  1. Please listen to him August1991, it is one of the best in say 30 years. here is the link (related Video in two parts) http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories the best was "why did I do it, because that is what the country needed, and that is what leaders do." Let me know if you agree.
  2. If you heard Stephen Harper speak tonight you must be convinced he is the real deal. Not just leader of the CPC but also PM. C'mon, admit it everyone.
  3. So they have critic experience for the most Part and untill they elect Ontarians you can't guess but you would need more in a real cabinet. Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency ? 4. I would go further than Harper and suggest a culture of defeat exists in aboriginal cummunties and some farming communties and I'm sure others can point out more. To state a fact of life is not blameworthy and hardly a reason not to support Harper. To address a problem you must first admit there is one. Liberals won't look at the problem because they would have to admit they helped create it. This leads us directly into provincial jurisdiction and a firewall. If Harper said, build a firewall around the Atlantic fisheries to protect it from federal mismanagement, he would be a hero out there. Because he said it about Alberta, he is a goat, I don't think so. Allow me to put what Harper said into Liberalese For generations the federal government has taken the spirit of a once great community and replaced it with a culture of defeat. (culture of defeat) The federal government has become so layered and bloated it now threatens, not just provincial rights and responsibilities but those of cities and individuals too.(firewall) Many political leaders have said things that are insulting to groups, regions, individuals, ect. It wasn't enough to keep them from federal politics. Trudeau was the worst and Cretien a close second. I'm not buying the "Well, Harper has baggage 'cause he said this and that." On supporting the Iraq war and backing the US. What complete hypocracy from the centre left. As if the so called right has to teach them a little something about solidarity. You wanna break a company and its CEO, all Unions are called upon to boycot, pester, and picket. No problem as long as it advances your own personal station. Want to take out an obvious tyrant and make sure he has no weapons that might find their way to Montreal(God forbid) and free a people in the process. No we won't get behind that in solidarity. This still bugs the hell out of me because of the double standard.
  5. This is exactly what I mean, no specifics just general statements. Please be specific and I'm sure you'll find most of these grievances are false and outside of context.
  6. I'm still in shock over the Globes endorsement of Harper for leader. Could it be true of a Kinsella retraction in the same week.
  7. I was reading Kinsellas latest musings and can anybody shed some light on what he is refering to on March 18. Regarding Stephen Harper. http://www.warrenkinsella.com/musings.htm
  8. The Alliance was rewarded with over 1 million votes in Ontario in 2000 and that was without any high profile Ontario candidates. This does not include the Conservative numbers. The Liberals did not do as well as that in the west with high profile western candidates. By your own arguement then the Liberals are Ontario centrist and this gives them legitimacy over the now merged entities that received 37% of the vote in Ontario. The Alliance had and has strong support in Ontario, much more than the Liberals do in Alberta. On personality I would say he is the opposite of Day and isn't this supposed to be a good thing. A shy, introverted, intelligent, manager type. Wow, I guess no leader from the west is worthy of being in federal politics because Ontario will surely find fault some how. You won't hear the actual reason of dislike just some vague excuse, pro-this, anti-that, hidden agenda. It would be refreshing if you just came out of the closet and admitted to being prejudiced towards the west. Oh ya, a new logo does not a new government make.
  9. What Harper stated Was in response to Paul Martin suggesting a coalition between Conservatives and the Bloq would damage Canada. Harper has ruled this scenario out and now wishes the Prime Minister to do the same, simply because a Liberal coalition with the NDP could stifle a governments ability to govern effectively and likely scare away new jobs and investment in Canada. In a minority situation, would this be more or less damaging to Canada than a Conservative, Bloq agreement in the house on specific issues? The Liberals already have a nationalist wing within the party that puts Quebecs interests first. Why the hell is it hurting Canada if the Conservatives do it in open with the Bloq? Oh ya Liberals don't like openess. Show me one viscious attack by Harper so I can strip away the spin and show how maplesyrup is really sap.
  10. Hiti Can you show me the the news article that suggests Harper is a fan of US medical system. If it is the one I read by Robert Fife, well your out of your mind. Harper was aksed if his mom was sick and he was Prime Minister would he pay to have her treated in the US. His response was what everyone would say, " I can understand the temptation to have her treated but as Prime Minister you just can't do that". An honest answer from a person of integrity. Not the BS Tony spewed forth, "well it is the only health system we have." Sorry buddy but a hell of alot of Canadians with BLING, BLING, already give in to temptation by making sure their loved ones get what they need by paying for it. Don't insult our collective intelligence by suggesting otherwise.
