After having lived through various Conservative governments and Social Credit governments, I can say I'd much prefer Liberal governments. Liberal scandals just don't measure up when in comparison to the scandals the Conservatives and Socreds create.

Same with the UN and "Oil for Food" program. So where were the "Whistle Blowers" then, if everyone knew what type of administration he was about to lead? The "War on Terror" is worldwide. You may be right about Iraq, but maybe they were planning it because Sadaam was not holding up his end of the UN Resolutions and kept kicking out inspectors, while the UN remained silent. Where have you been? They can do without the other... Their Admin have been pulling the strings going on 4 years now. More justification for the corrupt, eh? Nothing has or will change. Uh, oh. Here we go about God. I wonder if God or Jesus really would approve of Cheney's corrupt actions.

OOOH Wow you represent everybody in Ontario eh? Then explain why you put Dalton and rejected the CSR?
-
Yes, of course. And you speak for how many Ontarians?

This Cheney/Bush Administration has conflict-of-interest written all over it. The reason nobody has taken any action is that anybody with the power to do so is probably in the loop too. Enron, Worldcom, Tyco Electronics and all those other corporate corruption cases marking the beginning of Cheney's term was indicative of the type of administration he was about to lead. If Cheney wins the election, there'll be more to come. The war on terror is in Afghanistan. The Iraq invasion was planned years prior to 911. Those of you who maintain the world order is better with Cheney ought to worry if anything happens to him, Bush will be at the helm. Remember when Bush Sr had irregular heartbeats?

Compared to the turmoil and unrest during Harris' first year, I'd settle for Dalton.

Speaking of politicians, Canadians have chosen for their top ten, two liberals, one NDP and the most recent Conservative was about 100 years ago.

To narrow the list, I would exclude politicians because it's their job to do great things. You'd have to be a really pathetic politcal leader to screw up the country. I would also rule out people who have their own personal agenda in mind. Sorry, Terry Fox. An honourable activity to did for a noble cause but if you hadn't had cancer? Also ruling out other people who are paid to do their greatness. That would be Banting. A great discovery, which contributed to world progress as well as his condition that no one or company shall financially benefit from this discovery (something of an example forgotten by US Pharmaceuticals). Banting was paid for doing his research. Also, rules out professional sports personalities like Gretzky and Cherry - who they have made it to this list if they weren't paid for activity which they are great at? I know who I want to vote for but I'm still willing to listen to the other arguments.

Sunday Shopping: An Idea Whose Time Is Past
daniel replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Perfectly legitimate as long as it's voluntary. An afternoon in a park often brings much greater pleasure than shopping for the latest doodad. Unfortunately, an afternoon in a park is not included in economic statistics the same way our purchases of doodads are. BTW, I suspect the CAW would not want the BUY NOTHING DAY to include purchases of new cars. I can't see any big ticket items falling into this category. The purchase is actually drawn out in several days or weeks. If you walk into a car dealership today to do some serious shopping, you don't have to leave with the car keys in your pocket. Does buy nothing mean you are not allowed to put down a deposit? The actual purchase is done after delivery is made and that is negotiated when the dealer telephones you to say the car has arrived when will you drop in with the certified cheque? The date of that is also negotiable. -
Democrats Rebound in Final Countdown
daniel replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Ha! Ha! Ha! I can't belive my eyes, less than a month to go before the US election, and do my eyes deceive me, or are Americans finally coming to their senses, and are going to reject giving Big Oil Cheney's puppet Bush, a second term? Only in America! Truly amazin' Not so fast MapleSyrup. As much as I would also like to gloat, the election hasn't taken place yet. -
Titanic's Captain George Dubya
daniel replied to Jackmoney's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What was Ontario's situation pre-NDP? It was in a recession. -
Titanic's Captain George Dubya

One of those icebergs was pay-equity, swiftly cancelled by the Common Sense Revolution. -
Ignore this statement. It is political bias (and also an exagerration) which is not what you are looking for.

Bush's New Military Draft
daniel replied to Jackmoney's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You people are only finding out about the reinstatement of the draft now? I posted this on November 6, 2003 from a Toronto Star article the day before, but the right wingers refused to believe it. -
BigDookie6: Your label reads "Better to reign in America than..." But you have people serving in Canada and Europe as well as everywhere else around the world. Make up your mind, flip-flopper

Continuous hurricanes in Florida, re-awakened volcano in Washington. Maybe the Gods are telling the Americans not to screw-up the election again.

Kerry isn't much of a leader
daniel replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I agree, BUT re-electing Bush would send out a bad message of approval. Maybe Howard Dean should have been the choice. -
I have never watered my lawn. When there is a drought it does turn yellow, but after a rain, it turns green again. Water should be conserved not wasted on watering the grass. Also, flowers in flower gardens should be native to the region you are living. You waste a lot of resources looking after vegetation that is not native.

Is it still true that women aren't paid as much as
daniel replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course I agree with you here, but this cause is normally championed by the left of our society. The Right, those that let the marketplace solve all our problems and believe what is good for the marketplace is good for society is cool to the idea. First, how would we equalize the wages? Raise all the women's wages to be equal to the men they work with? That's no good to the bottom line of the company involved. Or cut the wages of men to be equal to that of women they work with - unfair to workers. I think the Ontario NDP tried to tackle this discrepancy but I'm not sure how far it got. I think it only went as far as government employees and no more because there was already too much corporate backlash. So that's why it's so surprising you taking up a cause that the NDP tried and the Harris Tories couldn't care less about. Good luck. -

Careful, BB, you're starting to think like a socialist. -
The world economy is dragging along, not great. Since the government in power in the US is a Republican, the economy must be attributed to the world. In Canada we have a Liberal government. The driving force of Canadian business is Ontario, with also a Liberal government. The business centre of Ontario is Toronto, with - gasp a left leaning socialist. And we all know that socialist governments are responsible for poor world economic performance. The biggest thing that David Miller had done (and thus prevented the creation of a few jobs) is the cancelation of the Toronto Island Airport bridge. So, the poor performance of the US economy can only be attributed to the cancelation of the Toronto Island Airport Bridge. And in the end, without crediting Bush to the economy, what else did he do? D*k all.

Do you have a link?

You think I'm stupid enough to trust a Common Sense Revolutionary to follow through? Why do you think Harris quit at mid-term? Why do you think Mulroney quit at mid-term?
-
... Why didn't you also consider this the bashing of Winnipeg, Regina, Moose Jaw, etc etc? as neither Calgary nor any of these other cities were listed in my sentence. In what way do you categorize this particular one as province-bashing? It's, in fact, promoting Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.
