Canada under Harper Is Less Sovereign Than Nevada
Canadian Blue replied to LonJowett's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Meh, not really. I already pay taxes to fund peoples stupid mistakes. Drinking should be more of a privilege then a right. I would be willing to give up my right to drink, if it could be done. But your right prohibition would never work, unless the laws were extremely strict. I would legalize marijauna in much the same way liquor is. But I'm not willing to see unemployment go up so some high school kids can get high. -
Death Knell of Air America

Coulters a nutbar, and one of the more ignorant American commentators. Well isn't their a spot for people who have some centrist views that aren't grounded in ideology. -

Ladyjen, I agreed with your post, it wasn't out of sarcasm. If it was out of Sarcasm I'd have the rolling eyes icon in my message. -

I'd happily vote to make alcohol illegal. It has contributed to a large proportion of the problems that exist in society and I would happily give up my right to enjoy a social drink so the amount of spousal, sexaul, and emotional abuse caused by liquor would decrease. -
Liberals Using sexist Card via Stronach
Canadian Blue replied to jefferiah's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I remember bars in left wing Quebec that refused to serve members of the CF. As well their was a bar in "liberal" Quebec which refused to serve a black man. If a black, gay, coloured, man were to be barred from entering a bar in Calgary then the human rights commission's would deal with that. As well living in Alberta for 18 years, I don't recall an incident were a black man was not allowed into a bar. If it's true, then people would be up in arms over it. Can you give us links to claims that Calgary was actaully like that, and was alone in all of Canada in that regard??? China, North Korea, or Cuba? Conservatism exists everywhere. I'm sure it even exists in your small world. -

It's because most people don't understand that you need all sides of the political spectrum to be involved in political life in order for life to run smoothly. -

User's Guide to Assist in Finding Anti-Harper Commentary
Canadian Blue replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have met Alliance supporters alot since I was on the board of directors for the Canadian Alliance, and a member of the Alberta Alliance. I can say that they usually come from all walks of life, and are really no different then anybody else. Don't believe that all Conservatives are of the same clothe as people on online discussions. -

The NDP are the New Left Wing Liberals
Canadian Blue replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well Ladyjen pretty well all politician's are the same across the board, they usually only do what polls tell them could get them elected. I haven't really noticed a huge difference between Manitoba and Alberta, each one has its advantages and each has its cons. But, I don't think the sky is falling simply because of a change in government. Their have been corrupt NDP, Liberal, and Conservative governments. So far I am happy with the NDP in Manitoba, and am fine with the Conservatives in Ottawa. I don't have anything better to do until I get my education on track, as well as my volunteer work going. So by all means tell us, its probably alot better then brain debate which is too common around here. -

Military families speak out on Afghanistan
Canadian Blue replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thats true, but the difference is if you buy into the myth that all Canadian soldiers ever do is peacekeeping. Then its abit offensive since the CF has never really been into peacekeeping. Members of the CF have a gag order on them, they are not allowed to write to newspapers showing support for the mission, or opposition. As for soldier's families, they are free to say what they want. Once again its not newsworthy, because the CF is just as diverse as Canadian society. Their are people who say the mission in Afganistan is a failure it isn't. The reason were losing troops is because we are in the southern region. As well we can't do much about reconstruction until the Taliban stops attacking us. The problem with some of the people who oppose the mission is that they make members of the CF out to be the aggressor, even though that is not true. The worst comments I have heard so far is that members could be charged with war crimes which is complete BS. This mission has been approved by the UN, and we are making progress, unfortunately its going to take blood, sweat, and tears. What Canada needs to do is push harder for other NATO nations to take a more active role in the south. Which the current government is doing right now. -
ig·no·rance noun 1. lack of knowledge: lack of knowledge or education 2. unawareness: unawareness of something, often of something important So conservatives are basically stupid or selfish in their voting intentions. I'll give you a link to a post from earlier today. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....mp;#entry145907 Here's what I asked you in order to bring about some debate. This was in response to your posts. If you don't remember the priorities that were promised by the conservatives in the last election, how do you know they were wrong headed. I don't really think people have an off day and say "I'm voting conservative because I feel like shit!". If you don't know what Harper's five priorities were, then how can you make such a broad statement. You are trying to classify 5,374,071 Canadian's into three camps. How is it possible to say that not a single one of those 5,374,071 had a good reason to vote conservative. I was even able to list policies that Canadian's could support. As well the Conservatives are exactly that conservative. The sky hasn't been falling as was predicted by the liberals. If you have a point to make, then make it instead of making broad generalizations. I called you arrogrant, and elitist. You shouldn't be offended by that when you say that 5,374,071 are stupid, ignorant, have a self interest, or are having an off day which caused them to vote conservative. By the way, what party did you vote for in the last general election?

