Hello everyone, I'm new to this board.
Goldie replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Welcome, I also was very interested in politics at 16 in Manitoba. I collected the results of elections and poured over the numbers for hours. I became a conservative because Gary Filmon was very impressive for twelve years as Premier. So that was along time ago and just last night looking through some old information I discouvered that the NDP had run an ad in 1988 with a small child that asked his grandfather if he could vote for Ed broadbent too? I wondered if he now would. Funny how things are so similiar to the past battles. -

Reverend Being from Winnipeg I thank you for the perfect symbolism for the Liberal view of Canada. A 7 Million Dollar boondogle that links the English commerce Winnipeg to the French soul Winnipeg. As an after thought they install a crapper. This is better than a flag that doesn't fly. There are so many reasons to love Winnipeg and this isn't one of them. -

Cons accuse NDP/Lib of Child Pornography
Goldie replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Paul Martin Killed Homeless people via his policies This was supposed to hurt Layton, I don't think it did. Paul Martin supports child pornography as his record would seem to suggest This is supposed to hurt Harper, I don't think it will. At least it was retracted. Both have expressed passion about something they would like to see come to an end. Both went over the top in expressing their frustration at given government policy. It's cool you know they are human. How many Canadians have said worse things over the GST, et.all. If it is explained in this way Canadians will understand. -

First of all, it sure took along time to find a rag that said what you want to hear. Every poll I saw today said Harper won 37% to as high as 50% Ipsos to Global/vioxx or whatever. Second, this from someone with a PHD? I mean my 5 year old comes up with better zingers. -
what I find interesting is that almost as many people have turned to Duceppe as Jack Layon. Harper+9 Layton+4 Duceppe+2 Martin-4 Since May 25 link

In my view, despite the denial from media and alot of people on the post Harper scored big time on the numbers. "How can you say you know the numbers? where is the 100 million?" That says it all. It goes to Paul Martin's one perceived strong point, that he was a good finance minister. It takes away the phony 50 billion black hole charge. So the closest thing to a knock out punch was that kick in the nads.

So now it is all over and the country has stated Mr. Harper has won.

A weakness? I don't view it that way, simply because in the past we have had alot of charisma (Diefenbaker) but not a very good manager. Another, we have had a cerebral and charismatic that overstepped the bounds of good government. I think the time is good for an introvert cerebral to manage the affairs of Canada. I also think it is good for english Canada to have faith in a leader that is more like themselves to re-engage in politics. I'm sure Mr. Harper views Canada as most Canadians do, a great wealth not fully realized, a country that is distinquishable from the U.S yet bound by history and geography and commerce.

Bogus subliminal message is correct. What this does is reminds Canadians that a gun was fired at them in a Liberal ad. I can't imagine a better image to define this election. Black dog is correct, Conservatives don't need subliminal messages cause the message is so in your face. That was my point Dennis.

There is an interesting observation about the current Liberal attack ad. Do you think this was an intentional fear tactic or just part of information intended to wake up Canadians to the dangers of voting Conservative.

It is absolutely fine to disagree with American foreign policy. It is even better to question an act of war. I don't expect anyone to follow as blind faith any leader. Reagan was hated in Europe and Canada for his stance on foreign policy towards communism. What with the Evil empire and all. He took a stand and history is looking at him in a pretty fair light. All I'm saying is look at our policy and what do we hope to achieve in the world ? What are the Americans hoping to do?

Your confusing Free Votes with fascism and social conservatives with fundamentalists. Having religious views is not an ...ism. Some people would like to make it an extreme, but legislators in a free vote environment are hardly scary. The Liberals whipped to vote the party line at the whim of a PM is scary.

I work with senoirs and I had the occasion twice to meet men that were with the German Army 60 odd years ago. One would only eat corn flakes cause when the Americans captured him he thought this was great food and loved the Americans for how he was treated. Even 60 years hadn't jaded him to his captors. I won't write about how the Germans treated their prisoners because there is enough history written about it. (DO SOME RESEARCH) The other would talk about the British as if they were a chosen people. He hated to fight them, "But I had to follow orders". This he confided when he thought I was of German decent. Reading this anti-American, anti-Harper crap is beyond politics. You paint fellow Canadians with Christian or other religious beliefs as the "Devil we don't know". This is the scariest scenario i can imagine but sounds all too familiar. These people have more in common with Osama than Harper has with Hiltler.

Support for Tories and Harper Slides

Thats right being painted as a government and sliding right into power. -
This is always my favourite agrument. God forbid two nations that share the same land mass should have a similiar plan to deal with security. How terrible that the number one and number five nations on an enemies hit list should work together to defeat them. Some would like Canada to emulate China, France , Russia, you know, the losers of world history. Those who do should leave Canada because this nation does not deserve to shift to the likes of those countries.

WOW! Another gotcha by the CBC. I just love how they spice this up to make it sound like they have uncovered the hidden agenda. -
Where does YOUR local CPC candidate stand ?

Right. Nice way to avoid the Questions. -
I just watched CTV News and was amazed that the top storey was how PM has renewed vigour being back on the hustings. In a chinese restaurant with a fortune cookie that said " you will have much success", (what a moron) Second storey was Craig Chandler and Rick Borostic warning Canadians. Kinda like talking to John Bryden ('member him) and well you name it; Shiela Copps, John Manley, Herb Dahlliwa {sp}, PATHETIC! We already have state tv. Kinda makes me want to own a TV station.

Anyway, I have e-mailed the North Bay Nugget asking for the entire article. My hope is to slip it to Paul Wells or Andrew Coyne. Sometime after the debate.
