  1. Then better to just give up. After all, the world is flat, the earth circles around the sun and moon, Hitler is a good guy, Star Wars doesn't work, and I should have stayed working in that factory as a welder ten years ago. Get lost, no sorry. Don't. Just keep doing what you always do, that's safer, and let's those who want to progress to rise to the top easier. A simple refutation; The world has to change, food wise you cannot feed the population without distribution. Dictators prohibit distribution and enact deliberate starvation as a way of maintaining power. You endorse this? God, you are more violent than you let on. Peace through planetartry starvation, as long as it isn't the University crowd.
  2. The interstate system works. Any victories scince then?
  3. Hate to revive this old thread but needed to ask a question; Priest: Krusty Kid, do you solemly swear to ....... KK: Whatever. Koffee Anon: They do. Priest: I now pronounce you, KK, ruler and husband (or bride) of the world. (Only effective in Canada.) KK: World, strip.
  4. If the shit hits the fan, will I at least get to vote for the Taliban candidate of my choosing? If I can't then at least let me vote Liberal or Communist (NDP)
  5. Still wondering why you guys figure that there is NOT WMD material in Iraq. I can wait. I'll keep bringing this to the head of the forum though. After all, you are the ones telling us that Kay is wrong in finding stuff. Tell us why there is NOT ANY WND material there. When did it leave? How did it leave? Or just tell me that Kay 'might' have found things relevent to this.
  6. I would like to know why Saddam, having not adhered to the ceasefire of 91 should have expected not to be attacked.
  7. Hugo, I didn't write in ancient Chinese. What is so hard to understand that it is not so easy to simply say "NO!" You have a lot of things to fight against, people that have abortions are not swayed by the same arguments that give you conviction. They are more material and immediate satisfaction orientated than you or I. That is the point. As for afraid to take action, that is a presumtion on your part. It is not a section of society that this is happening to but the WHOLE society. It's crumbling around us, not just this segment. Man, a pack animal currently living in a HIVE environment. Note the occurence of violence in large cities compared to smaller (yet similarly populated states or provinces.) Big difference. Now, imagine you live in a town of one thousand. Think many abortions would be happening there? Oh, I just realised that I never gave an answer on what to do. Divide and conquer. Late term, easy. Now put some money and aim for the early teens. Safe houses and a cash bonus of $10 Grand when they deliver to an adoption agency. Can't come up with that kind of money? Oh well, guess abortions will stay as is in this capitalistic society. Unless of course we convert to communism or some form of government where we can kill the woman if she aborts. Change of tactics rather than same old rhetoric that works on responsible people is what is needed, and a change in the society as a whole.
  8. The organisers of the rally are Communists, Islamist Fundementalists and Watermelons (green on the outside, red on the inside.) "Useful Idiots" fill in the spaces. Silent majority wins again.
  9. If by "strict" you mean out to lunch then sure. I would suppose that a Canadian beaten in a Mexican jail is reason for the Belgians to mobilize to attack Mexico. I doubt that is you supposition and also doubt that NATO was formed to do what is right around the world. It was merely an organization that had the power to do what was right at the time. Funny isn't it? NATO had more moral grounds to bomb the Serbs and no legal ones yet the US is blamed for continuing Gulf I because Iraq never abided by the ceasefire?
  10. Remembere the headlines from the Imbedded Reporters? "Bogged Down" "Viet Nam" "Elite Republican Guard" "Stiff Resistance" and so on and forth? The biggest story of all would have been; Naw, considering the anti war fervor that sold as many papers as pro, can't see any reporter giving up a chance to write this one. They didn't though. Wonder why?
