  1. I don't know what is more Kafkaesque about the OP. A failed attempt to point to a *pattern of abuse* consisting of 9 incidents over TWENTY ONE YEARS by the largest security organization in the country ... ---OR--- The use of the term kafkaesque in an example where it is so blatantly misapplied. PS great response Argus.
  2. From the Globe and Mail on Friday. Good opinion piece. Believe it or not Harper is making things better for Canada. Articles like this are symbolic of the shift in public opinion to recognize this.
  3. Guess you agree on how weak the analogies presented are. Harper is trying to keep our troops as secure as possible by providing them with the level of support the deserve. Critical to democracy? Hmmm, your attitude to anybody opposing your ideas is as undemocratic as it gets. Harper is acting in the best interest of our troops. Their job is to fight for our country when called upon to do so. They accept the risks. Continual attacks on their role undermines troop morale. Thankfully we have a PM who the troops know they can depend on to support them and provide them with proper equipment.
  4. As much as I hope you are right, I'm not sure if I agree. A lot of the swing Conservative-Liberal voters in Ontario might forgive Rae his trespasses. Quebec Federalists are naturally inclined to vote Liberal barring a really strong Conservative leader, i.e. Mulroney, or a really weak Liberal leader, i.e. Turner/Martin. For that reason alone I think Rae could only gain seats in Quebec...
  5. Why are the anaolgies presented always so weak and ill-conceived? Harper undermines the troops by not allowing Jack Layton to set the terms of the debate? *If* Layton becomes PM he can set the terms. As it is he is just embarrassing himself with his thoughtless pandering to his core constituency...
  6. That seem like a pretty involved system for a number of reasons. If I understand you, tax rates would change every year and you wouldn't know the rate you are paying until the end of the tax year?
  7. Was that first point really necessary? Do you honestly think the Taliban are monitoring Canadian domestic politics and specifically attacking Candian troops in an attempt to weaken the resolve here at home? We do have a moral obligation to stay, and probably will. The only way we leave is *IF* somebody other than Iggy wins the Libeeral leadership *and* the Liberals win the next election.
  8. Fair enough. Once a jurisdiction's net debt is retired there should be no reason to run surpluses. Are you listening Jim Dinning....
  9. Tax and spend is an accusation that is labelled at politicians that show aln alarming lack of concern for balancing budgets or having their government live within is means. For example, like Bob Rae running a budget deficit of close to $10 billion dollars for a provincial budget. Your obstinance in making this point is just obtuse....
  10. Continually attacking our mission in Afghanistan is far more despicable as it cheapens the memory of the victory of the 9/11 attacks and our valiant soldiers who have given their lives int hsi admirable cause.
  11. That is some funny and insightful stuff. You'd be surprised at the wingnuts working in political offices for *all* parties. It's pretty easy to be rude, belligerent and childish when hiding behing a computer screen.
  12. Do explain that analogy? The troops in general are firefighters but the troops in Afghanistan are criminals, i.e. firebugs, for participating in a mission?
  13. That's a false analogy for two reasons. 1. Dion was the Quebec lietuenant in the government at the time. So he should have known about a major effort *aimed* at keeping Quebec in Canada. 2. While the LPC was found to have improperly used over $1 million of taxpayer money in Adscam the government dropped its lawsuit against Mulroney and settled his counter-suit out of court.
  14. They committed to a longer term with the support of enough Liberals to pass a vote in the House of Commons and they have better equipped th troops.
  15. Hmm, I guess that means that Harper is doing a phenomenal job giving your unending criticisms of him....
  16. Supporting the troops is the right thing to do. The NDP have been attempting to take political advantage of it. shame on them...
  17. The fight against global terrorism needs to be fought. Were we not affected by the events of 9/11 even though no attacks took place on Canadian soil? Sure Afghanistan isn't an *easy* war. Most wars aren't. Canada should keep it's word.
  18. No attempt to defend King. Do you honestly think the misguided actions of a PM fifty years ago have an impact on policy choices today?
  19. Why would she step down? This is the best paying gig she has ever had, or ever will have, in her life. Treated like royalty. Not hard work. And guaranteed to get a sweet contract to write a book out of the deal when she is finished...
  20. Actually here are the rules.
  21. So you are admitting breaking the rules on cross-posting? Good for you Gerry.
  22. Those are all questions that need to be answered before we can judge their actions. *If* the records truly haven't been provided...
  23. You clearly don't understand the nature of accounting. Sure they would have kept copies of the receipts they gave out and the invioces for what they paid out. They wouldn't, and couldn't, do the reports real time. My guess would be that *all* political parties have asked for and received extensions on the 30 day time limit for the provision of reports.
  24. Hmm. What national profile did Jean have before appointed? Not much... Can't real say what Harper is doing is a failed attempt till after the election. Gerry do you have a job? Let me guess you are either paid by some anti-Harper group and/or angry at the world for being *underemployed* and blame it on the Conservatives. Let's turn this around. Have you ever considered that Harper has done anything good for Canada ever?
  25. Don't work for the CPC. Lying doesn't get you anywhere. If you really want to respond to the freeflow of ideas. Address my repsonse to your *can't increase his lead against the leaderless Liberals* comment. Or you could brush it off as you have done repeatedly....
