Should the Conservatives Raise the GST

Obama White House Targets Private Citizen
Canadian Blue replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Doesn't Rush Limbaugh need to exterminate all the "champagne conservatives" first. This will clearly distract him from the clear task of killing off his ideological competition, people like George Will, David Frum, Anne Applebaum, etc. -
Afghanistan war un-winnable?
Canadian Blue replied to Sir Bandelot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Exactly, it's stupid to think that a largely illiterate theocratic society will be able to make decisions regarding their government tomorrow. We should build the institutions you talked about first, eventually when the Afghans are ready they'll have a liberal democracy. -
Should the Conservatives Raise the GST

Sounds alot like democracy, except democracy has only brought forward Nazism and Fascism. In the case of the French Revolution it brought foward hatred of religion, regicide, genocide, and tyranny. Democracies eventually become oligarchies and are inherently unstable. I doubt western democracies will last past a generation or two. Progressive Tory [which is ironic considering you're close to a Jacobin] democracy is inherently unstable. Ask Socrates. My preference is for a Republic where the rule of law is paramount or a Constitutional Monarchy with a limited democracy. Otherwise populism will destroy a society because it is more often based on expedients and tyranny based on the bigotry of the many. Ask the other political parties. Weren't they the ones screaming for "action" like a large stimulus package. With reference to the GST though, the United Kingdom recently cut a similar tax in the hopes of boosting the economic engine there. I'm weary of hearing self-proclaimed experts tell me what needs to be done, more or less because the advice is always dependent on the "experts" political leaning. -
The Conservatives should have let the coalition take over instead of caving into their demands. This entire budget was a joke. At the very least I would have felt comfortable supporting the Conservatives if they had tried minimizing the deficits instead of giving into the demands of the coalition.

Yes, those damn Israeli's with their system of laws and courts. What a bunch of genocidal maniacs. -
Should the Conservatives Raise the GST
Canadian Blue replied to Progressive Tory's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The one thing I find ironic is the people here who are attacking the government for bringing forward populist measures that are meant to please the populace, yet they also argue that our taxes should go to fund political parties that our essentially populist in nature. Can anybody name a party which doesn't appeal to populist sentiments? Maybe politics just hurts the country. After all I'm certain that most Members of Parliament would have made fine whores, snake oil salesmen, thieves, bandits, and con artists, in another life. Actually I'd prefer to be ruled by that group [not MP's, the whores, thieves, con artists, etc.] more or less because they fully realize what they are doing and might have half a conscience. Our politicians have no luxury because all of the harm they do is done in the name of unity, compassion, generosity, and national security. Just for the record, I'd rather be ruled by a [classical] liberal Monarch over a democracy any day of the week. -
Afghanistan war un-winnable?
Canadian Blue replied to Sir Bandelot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I hate to say it but creating a lasting liberal democracy in Afghanistan is likely a pipe dream. The only real alternative is to have one last offensive to kill as many Taliban as possible and then arm the Afghan military as much as we can. Ensure we have secular leaders in positions of power and make them the check on fundamentalism. We can't have our forces dying in Afghanistan for a generation if the people of the country are not willing to fight for their own country. Not really, the NDP aren't realists when it comes to foreign affairs, they're idealists. They're the kind of people you see at a Fish concert smoking dope and talking about how we would all be living in harmony if all the little Eichmann's would go away. They also opposed any military action immediately after 9/11, which is just plain stupid. That's like seeing your neighbour getting raped and just sitting around hoping the guy doesn't come to you next. -

Canadian Blue replied to dub's topic in The Rest of the World
Don't be silly dub, point out how Israel uses human sheilds like Hamas does hoping that the body count will go up thus creating a propaganda victory. For the most part because you seem to have no criticism of a suicide bomber taking out school children on purpose while any action taken by Israel to defend their country is considered "genocide." Notice how the West Bank is much more peaceful than Gaza. Theirs a reason for it dub dub. -
So let me get this straight, even though a fetus can survive outside of the womb after 22 weeks gestation, we should allow abortion on demand up to the day before the pregnancy. Does anyone else see what could possibly be wrong with this picture.

Should the Conservatives Raise the GST
Canadian Blue replied to Progressive Tory's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I generally prefer excise and consumption taxes over income taxes, more or less because I find the income tax to be immoral. Here is what I'd do: 1. Slash all unecessary government departments, the feds can handle defence, national security, coinage, and foreign affairs, leave everything else to the provinces. 2. Get rid of EI and CPP, that's a responsibility that should be up to the provinces, local governments, or individuals. 3. liberalize drug and prostitution laws at the federal level. [thus allowing the provinces and local governments to decide how they want to deal with such issues] 4. Cut the cabinet down to 10 members. 5. Get rid of equalization, brings more division to Canada and doesn't bring about prosperity. 6. Replace the income tax with consumption and excise taxes, as well as putting in a carbon tax about 1/4 the size of Dion's. I don't like polticians getting money simply because some guy put an X by their name. Politicians should be funded by individuals who want to support said politician. I don't see why I should be funding Elizabeth May, I find her insufferable. -
Yeah, good luck proving that one. Face it, all you're arguing is that people who have a conviction that a fetus could possibly be a human life should have no voice in politics. You practice the politics of cowardice, not principle. You prefer living in a politically correct bubble where you will never be exposed nor have to think about the controversial issues of the day for fear you might offend people. But please go on about how conservatism has nothing to do with religion, the family, or traditionalism. Can you even define conservatism? By the way Progressive Tory it's a shame that you weren't around in the 1800's, you could have nipped this Christian radical in the bud before he destroyed conservatism and politics, thus ushering in an era of darkness. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figu...e_william.shtml Out of curiosity, is anyone else tiring of people who claim to be "conservative" yet seem to be far more inclined towards the Jacobins than Edmund Burke? Stop bastardizing conservatism!!!

