  1. ?? Can you clarify? Did you mean the military should be a provincial responsibility? That could effectively make each province its own independant country.
  2. That would be preferable over maintaining the current subsidies for the oil and nuclear industry.
  3. And to restore funding and programs cut and downloaded by the Liberals to appease the right-wing doom and gloom scenarios. And to build a real Green Plan by investing in alternate energy technology just to catch up to Germany, Denmark and China.
  4. That's, or course, your own opinion. Some people believe fighting for human rights and the constitution belongs and defines our country as democratic and free. If you want to talk about cost effectiveness, it would be cheaper - much cheaper - to give away money to the poor than throwing them in prison.
  5. So weren't the Harris Layoffs nor the 60hrs/week he wanted the rest of us to work.
  6. Not necessarily. Rightfully or wrongly, they get government subsidies to stay afloat.
  7. As you know, Alberta is currently rolling in dough but aparantly they don't know how to spend it either. There's a homeless problem there and telling them to get a job isn't going to help. In Ontario, the Conservatives had to sell capital to balance the budget. As for that myth right wingers are fiscally responsible? I certainly don't want this country to be George-Bushed. As well, the current government is taking its experience from the Ontario Common Sense Revolution an experience I certainly don't want Canada to be cursed with. You must have confused the Ontario Premiers. That was Harris. Rae built the 407, saved DeHavilland and Algoma, introduced early childhood education, introduced equal pay for work of equal value (BBM's pet project), restricted export of garbage, and turned the Ontario recession to a boom greater than any region of the G8... Harris gave away control of the 407, cut education and health care funding, cancelled equal pay, set back the garbage initiative by eight years, screwed up the amalgamation of Toronto (with downloads and restrictions on taxing powers), and took credit for the economic growth that started when Rae was Premier. And don't get me started about water and death. Spoken like a true right-winger. Well, I've lived through both the Bob Rae government and the Conservatives and I tell you I would not want the curse of the CSR over all of Canada.
  8. If Rae is going to repeat his record as Ontario Premier, two things have to happen first: 1) the Conservatives will have to screw up the economy again - and that's dependant upon how much Harper wants to George-Bush the surplus; and 2) have a caucus full of inexperienced members - which is unlikely since most Liberals already have governing experience.
  9. Another myth rightwingers like to use in their argument towards privatization is that the private sector can consistently manage better than the public sector. I'm sure we all can without much effort name some well-known companies whose mismanagement can rival that normally attributed to the public sector.
  10. Double post, but these two threads are almost identical. The psychology of the skeptics is described in here: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...st1100775995758
  11. Ah, skepticism. It's all described in here: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...st1100775995758
  12. The Conservative Tax and Budget cuts should follow the same schedule and targets as their "Green Plan".
  13. Yes, I remember Harper proposing that as their policy in light of the Toronto shootings. I also remember Harper's attempt at mud slinging trying to paint Martin as a pedophile.
  14. Easy words to type. Can be applied to any topic of discussion by any side of any debate.
  15. The same kind of comment was made of Paul Martin. Harper's Common Sense Revolution, Lite hasn't taken full effect yet. Southern Ontarians may have to choose between repeating the full Common Sense Revolution or possibly Bob Rae again. Mind you, Rae had some tough decisions to make when he inherited the recession. If Harper doesn't screw up the economy, it'll be different because the Liberals all have government experience unlike the NDP government of 1990. But credit Rae for turning the Ontario economy around from a recession to the fastest growing region of the G8 in his final year.
  16. I couldn't find "Diplomatic negotiation skills" so I had to settle for "Something else".
  17. Maybe this will help explain http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...d=1142722231554
  18. Ah, knowledge. A little knowledge? I recall, someone knowing that Iraq had WMDs. There also was a report to back that up. And who are the people included in "we". Just the exclusive club who thinks this way or everybody in Canada? I also know of a poll where out of the people that will vote Conservative in the next election, Harper has 100% support.
  19. You must be thinking of the wrong guy. Ontario was destroyed under Harris. The economy under Rae went from a Mulroney recession to the fastest growing region of the G8 nations in his last year.
  20. This is confusing. Why would you want a party that runs up the deficit while giving the impression they are managing money well?
  21. I've said it during the Harris Common Sense Revolution and I'll repeat it. Regardless if there is a deficit or a surplus the raison d'etre of the Conservatives is to cut-cut-cut.
  22. The right wing is good at Push Polling.
  23. As long as any Homegrown Solution can meet or exceed the 6% reduction of greenhouse gasses from 1990 levels by 2012, I wouldn't care. Judging by all this talk of any Homegrown Solution doing better, looks like we can meet the Kyoto requirements anyway, so why not just keep it?
  24. Interesting how the man who created the splinter party that nearly destroyed the PCs over the GST has now given a plumb job to the man who created the GST. Of course he can resolve the lumber dispute. We've already seen how he and his team bent over backwards to get a last minute deal from the Americans who couldn't have cared less at the time.
  25. Yes, Canada is a well balanced country. The Left is forced to subsidize militarism and multinational corporations and the Right is forced to subsidize Public Healthcare and Education.