  11. Kids are a blessing to me. But Hugo, scince when am I undergoing an abortion? It's not me you have to convince. Hugo, I am a 47 year old self employed male. I have acted responsibly and still do, somewhat anyhow. I was reffering to the young teenager who is watching her life go down the drain (in her mind). A firday night does mean a lot to these people, if you can't relate then perhaps that is part of the problem. They don't want to lose their adolesence with all the activities and all. To say simply "too bad baby, you spread you legs" is a sure fire way to get them to say "Ofay Big Bubba" and go for the abortion. As I said, to send over some support group that gives them a pat on the back and a sermon on responsibility and then leaves a box of formula and kraft dinner is crap. You want to stop the abortions provide a real incentive, ca$$$h that they can build a real life on, one that they can buy a car, hire baby sitters to go out and go to school, rock concerts like they used to, boyfriends like they used to and so on. A friday isn't a big deal to me as I'm usually somewhere making money but it is to an 18 year old. You had better come up with a better incentive for them than "Pip pip and keep a stiff upper lip" Right on Hugo. You, of course are stating the obvious for the millionth time. Now try to state it to the right audience in the right way, that is your problem. A sexual libido with a euphoria of self immortality. That is the enemy, fight that in a way that a young person who stopped listening to anybody over thirty a long time ago will go to the bank on. I didn't know that. That is great info to know. Once again, I do not doubt you. Taking this information a step further a way must be made to make carrying a baby to full term available to thse would be mothers. They do not want to lose a school year, forget about their social life, get fat, end up on a soup line, face up to dad or mom, look dumb in front of friends and so on and forth. Hugo, I suppose my whole notion here is that it is one thing to say what we all know but quite another to get a selfish kid to give it up to make you happy. The last thing they are worried about is the fetus, they want to carry on like nothing happened. Hopes and dreams, you have to find a way to replace those with real, tangible things. To provide counselling and a food donation is not tangible reality to a person who had dreams of becomming a rock singer or going to spring break. Sure it's possible, but better get some new shtick, it ain't working like it is. Just as an example (not a very good one BTW) My girlfriend (now my wife) came to me years ago and said that she was pregnent. We had not talked about children or anything and she knew me from the practical person I was that I might be (you know, pro murder or something evil like that.) She wanted to know what we thought about it and of course we talked a lot but it involllved phone calls, dates, insurance, house renovations and whatever. Abortion never was mentioned once, even in passing. Then again, we were financily able, mature, responsible, had our childhood and adolesence and were good to go. The ones you are aiming for have zilch.
  12. Refer to point #5; Kosovo was done under a NATO mandate. NATO is a defense organisation, not a problem fixer like the UN. If one is attacked they all defend. Serbia did not attack any NATO country.
  13. Hi Hugo, you have to remember that those who do not believe as you feel that the fetus is part of their body and is not a separate entity. A growth or whatever. If they do believe such as you then they can convince themselves otherwise, it is this selfishness that enable some of them. To these, no argument save one that is in their self interests is of worth considering. So now that the woman has had sex she is on her own in making this religious, life changing, anti social decision? Where is dad? Where is money? Where is the people that will take care of her? I'm not talking about some ladies club comming to tea at her group home but tens of thousands of dollars so she can buy a whole housefull of furniture, a car, hire babysitters so she can go to school and party out on a friday night like she wants to? This is not Pollyanna world, these are kids who are giving up a future as a kid. They don't want to be subjected to sitting in a dorm bottle feeding some child while the world passes them by to make Pro Life people happy. You have to provide that to make a viable argument. The high profile Female CEOs I'm sure are not your target here and can take care of themselves anyhow. If it is a human life. Of course it is innocent, cut the rhetoric. Do you think for a moment that somebody who is unfeeling enough to kill or rid themselves of something that is possibly life gorwing inside themselves worries a lot about accoutablility? My solutions are first to come together. Stop being Pro Murder and Pro Dictatorship and beome Pro Choice and Pro Life. The decision of when and where life starts is easy for you, at conception. Others do not see it that way. Let the judges off the hook so that they can make decisions without cutting the branches they are sitting on. Instead of all or nothing set term limits for abortions. Make the father accountable, make a realistic dollar amout available for girls that will carry a baby to term. You spoke of adoption but let's be realistic, a million and a half? I doubt not the numbers but try and screen them Hugo. Devil worshippers, sexual predators, slavery brokers. It's unfeasable, now screen the kids and moms to match. No way you are going to reach your goal of cancelling all abortions, not even twenty percent on this proposal. Money talks, freedom talks, judges are reluctant to cut off freedom from voters to give it to a being that is not even a being in much of the country's eyes.