Try Politopia.com as they have a very good quiz as well. I find it to be accurate. I scored as a centrist on the politopia quiz. Political Compass Economic Left/Right: -5.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.18 Sounds about right. www.politopia.com

Military families speak out on Afghanistan
Canadian Blue replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Soldiers aren't suppose to take sides on political issues, same goes with their families. The reason why is in the end it doesn't matter who is in government, soldiers go where the government decides to send them. As well people in the CF support this mission, and other's don't. However so far I've seen more support for what were doing over there then opposition. GH, whether families oppose or support the mission really isn't important. The CF is like the rest of Canadian society, it shouldn't be newsworthy. Of course some families will be opposed to the mission in Afganistan. No different then the rest of Canadian society. -
Man, I gotta start drinking again. Allright, if your not with the liberals because you quit in disgust, then who do you support politically? As well what made you volunteer and then quit in disgust? I volunteered with the conservatives nearly two years ago, and quit as well after one of the campaign advisors said that he would ignore any questions about abortion. No, I want to know how you can say that millions of people can be divided into four camps, each negative. Despite the fact each person is an individual, with individual beliefs. Have you ever read Identity and Violence figleaf. Allright, weren't you the one that asked me how stupid I was because I voted for the conservative party. I believe that you are just as guilty of spewing personal attacks as much as I am. Here's the senate, urging the government to arm the CBSA. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2005/06/15/...port050615.html

Rovic, does anybody trust any politician. Politician's are the least trusted group of people in the country, and theirs a reason for it. Chretien said in 84 he wanted to bring in PR when the system wasn't working for him. Then when first past the post worked for the liberals they didn't bring in PR. It seems that pretty well all politician's are only in it for power no matter what the cost. Thats especially true with our current system of government. http://www.fairvotecanada.org/
-
When MP's were given free will to speak out on issues, the media was constantly tearing them apart. If we had PR then alot of our problems would be solved, in 93 we would have had a Reform opposition instead of a BQ oppostion. However, until a popular politician implements it, I don't see it happening ten years down the road. With a Liberal government or a Conservative government.

Ignatieff proposes to recognize Quebec as a nation
Canadian Blue replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Didn't a newspaper article say that Truman was voted out of office back in the 40's. Wait till election day my friend. -
I agree that some of the costs were harsh. However the government shouldn't be funding groups with a political agenda, which the previous government was doing. Funding should be cut for any political organization. Human costs should always be looked at when cutting any funding. As for women being anti-war, its true that women are usually more compassionate then men. However it would be wrong to classify "anti war" being a characteristic of women since in many cases in history women have started and fought wars. Just and unjust.

I don't really like any of the major parties, I vote for conservative simply because they are better then the rest. If the Reform party was around and had stuck to its original principles I would have supported them. However with PR, people are free to vote on who they think has the best platform, not based on which of the two lesser evils they prefer. Thats been happening in our elections, as well as down in the United States as well. The positive with PR, is usually their will never be a majority government, a party has to compromise in order to get into a majority position. This is the best way to run a government as the majority of the population is represented unlike the current sitaution. Have you ever done volunteer work with any political body Figleaf? Well, since you can't provide any substance to your claims then I don't really see how it can be an excellent analysis. Excellent analysis usually brings about something of substance. I doubt your going to be able to show it in your next post since it doesn't exist. If you can't show personal experiences, or anything concrete to add to it, then the theory is as flawed as the author. You don't have to fax them, simply name your credentials without giving out your identity. If you have this huge wealth of knowledge then we should know. I'm not a political scientist, and I'm not afraid to say it. You were shown proof of the CBSA fleeing their posts. You simply chose to ignore it. I think saying that about 1 out of 3 people are ignorant, stupid, and thoughtless, because you don't like the way they voted is a bit more deranged then calling you arrogant. My abilities in grammar are fine, despite the odd mistake. If you can't come up with anything valid to debate then stop going on about grammar. It's like getting into a debate with Chretien about unity, and then simply debating his ability to correctly speak the english langauge. As well I can admit that I'm a mad typer, and will often have to go back and correct typing mistakes. Lets see, top marks in BMQ for academics. Top marks in Social Studies throughout Junior High and High School, MLA for a day. I don't know what else you wanna go on about. Your not a liberal or left wing, yet you came up with this psychological analysis of why all conservatives vote. Interesting indeed. I'm still waiting for you to put me in one of the camps you listed and give your reasons behind it, in order to prove your theory.

Do Leftists eventually turn Right?
Canadian Blue replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
Well, I've actaully made more of a movement from the right to the center left in the last two years. Here's the thing in Canada, its hard to really say whats conservative, liberal, socialist, and centrist. The conservatives are still governing a country which has the most liberal laws and policies regarding gay marriage, abortion, welfare, immigration, criminal justice system, and multiculturalism. I think the whole left vs right debate is abit useless. Each one can bring forward a valid point, and each one deserves to be heard. The left wing has helped bring forward some positive change, and the same can be said with regards to the right wing. Nothing is absolute. PN where about is that huge beam particle weapon or whatever it is? -
Is he definitely joining the Green Party, or is this just a rumour.

No doubt, any idiot can use the common sense argument. Really, if your gonna be credible you have to have some substance to it, even when its a "common sense" argument.