Nice, I like how you automatically assume all Christians who happen to support the Conservatives are doing it based purely on "evangelism." Has it ever occurred to you that maybe some people think they can raise their kids and live their lives better than some government bureaucrat in Ottawa. But it's interesting that people like Progressive [Tory in name only] seem to think that christianity is some odd idea that has only appeared in the last 50 years or so on the right. I myself have never been threatened by tamborine playing Baptists, but perhaps Progessive Tory had a bad experience when he witnessed Evangelicals operating soup kitchens and being charitable with their own money which likely made him recoil in horror. Yes Progressive, because no other politicians have a desire for power. Great insight. I agree, we don't have a party that champions the Monarchy, traditional Christianity, and noblesse oblige. By the way if you must know George Grant, the arch Red Tory in Canada argued for retaining traditional Chrisitianity in Canada and didn't think much of multiculturalism or secularism. Not to mention George Grants support for the pro-life cause. That is unless you think George Grant is an extreme right winger in the mould or Sarah Palin, or simply corrupt. You don't know the true nature of conservatism, it's likely just a watered down version of Trudeaupia. It usually does when the media has a left wing bias and automatically assumes the odd wingnut is representative of the entire party. "I honestly don't know, I just know that they did go terribly wrong and I don't think I'll be voting Conservative again in my lifetime." Well theirs always room in the Liberal Party where they shy away from any real debate and lead based on what the polls say. Another great thing is that you won't have to ever think about issues which are deemed controversial.

Maybe it was because fewer idiots were coming out to vote, you know, the people who vote based on which candidate has the best hair or mustache. Really, how so? Is it because they support putting repeat offenders in jail longer? What exactly is so radical in the conservative movement that is anti-conservative? Do you even know? How are you a Tory? No offence but you sound like one of those egotistical politically correct snobs who thinks the Nazis will come if we don't print off diversity panthelets as fast as possible. I don't really see what you're trying to conserve, that is unless you want to conserve Trudeau's Canada. In which case you should call yourself a liberal or a socialist.

Canadian Blue replied to dub's topic in The Rest of the World
I'll start this off by saying I'm for a two state solution in the Middle East. However, I'm not a retard so I'll post the following: When exactly has Israel used human shields dub? Hamas is notorious for it, do you really think an organization that has attacked both Jews and Arabs in Israel is really concerned about children in Palestine being killed. Maybe if we simply got rid of people like dub who have a deranged hatred of Israel and the wacko's in the world who think Israel is right on everything, we could finally have a small measure of peace. -
George W. Bush = Harry S. Truman?
Canadian Blue replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
True, George W Bush has put the United States on the road of the New New Deal. All we need is for Obama to rip up NAFTA and put in place tariff walls. -
Online voting increases voter turnout minimum 30%

Really, he won over 50% of the vote through computer fraud? -
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that it will be a $30 billion dollar stimulus package that gives out subsidies to failing business and infrastructure. It's all BS in my opinion, but Canadian's demand "action" regardless of whether it'll actually do anything to stimulate the economy outside of prolonging the deaths of a few crappy business. Regardless it looks like we'll be in a deficit position for a while. Especially since both the opposition and the government want to throw money into endless pit hoping it'll do something. While the Liberals call for tax cuts on the lowest income bracket which won't do anything for the economy since they likely won't invest any money into it, and the Conservatives are content on putting money into digging holes in Saskatchewan. Jack Layton's just juvenile. He still thinks he's within reach of getting a cabinet position with this coalition, unfortunately for him Ignatieff's to the right of Stephane Dion and won't want the taint of the failures of the NDP. Especially if the Liberals want to paint themselves as the darwinian political machine instead of having to actually position themselves firmly on the political spectrum.

People should realize that the only effective way to run Parliament is by a dictatorship. Jean Chretien proved to us all how effectively a government can get things done as long as dissident MP's are gagged and silenced. This is natural in Canadian democracy, it's always been this way. That is unless someone has a way for MP's to become more independent which doesn't include blindly following a political leader. Even Jack Layton kicked MP's out of the party for not following the party line. Who really wants to end up like John Diefenbaker.

The 10 million dollar mistake?
Canadian Blue replied to 85RZ500's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dude, it's Canada. You could raise money for Osama Bin Laden, setup IED's to kill Canadian troops, and plot to kill all the Jews, but you can always feel safe knowing that Dalton McGuinty will give you government welfare and social assistance. -
Yes, people are generally stupid and generally think the government can solve all of the worlds problems by snapping their fingers. Once we get over this notion that politicians are somehow infallible or that we need "charisma" in leaders we will have better politics. Until that time I'll allow the idiots to engage in their little cults of personality.

Support for a Coalition Goverment Now at 50%
Canadian Blue replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To people like yourself it is. That's why you seem to have this ridiculous belief that with a change in government all the games will somehow stop, because that's how it always works in politics. Awe yes, so you just state your a "Progressive Conservative" even though their's nothing conservative about you. You're likely one of these people who think that your conservatives just because you support a balanced budget, something that even the NDP can attain. Don't ask me, your the one who thinks Ottawa wasn't partisan before the evil Conservatives became government. No, general observations. -
Support for a Coalition Goverment Now at 50%
Canadian Blue replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, it's generally a trait with you. That's why you still argue that the GST and NAFTA had nothing to do with our economic recovery. Then if someone does question your allegiance to the Liberals you argue that you're getting "personally attacked" for your apparent belief that Canada requires a one party dictatorship. Or for that matter your belief that Mulroney was worse on the economy than Trudeau, even though the latter brought about far larger deficits in economic good times. -
