I will quote what a European acquitance of mine said six years ago: "The US never leaves."

With Clinton, the Americans and the rest of the world can roll their eyes and laugh. With Bush, you can't do the same otherwise you'd be laughing at the dead.

Why I'm voting Green Party October 10th
daniel replied to kengs333's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Good for you. I'm not a Green supporter but it's time we voted "for" a party instead of "against" a party. There's too much strategic voting going on with FPTP. The responses in this thread sound like a lot like people trying to protect their turf. Remember when you went searching for your first job and potential employers keep telling you that you "didn't have the experience"? BTW Conservatives (or Progressive Conservatives) are also rooted in ideology. They tried, (and retried) but their methods just don't result in true. -

Two bad examples. Eighteen good examples. Looks like a pretty good record to me that we surely can tweek and improve upon. And how many countries remaining are there keeping this centuries-old FPTP system? -
We tried that already. The result is that we are now starting to pay out compensation to the aboriginals who were forced into residential schools.

My impression of JohnTory is that he's a guy looking for a job - any job. First he tried to the Toronto Mayoralty job. Then the Ontario PC Leadership. If he loses the bid for Premiereship - or even his own riding, watch him go Federal. Wasn't he CEO of Rogers Cable - the firm that negative billed-Canadians?

The Problem with the Liberal Party of Canada
daniel replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I recall someone on these forums stating that "Moral victories are for wimps." and he wasn't a Liberal supporter either. So it becomes very apparant that some people would be content that Canada has a one-party system. -
Eight straight years of a Conservative government (and 40yrs before that) and we still have crime.

Harper Announces $13.8 billion Budget Surplus
daniel replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is anybody really surprised at this finding even after the same old claims of trick down economics, Free Trade, etc. http://www.thestar.com/article/257217 http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...e0-c6b01b0d220a http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...tional/National And a day after this finding is released, our "new" government continues to perpetrate the same old same old. -
Don't worry, I'm sure there's a clause in the Accountability Act that says Conservatives are exempt from the law.

Hook, line, and sinker. And they call the Left "Looney"?

Only the toxic waste is left to the public, and then the right wingers blame how inefficient the government is managing it.

Sounds like some people are trying to protect their turf. Like critics of First-Past-the-Post have always observed, those who won elections by the old method would least likely give it up. Better the taxpayers money goes to the interest of its citizens than to the interest of political and corporate lobbyists. -
Is there anything on or off this planet the right won't privatize?

Never mind your personal ideologies. Those would have been the results of the majority of the population - and no stalemate in Parliament -
The argument goes both ways. If American farmers and food producers had to pay for the full cost of their activities, then we'd have competitively priced groceries, rather than government subsidized corporations.

How is the current system better? Without first-past-the-post: 1) we wouldn't have the FTA as majority of Canadians voted against it; 2) we would still have the National Daycare program as majority of Canadians voted for it; 3) we would still have the Kelowna Accord as majority of Canadians voted for it; 4) the Liberals' coalition with the NDP would have lasted through to 1995 as Ontarions remember the two years after the 40year PC dynasty were the best of governments; 5) Mike Harris would have been prevented from implementing the Common Sense Revolution as majority of Ontarions voted against it; 6) Canada might also not be in Afghanistan. 7) Kyoto would have been implemented and current round of APEC would be a significant 2nd step. -
Disgraced Politician Questions Trudeau Moral Fiber

Clinton/Gore 2000 Not by Presidents but by Prime Ministers. -
Or Joe Ghiz?

Your first claim was that the media was hiding the story. Which was proven untrue. Your next response was to refute what was reported. Sounds like we're heading into another 911/Iraq discussion again.
-
What are you talking about? I've been listening to this story all day from the CBC and the Toronto Star starting a few days ago. And FYI, the police have ruled out terrorism, and religious or political motivation. Did you go out of the way to omit this observation?
-
Evidently, somebody conveniently skipped reading parts of the article.

A precise description of the Iraq War and those WMDs.

What would be more practical: 1) to have industry do proper labelling; 2) to fix the Ozone?

Like I always had said, if Conservatives don't have budgets to cut and programs to slash, they really don't know what else to do.