  14. Again: all well and good, but it seems to me people are constantly bitching about the state of dissaray the Forces are in. What's wrong with focussing on whatever we do best. The above is a tall order. Nor is "blasting hell out of Iraqis" but you sure heard a lot of whining when we didn't do that. It is not a tall order. My job is to dres for work, show up, do my thing, not kill anybody, get paid, go home, play dad, take care of some house chores and relax so I can be mentally and physically prepared to do it again the following day. These things are not all crammed into the same minute as they take place at different times and some of them do not take place at all. It's priorities. That's all. The list I provided is the official one. If followed it sets the priorities for the allocation of personel and materials. If for example we are patrolling our coast lines with all our ships we cannot send any to aid the UN. Iraq was in violation of the 1991 cease fire so it was still legal to partake in Gulf II as Gulf I had never ended.
  15. I thought that the Left had declared that Afganistan would be America's new Vietnam. Wish they would make up their minds.
  16. Gee, that's not vague at all. Sorry, but "mission satements" don't cut it. There are serious questions to be asked, and we need to establish what kind of jobs we want our Forces to be able to do. Personally, I think the CF is plenty well-funded. It's just that there's far too much waste and inefficiency. CAF Mandates in Order of Priority. !. Defense of Canada 2. Aid to the Civil Power 3. Defense of North America 4. NORAD 5. NATO Commitments 6. UN Commitments 7. Search and Rescue Note that bombing the hell out of the Serbs did not fit into any of these Mandates but you don't hear much about that.
  17. Well then Lonius, if, in your opinion, finding all sorts of WMD, links to Al Queda and happy Iraqis is a forgone conclusion by a dishonest inspector I suppose you will be leaving this thread yawning in boredom. Scince in your belief there is an unproved conspriracy, until you can prove it your posts reffering to WMD belong in the "Conspiracy" thread. BTW, just wondering, with all the stuff that the guys found in the nineties and Blix still found in 2002, didn't you see a pattern forming? You know, one that showed Saddam still kept hold of whatever he could get by the inspectors? With all the reports from UN sources why does it seem unbelieveable to you that there might be WMD material in Iraq? This is the true mystery. Do you think that from the time that Blix left Iraq until Iraq Freedom began that the stuff flew out the hole in the ozone layer? It all must have gone somewhere as Kay in your opinion has found nothing. Where did it all go?
  18. I look at reason and logic Lonious. Bush has at the very least unknowingly exaggerated the WMD threat in order to invade Iraq to plant democracy. At this pointin time Kay is not doing a search for the express purpose of vindicating Bush, if so they would have found all sorts of smoking missiles and vials of bad stuff. He is doing what they need to do to secure the country. If you don't believe that, then there is only your personal imagination to go on. I don't think yours is too active but check out some of the anti war crowd, everything from Bush planning 911 to doing this for Iraqi oil. I try to keep my reasoning within possibilities. Yes, it is possible Kay is not going outside Baghdad and is doing nothing but typing bogus reports from a hotel in Rijhad somewhere instead. Somehow, that does not seem the case. What do you think he is up to?
  19. So then, which is it, does he support Riff's contention that his report is wrong and that there is no WMDs in Iraq or that there is none but lots of material and lots of Al Queda links? What I am trying to say is that you either believe a source is right some of the time and wrong some of the time, all the time or none of the time. Not picking and choosing which times to suit your arguments.
