Jesus Christ, Reagan. How obvious does a sarcastic post have to be anyway? Do you believe the news items you hear on Air Farce are real too? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm sorry but, when I read your posts I have no way of hearing the tone of your voice, the look on your face, or any other body language. I don't know who you are or what you are about. Obviously, parts of the post had some truth to it. No need to be an asshole. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There were no credits or references made on that post indicating the original source of the interview, except that it was a ctv interview. So nobody would have really known it might have come from Air Farce or some other comedy troupe. If that had been clearly identiffied, any reader would or should reasonably acknowledge the true satirical nature of the interview. But because this piece of information had been left out, one would have automatically assumed it was a serious (and slanderous) in nature although obvious fictitious.

Conservatives Finally Get Some Common Sense
daniel replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If they're not careful, the Budget Bill might die too in the Conservative dominated Committee. And then guess who'll be blamed when the cities don't get their much needed cash? And that's not to mention all those other long overdue programs like affordable housing, the environment, and daycare that the Conservatives might kill along with it. Not good going into an election as an viable alternative. -
Funny, isn't Alberta the wind energy capital of Canada eventhough it's always been opposed to alternate energy sources? So the only downside to Lethbridge is also to your benefit.

At 31% Harper's support are those die-hard Conservatives, so that won't change at all. Belinda's decision was due to professional integrity. Whether or not you agree with her reasoning, no professional can continue to publically support a positon he/she personally does not support. Peter MacKay: The only other example or this working out is to look at the history of the BC Liberals. Former leader Gordon Wilson jumped shipped, joined the NDP and had a relationship with Judy Tiabsi (sp?). That's all for now.

The Problem with Federal Elections
daniel replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why is this a problem? Your favourite candidate just proved to you the NDP is a viable option. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I simply don't agree with the idea of spending us into bankruptcy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Has your candidate ever done that? What makes you think the NDP will? What makes you think Conservatives are fiscally responsible - just because that myth is perpetrated by their supporters? Have you seen the track record of some so-called fiscally responsible (Progressive) Conservative or Republican governments? Not so fiscally impressive. -

When Should Harper Pull the Plug?
daniel replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In Ontario, we had a government that campaigned on smaller less intrusive government. It turned out the Tory governmetn under Mike Harris was the most intrusive we've ever had. -
That thread was actually started by The Sweal, not daniel. -k If you and I are looking at the same thread, I agree. But I want to know what Big Blue is referring to.

What you have been suggesting the Liberals do is to make further cuts to balance the budget. If the Liberals do just that they'll be performing another Common Sense Revolution - which I read somewhere that you were opposed. So whether or not you acknowledge or accept the current predicate was the result of the previous government, you are asking this current government to implement policies of the previous one - asking the Liberals to invoke Tory policies. Like asking Tories to implement NDP policies - ain't gonna happen.

I haven't started any thread in these forums for about a year. Show me the thread you claim I started.

I guess for a kid like you two-years is a hell of a long time. (Yes, the Eves government is still a legacy Harris government). Oldies like me remember past mistakes lest we are doomed to repeat them. No issue today is a stand-alone issue. Everything is linked to previous initiatives and actions in the past.

I did? Show it to me.

Mike Harris Why Did He Get Voted Out
daniel replied to CAGERATTLER's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Jumped ship would be a more accurate description. He knew with Walkerton, Aylmer Meat Packing and the Hydro One executive pay scandal, he'd never get re-elected. His inner circle was shocked to learn Eves wanted the leadership. -
But he did his share of cutting: he eliminated the religious school tax credit; reduced OHIP coverage just to name two. But he had to concede defeat for a couple rock-solid Tory deals (that would have made money for Ontario if the Tories hadn't touched them). If you mean to balance the budget to appease these lingering Tory initiatives, then it'll be another full-blown Common Sense Revolution. I thought you were against that.

CIBC supports McGuinty's claim for the 23billion gap. You would rather suffer through three strikes right now the way the Harris Tories did?

What scares me is now Health Care is only the number two issue and the Conservatives will take it literally. -

No, I feel Canadian when I'm making my backyard ice rink. I feel Canadian when I'm paddling in my canoe. I feel Canadian when I'm unrolling another rim to win. -
Mike Harris Why Did He Get Voted Out

Yes, David Peterson lead such a successful minority government that he won a majority government. He left shortly after Canada fell into a recession. Bob Rae entered office when Canada was in a recession. He left shortly after Ontario was experiencing the highest economic growth of any G8 region. Dalton is continuing to make the best out of the Tory mess. But in case you haven't noticed the recent TTC and Teachers' negotiations would surely have resulted in full-blown strikes under another Tory government (because we've seen it before). -

When Should Harper Pull the Plug?
daniel replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That would depend upon the scenario in which the Conservatives form their government. If it's a minority by either election or the GG instructing to form the government from sitting MPs, opposition will keep them in line. But if they get a majority, watch out because anything goes. -
When Should Harper Pull the Plug?
daniel replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I didn't read all the posts, so maybe someone has already stated what I'm about to write. For sure, the Conservatives have a camp that says they should pull the plug as soon as polls indicate they can win even a simple minority government. There's undoubtably another camp that says to wait until their popularity goes to the high 30s or 40 percentage to ensure a majority. This will be all irrespective of the population wanting another election or not. Ontario Tories of the Mike Harris government are considering running federally in the next election. Once in, they'll find out that there's a deficit and that the previous government had been lying about the surpluses and balance budgets we have been having. It'll be a Common Sense Revolution for Canada in which budgets and programs will be slashed or cancelled citing the main financial culprits to be: 1) Gun registry; 2) Sponsorship scandal; 3) Governor General expenses; 4) Health Care But like always, the deficit will grow under the Tories because they will implement several rounds of deep tax-cuts, balloon the military spending and will undoubtably reverse: 1) the decision for missile defence; 2) the National Daycare program; 3) Kyoto 4) Same Sex Marriage Of course, the third option if not a minority or majority government from an election would be that the GG orders the sitting MPs to form another government without an election. That means the Conservatives will have look towards forming a coalition. -
I first read this about a year ago. One comment is that it's true but we are the survivors of all these hazards. There are, of course, those who did not survive to laugh at this.

With "Fiberal" or "Lieberal" you are changing the spelling. Not so with "CON servative".
