Other than not being able to show his face in public lest Simon Wiesenthal or Mossad catch-up to him, Mr Safe Haven For Jews died a mostly-free man in Beirut in 1974. Still on the run, technically, from the Allied hangman, he enjoyed a vast network of protection that kept him well away from his pursuers.
Ironically, he got to see yet another all out Arab attack on Israel (after sucker punching the IDF on Yom Kippur) dismally fail before he croaked .
His nephew, Arafat, had taken on the movement earlier in the 1960s.

There's more, of course.
This was the guy who started the whole Arab Israeli Conflict in 1948. After losing that war dismally, too, ol' Haj got busy and assassinated the King of Jordan (Abdullah I ) for seeking a separate peace with Israel....further amplifying the feud between the Hashemites and al-Husseinis as to who controlled Al Aqsa* and all the $$$ & religious claims that meant/fulfilled. This peaked with the 1970 Black September war between the PLO (then holed-up in Jordan) and the Jordanian Army...the PLO figured Jordan was theirs.