  11. Right, I remember Manitobas last incarnation of an NDP government. Howard Pawley and his gang raised auto insurance premiums 800% in one year to cover the failed venture of another monopoly known as MTX in Saudi Arabia. The very next election, the Gary Filmon Conservatives began 12 years of clean up. Manitoba now has balanced budget legislation and a promising future. That is unless the current NDP screw things up again.
  12. I have no problems in seeing this person put to death. Not for vengence, not as a deterent to others but to simply remove the burden and protect society from these wolves.
  13. The government has no incentive to pull bad drivers off the road. Sure Pay a fine, sit out for awhile, but get back on the road and buy gas and pay higher premiums as soon as possible. Bad drivers, like smokers are a big source of revenue and the government has no desire to eliminate it.
  14. Hi guys. I thought I might like to join you in your dream world but I can't seem to get that far out of reality, Sorry. Lets pretend Jack can get all the support from CA and PC and 33% of Liberal support from 2000 in Quebec. Still no breakthrough. No breakthrough in Quebec and no big numbers in Ontario even with the perfect storm and the alignment of planets over Ottawa. I can understand the need to reach beyond the scope of reality for dippers, given they rank 10% or 1.2 million votes back of an upstart, leaderless party. Maybe you could make your posts under the heading socialist fiction and wet dreams. Just a thought.
  15. The last thing I would want is a bunch of ex-politicians supporting me. I think it is brilliant that Belinda who claims to have no political baggage of her own has become the baggage handler through association. If Mulroney and Manning and Mike don't like Harper or if they choose to sink Belinda in Ontario with Baggage, so be it. Either way Harper can say he is not connected to past Ontario rejects, castoffs, and throw aways. How is this a problem for Harper?
  16. I've included the link so you can read the whole story on CTV online. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...7///?hub=Canada
  17. Well I understand Manning has endorsed Stronach. I have not read any rationale to this and I hope it is not continued sour grapes, because geez man make some wine already. So if Stronach wins with Mannings endorsement wouldn't that mean a Reform take over of the Conservatives? Does this endorsement not totally disprove the whole Alliance take over thing? It is as if Joe Clark endorsed Harper.
  18. Maplesyrup I Really expect the Liberals to attempt to make tolerance an issue. In other words they will try to make out that the Conservative party is intolerant of gays, bilingualism, immigrants, free health care, blah blah. The Conservatives are not intolerant, they simply have positions on issues and are happy to state them. It is called integrity and this will be the real focus of the campaign.
  19. Thanks for clearing that up Gugsy I couldn't be typing that much as I have a sprained wrist. August1991, Well you have an interesting mix of loggers and huggers on the Island. So you can figure it from there right? I was only to the Island twice too, but the locals couldn't help but show their disdain for the huggers interfering with the tree economy.
  20. Well I'll argue that the Conservatives win Ottawa south thanks to the split created by the victims wife and the Premiers brother (sounds like a mini series on CBC). Alliance had 12,677 votes PC had 8,096 votes Jon Manley 26,585 votes NDP 3,463 votes Conservatives could pull this one out of the bag.
  21. At this point I don't care who benefits be it The Bloq at 49% in Qc or the NDP at 29%in BC or the Tories at 31% in Ontario. The important thing is that the scandal has eaten into the support of Liberals in key areas.
  22. No I'm not a Newfie, I'm a Winnipegger that escaped the tundra for the wet coast and ultimately landed in the thirsty Okanagan. Anyway, I think this whole regional thing has to stop and maybe it is because I was born in Winnipeg, where I could stand downtown and see St. Boniface and feel the history of three Nations coming together to form my beautiful but bland city. A microcosim of Canada now celebrated at the Forks (no, I'm not on the Tourism Winnipeg payroll). My point is that we shouldn't put value on individuals because of where they come from, be it Ontario or Alberta but rather what they value and practice. Personally, I would place greater trust on someone that is guided by the morals that founded this Nation over the current trend of picking the best public speaker or who looks the part or who made more money in the cut throat corporate and legal world. Simply put, I have an adversion to the CEO and lawyer looking out for the interests of the Nation when they have spent carrers looking out for their own. I'm speaking in broad terms so please forgive me if Bill Gates happens upon this post. So you find in Ottawa a group of people that views the opposition as the enemy that needs to be destroyed, ridiculed and held at bay at any cost. Not in any particular order of course but the game plan exists none the less. Imagine that the voices of 100,000 tax paying people in your riding are viewed in this way, seems pretty stupid.
  23. Ya what the hell is going on Stronger in Ontario and Atlantic and weaker in the west for Conservatives?
  24. Again, thank you springer, sounds like Galahad can't stand the heat.
