What? WWII ended over 60 years ago. Does the Maple Leaf still open doors? Are you really saying there were Mexican thieves who would turn up their nose at stealing from Canadians because the Canadian dollar was worth a lot less than the US dollar? Sounds like a very odd mindset indeed. Who was making this *recommendation*?
-
No the definition of scam would be stealing taxpayer money and giving it to party operatives. Any party.

I haven't seen any advertising on the Accountability Act. Do share. The only *choice* involved was the practical limitations of a minority Parliament and a Liberal majority in the Senate. Again what advertising? Again, practical limitations. So the FAA in its current form is worse than what the Liberals would have enacted? Oh wait, the Liberals promised nothing in the last election campaign and did nothing on ethics over 12 CONSECUTIVE years in office.

Good point. But for the likes of Saturn, and whatever his previous incarnation, there will never be anything good done by the Conservatives. The marginal quality of these attacks prove two points. How good a job the Conservatives are really doing and how marginalized the Harper-haters are becoming.
-
Still 30 more measures to clean-up Government than the Liberals ever implemented! Have you been here before Saturn? You seem vaguely familiar....

Harper's foreign and social policy vs. fiscal
Ricki Bobbi replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who is screaming? You still haven't substantiated your 60% higher costs in the US with any of your posts. -
I think wearing the maple leaf when you travel, is lame and immature. Here is a quote from an acquaintance as to why he wears the maple leaf when he travels. The dullness of his platitudes and self-delusion pretty much sum up why I DON'T where the maple leag when I travel. How is it so easy to remain deluded about our country's place in the world? For me, it seems like young, punk Canadians tend wot where the flag when they travel out of a sense of self-loathing and deep-seated jealousy for the Americans. Sort of like how every office or department in any way related to the Canadian government has to have Canada in the title.

Because only 4 people are known/suspected to be part of it - it could of course be more than 4 but that's how many the public is aware of. The size of their budget can be estimated by the amount of their spending - again it could be bigger than we know because we cannot track all their spending. It is difficult to know the facts about organizations that keep everything secret. You could have more simply responded to my questions by saying you don't know. Which you clearly don't. Hasn't this secretive organization connection come up in previous elections? Oh that's right. The claims were unfounded then and they still are now.
-
If it's such a secretive organization how do you know how many people it is made up of? And the size of their budget?

Interesting, yet slanted, view of the NCC's raison d'etre. Let's look at what they say about themselves. Nothing wrong with that....

A five year old letter written by Stephen Harper as a private citizen. Wow, you guys really are stretching to make an issue out of this one.

The $1.14 million in Adscam was taxpayer money that was proven in a judicial inquiry to have been illegally diverted to Liberal party operatives. An inquiry that cost $80 million in taxpayer dollars to hold. It was EIGHT YEARS between when the funds were diverted and the inquiry results were The CPC issue with Elections Canada involved $3 million of donations freely given by Canadian citizens to the CPC and how those donations were reported under the Elections Act. It was EIGHT MONTHS to resolve an issue that involved no misuse of public funds. You are clearly blinded by something, hatred for the CPC, blind devotion to some faction of the left, who knows? Am I correct in guessing you have never voted for the CPC and never will? The next election, as the last two were, will be decided by those open-minded swing voters who choose between the Conservatives and the Liberals. Try as you might, but this story will not resonate.

The Greens had similar social policy positions in the last election. Interesting how one of the articles you posted supporting your contention that *Progressives* will be leaving the Green Party in droves has the following quote in it. So the vast majority of the Canadian middle supports her stance on abortion but *Progressives* will be leaving the greens in droves as a result of that stance? Please explain the contradiction.
-
You believe this issue with Elections Canada is at the same *level* as Adscam? Is it difficult living in a world that is totally black and white?
-
Yes, you're absolutely correct, and the more vitriolic they are, the more we know they are trying to defend the indefensible. Hmm, sounds like you are approaching the issue with an open mind. C'mon Liberals fight the next election on corruption. Please! (I hope I wasn't being to vitriolic with that )
-
It was nine months not a year. The error has been corrected. You are making a mountain out of a molehill. Probably due to a number of factors. The Liberals realize how incredibly weak they still are on ethics. The Liberals have no policy to put forward. The Liberals just selected an ineffectual uncharismatic leader. But it isn't in the media anymore. Simply hard-headed partisans left to whine on message boards.

Will Stephen Harper serve longer than Paul Martin?
Ricki Bobbi replied to 1967100's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The only plausible scenario is for the Conservatives to squeak out a majority. Not likely, but here is how it could break down and where they would have to pick up seats. BC - 8 (the five they lost in 2006, plus pick up three. A slight swing of public opinion in their favour and this happens very easily. Of course they will lose Emeerson't seat, but it never really was their's.) SK - 1 (Jeremy Harrison takes back Desnethe Missinippi River.) ON - 7 (Yes they lose Garth's seat, but they pick up three in the Southwest, two in the 905, one in the North and Peter Kent breaks through in T.O.) Quebec - 8 If they can continue to present themselves as a credible Federalist alternative. (ex. Chicoutimi - Le Fjord, Andre Arthur's seat.) NS 1. NB -3. Would probably need Lord running to take a tough seat in Moncton. Plausible? Yes. Probably the only plausible scenario for any party to win a majority. NL - 2 PEI - 1. Is this a likely scenario? No. Is it plausible? Yes. -
Nobody *rational* is accusing the Conservatives of trying to change the law to help themselves in this case. Quite some time? Hmmm, this was the first Conservative convention under the new rules. So that means the law had been in place for less than a year. Still much ado about nothing.

Ricki Bobbi replied to 1967100's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is definitely Harper's last election. He might squeak out a minority but you are most likely right. Oh well, at least one more loss for the Liberals. -
People tend to move to the right politically as they age out of experience. As we are younger the allure of the left is undeniable. Everybody has the right to have their beliefs respected and as a high a quality of life as possible given the riches of our society. Then we slowly encounter increasing numbers of people who take more than they contribute to society. Yet they continue to argue that the hard-working contributing members of society should contribute more while having their traditions and values mocked and belittled. The harder we work as we age we just just want to be left alone. Free to pursue financial security for ourselves and only asking to be left alone. At that point Libertarianism becomes incresingly appealing.

Harper's foreign and social policy vs. fiscal
Ricki Bobbi replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
****** At least you aren't spreading anymore unsubstantiated *facts*. All in all this is probably your most insightful post of the night. -
Yeah, more unsubstantiated *facts*. Had a doctor in whatever unnamed province you come from actually infected 1,000 patients over a decade with Hep C it surely would have been news and the medical society definitely would have taken notice, or its members would be facing serious jail time. You seem to really lack an understanding of how many things work in the real world.

You do understand that your unsubstantiated facts don't really hold water. Like where do you get this 1/5 figure from? I thought you said earlier that it was 20%. Ignoramus? Isn't that a type of dinosaur?
