on the apartment building to get the missle launcher rather than bomb it to bits and kil hundreds. I have been watching things closely. I will agree that this looks to be a large correction, but I do not think it will be a recession. Recessions usually require more than one stimulant to start. US sub=prime mortgages do not have the fortitude to start a world-wide recession on their own. I have my home up for sale in Calgary, so at least I hope not. But I do tend to be realistic, even pessimistic, in outlook when I have it all hanging out. We'll see! Wish I had an extra 20k kicking around right now to top up my mutual funds though!

One could argue that the changes started right along with the printing press and Martin Muther's reformation. Prior to this the commoners could nto read and were kept in the dark as to the teachings contained in the bible. They attended masses that they could not understand and places a way too much power in the person they were told that could get them to the after life. The changes that made this not the case, literacy and the protestant reformation, can be argued have more to do with the modern concept of human rights than anything else. Regardless, it is still based in religion. The masses finally being able to understand and read the bible ushered in this new era.