  20. Derek, there is nothing right about abortion, nobody can deny that. However your argument while making perfect sense to you and others like you contains two unshakable personal opinions; that the fetus is a human and that it has rights over the mother. These two things are the crux of your argument. The first; that it is a human is obvious. A developing human mind you but human. Heart beat and brain activity are touted as proof that it is a human but then of course at some point it is going to have these functions, you cannot give birth to a non functioning being - it would be dead and therefore a non functioning being. As for having human atributes and features that is a given, would you think that it would have the features of a camel? As for having nerves and reactions, so does a Norwiegian Rat fetus. These things may make it human to you but does not give the same proof to all others. The next point of rights is also personal. I am here, I exist and am truely human. I function, think, interact and hold beliefs. For a second person to tell me that a being that I do may think is a human, has more right than I is wrong. Just as it is wrong for me to order you what to believe.
  21. washington post cites briefings from kay saying there are no WMD links... it seems more and more like some people want it to be known thier intelligence was twisted. i'm sure the CIA doesnt appreciate having its accuracy questioned around the world. SirRiff But Riff, I thought that Kay had no credentials? If so, how can you take the word of Cordsman when it is based on such crap as Kay and his report? Make up your mind, is Kay credible and his WMD search also legit or is he an idiot and unqualified and therefore Saddam may have transferred WMD to Al Queda? Then again, scince you change your opinion on the reliability of sources from day to day - never mind, forget I asked.
  22. Exactly. It is called foreign policy. It's a political tool. The enemy of mine enemy is my friend. A saying, not a hard fast rule. It is applied by every government on the planet to some extent. France and Germany, Germany and Israel, Canada and Russia. Comon guys, let's move on out of grade school here and stick with reality. This was not the cause of all war, if it was France would be hip deep in blood in Iraq, Viet Nam and Russia would be fighting the US alongside Egypt. Alliances change, it's politics.
  23. I don't know them well but do know a very good friend of mine was from that Regiment. Larry Hartinger. He was on my Airborne Indoctrination Course. He was with the Skyhawks and died in 89 after getting hit with the tail of a Dakota during a demonstration jump. Good enough for him, good enough for me. He was a good soldier.
  24. They are harmless. I joined one when I got out for about six months before I started my next adventure. Worked with a couple of ex Airborne guys I knew, they were just as motivated as they were in the Borne but showed the humanity that a true instructor understood. They were instructors not pain givers (although some would think that was their mission) and we all knew that the object was to motivate and instill idealology and a certain amount of militarism in the young people comming in the door without being an asshole. Gone are the days of the old Bristish Boot Camp. Power trippers are a thing of the past or will be if they go too far as It does not wash with the knowledgable recruit these days. It is hard yet rewarding to deal with a thinking human X 30 but that is where disipline comes in. As a reservist you get exposed to it but not in the extreme. It's phased in as you are ready. I would make the call, good time of year, there are lots of kids in the same boat as you right now and the training year has just started so you won't be too far behind. What is the function of the unit or it's name?
  25. First off, get your friend off your back with this comeback; Do you think that firemen hope for a devastating fire they can risk their lives on? Do you think that a policeman with a family just itches at the beginning of each shift change for a chance to meet up with a shotgun toting madman? Of course not. Then why would an intelligent human think that a soldier wishes to be thrust into harms way? If it is comaderie you are looking for there are a variety of ways to acheive this without joining the military. Most are better paying for a fit, energetic and motivated youngster like yourself as well. Tree planting and Siesmic are two and working as a laborer or minimum wager in the NWT is another. All pay well, give a good slap in the face to wake you up, provide many excellent adventures and memories as well as diversify you into a realm that 99% of Canadians don't see or understand. It you are stuck on the military and don't want to leave home in order to test the waters then you can join up with your local Reserve Unit. Just about every town has one in some way, shape or form. Look in the yellow pages under recruiting and they will tell you what and where the nearest one is. It's part time but has one big attraction and that is the intrest factor. They have to keep youngsters like yourself interested otherwise you will go someplace else. Some of these Militia Units may seem pretentious but don't forget, when we had half a million guys in uniform during the War they all came from these units. They are their history and ours. These units also have opportunity to enhance overtasked Regular Force Units as well on UN missions as well as what is going on in Afganistan. Hope this helped. Good luck!
