Support for a Coalition Goverment Now at 50%
Canadian Blue replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As I stated before I support a minimal government to avoid such corruption. The only difference between me and you is that I don't buy into this cult that a politician will make all my dreams come true. -

For those of us who actually know history, the PQ preceded the Bloc and their was a referendum before the creation of the Bloc Quebecois. That being said Canada was not a utopian paradise like you and Jdobbin paint it out to be before Mulroney. As well Canada's stability and governance would have been unstable if their was no Bloc. More or less because you had both the west and Quebec feeling that they were getting nowhere with federal politics. We could talk about ADSCAM, but then again you tend to ignore any malfeasance if it comes from your own party. As well Kim Campbell was actually quite honest in the election when she stated it was likely that we wouldn't be having a budget surplus until the lat 90's. She was correct of course, but I don't think you want to tell Jdobbin lest he comes to the grim realization that without a one party dictatorship this country will not eventually look like Mad Max 2. -
The 10 million dollar mistake?

Refute it if you like. All I'm stating is that it's a very unlikely coincidence. After all we have seen Islamic fundamentalism show it's ugly head in Canada before. Now I think you have to go and sign a petition to give Khadr a medal upon his return to Canada. -

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people on the left here feel that he should get a medal for killing an American. -

I'm not a "lair." However it is an amazing coincidence that Khadr was able to name Arar without being told his name previously. As I've stated before you guys were wrong on the Khadrs. -

Or the Canadian government just paid out $10 million dollars hoping everything would be hushed up. -

Capricorn, don't you realize that Omar Khadr is a Canadian citizen who just happened to attempt to kill coalition troops in Afghanistan. Some country's would call that treason, unfortunately many Canadian's seem to think he's a great citizen. -

Yes molly, I don't ever recall a separatist movement in Canada before Brian Mulroney, how astute of you. -

Yes, jdobbin, I realize that you think the Liberal Party is infallible and you were opposed to free trade because the LPC opposed it in 1988. It's far better then the consequent Liberal government that abandoned the military after the election thus making us a laughingstock in the world. I also would have preferred Mulroney over the previous Trudeau administration which did far more damage to Canada's unity then any party since. He also got rid of a large proportion of crown corporations. However I'm fairly certain you've proven here that you can't really criticize a thing the Liberal Party does, and will blindly follow them in whatever they do. -

Yeah, a kid who was able to point out Arar by name. Perhaps left wingers like yourself shouldn't be so quick to jump to the defence of possible terrorists. Didn't you guys already shoot yourselves in the foot when Jean Chretien went to bat for the Khadrs in the late 90's? -

What are you talking about, if it wasn't for Brian Mulroney then Jean Chretien wouldn't have been able to take credit for free trade and erasing the deficit [through the GST]. -

In all this commotion, I feel that one question has to be asked and must be answered. Can any supporter of Arar here possibly state he should have still received $10 million dollars if it was very possible that he had terrorist connections. -

When I hear some guy a hundred miles away talking about how he knows whats good for me I release the safety catch on my pistol. Especially when it's under the auspices of the collectivist creed "the well-being of the nation." You're also one of those typical voters that ignores political malfeasance when your party's in charge. I tend to vote based on a simple axis based on who wants more control or less control over my life. -

Yeah, who knew that politicians play games with the nation.... hold on, isn't that their job. If you don't like politicians playing games with the nation maybe you should support limiting government, no? By the way, the majority of Canadian's don't think they should be subsidizing political parties with their taxdollars. I'd say the New Democrats will in fact be the biggest loser in this coalition since they had a chance to deal a deathblow to the Liberals. I really wouldn't mind that, more or less because at the very least you have a creed with the NDP, unlike the Liberals who are just a darwinian political machine. -

Couldn't it be possible that the North Pole is in fact an anarcho-syndicalist commune where everyones equals and that only a few dissidents are spreading lies about said community? Kind of like the Smerfs. -
Palin Unveils Statewide Green Energy Plan
Canadian Blue replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Does anyone else find it odd that the US calls it's heads of departments "Czars," you'd think they would want them to be not associated with a Royal family that was murdered by communists. Sarah Palin really isn't that bad, sure alot of people hated her, especially on the left, but in the end she seems to be a somewhat competent governor. If only she could actually articulate her views on foriegn policy. -
Ignatieff Speaks. Take From it What You Will.
Canadian Blue replied to Progressive Tory's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thank you, PJ O'Rourke is the satirist of our time. I have to admit, I like Ignatieff. However I find him to be similar to Stephen Harper in many ways, both are intellectuals, both are extremely boring, and both are somewhat similar policy wise in foreign affairs. I think Harper wants to turn the Conservatives into what the Liberal Party once was; basically a darwinian political machine that has no real creed and will lead based on what will get them power and nothing else. -

Not to play with semantics, but wouldn't that make him a Communist dictator in the same vein as Kim "I'm so ronery" Jong Il. -

I'd rather be ruled by the whores at a typical Nevada brothel than the faculty at Harvard. I'm a big fan of tax cuts, more or less because I don't like this "progressive tory" notion that the best way to deal with an economy is to tax Canadian's to death and then pay a few bureaucrats to print off diversity panthelets. -

Presidents get threatened with assassination, get outta here!!! Wasn't their some leftish type movie where a director fantasized about a world where President Bush got assassinated. -
Yep, we shouldn't be swayed by those evil tamborine playing Baptists. From what I hear they want to live their lives as they see fit. Where did Jesus exactly say that when it comes to compassion we should use the power of Rome to coerce people into giving? By the way, I wouldn't cite Western Europe, based on the fertility rate Europe won't be able to sustain it's welfare state unless it allows for a massive scale of immigrantion who largely come from actual theocratic societies. So the theocrats and dominionists are similar to Frederick Bastiat and all the other classical liberals who believe in individual liberty. That's some scary stuff, being free to live your life as you choose, man, I'm shaking in my boots right now. I don't know what I'll do once I learn to tolerate living beside Christians in a free society. Guess what, even in Sweden and the Netherlands they give out school vouchers to parents. If they can do it in secular Europe, why not in North America?
