  1. I don't think he is by any means a party hack but I have no doubt he is a conservative and has been most of if not all of his life. I think he does a decent job of getting to the bottom of things and getting the story out. There have been a few times where I thought he was showing a bit of bias towards the CPC but by no means enough to say he is a hack, or even a promoter of the CPC.
  2. I seem to remember a two seat sideshow not to far in the past.
  3. I think you have it backwards. You elected a fiscally liberal, and socially conservative PM.
  4. Police associations have also spoken out in favour of the gun registry. How can you possibly determine that there have been zero homicides prevented? Can you say with absolute certainty that not one officer is alive today because the police took preventative measures after finding out the home they are going to had a closet full of guns? I am not about to start putting a price on the lives of our police force.
  5. I don't think it was an outright lie. I heard it explained once in detail and who knows it may have worked. The basic idea was companies looking to save money/increase profits do it by cutting their carbon emissions instead of looking for tax loopholes or laying people off. As Dion put it, corporations would be asking their engineers how they could save money instead of asking the tax lawyers and accountants.
  6. Funny I don't notice anymore money in my pocket.
  7. Just intolerant of different things. UNfortunatly some of the social views of the right are among them.
  8. And now for everyone of those mortgages that are defualted on we are responsible for the property upkeep and taxes. Not to mention we also take the hit on any loss in property value, which as we head into what could be a severe recesssion I see happening.
  9. Well people could have gotten to know him better if his freakin' Englais was a damn sight better. No insult to him he improved a fair bit since he was made leader, and I give him credit for that, but for god sake's, the man could not get his ideas across in English. Listening to the man in English is like being temporarily dyslexic. Half the crap coming out of his mouth is bass ackwards.
  10. The numbers on individual donors makes sense. I would think that the financial policies of the CPC, although I don't agree with many, I think would attract more people who would need to use a political donation for income tax purposes. On the other end of the spectrum the Liberals social policies would be more attractive to people who make less money. I do feel sorry for Dion. HE is the leader that never should have been. I hope the Liberals see that this is the result of negative politics during the Leadership campaign. Because of the hatred two factions had for each other they ended up with the third or fourth best choice in a pool already lacking depth. There really was no quality choice in that convention and taking the #3 or 4 guy is just stupid. I agree there is a definite need for the Libs to re-organize their fund raising. Now that the big business in Ontario and Quebec(Montreal) can't donate large sums of money they need to get out to the people. Since it takes money to buy TV ad time they will be at a disadvantage to the conservatives for years to come.
  11. Better re-try that one on a calculator.
  12. I laugh my ass off everytime the conservatives bring out the Evil Liberal Media bullspit. The majority of media outlets endorsed Harper, in two elections now! Dion was intentionally made to look like an idiot, by the CTV affiliate, but it is the Biased LIberal media that is the cause of all the CPC's problems. I don't buy it for a second. Just a bunch of paranoid clap-trap. You'll have to get another tinfoil hat people 'cause the current one ain't workin'.
  13. LOL Dude, Drinking and posting don't go well together.
  14. The Progressive Conservative party still exists. They ran a candidate in Newmarket-Aurora I believe. It is totally seperate from the Conservative Party of Canada. Reform merged with the Alliance Party not the PC party.
  15. True but the Liberals had the same advantage when the vote was split between the Reform and Alliance.
  16. Yes Yes Yes, although most political parties would be, and have done the same 3 things. Yes. A lack of an alternative was/is a big part of his popularity. Don't know about vote rigging. Any proof? The only possible election fraud was his in and out scheme during the last campaign, and I am not sure if that reallly qualifies as fraud or just a breach of the electoral law. I don't think we can blame the apathy of voters on Harper. Voter turn out has been dropping for decades.
  17. Let me guess. You just turned 18 and this is the first time you started paying attention to politics.
  18. Just like he supported a 6 month war in Iraq? Bottom line is he felt that having gun owners register their guns was a good idea. Which it is. The police use the database thousands of times a year. I believe jdobbin posted the actual number several months ago.
  19. But it is a reward nonetheless. If you believe that is all they offered. Here, have another glass of kool-aid.
  20. The only people saying the offer was to cover campaign expenses are the CPC. Cadman's wife said it was a $1 million life insurance policy. Which makes sense because Cadman knew he was close to death, and if the govt. had fallen and he died during an election campaign his family would not have recieved the benifits awarded to an MP. Covering his campaign expenses would be nothing. I see little difference between what the CPC did and what Chretien and the Libs did in Quebec.
  21. I guess they will have to buy some from the CPC. I hear they have cornered the market on the stuff. My condolences. How much longer do you have? The people in the East are Lemmings? Next you are going to ask why Easterners don't trust western politicians. Exactly! Why I remember things like Cadman, the in-and-out funding scheme, income trusts..... oops. Mixed them up again. I knew you were going to ask that. Alberta is doing awesome eh? Have you built housing for all those Oil workers yet? I am sure the Tim Hortons workers love their $16/hr, and their over inflated cost of living. I heard Calgary has the highest office space rent per sq ft in the country. The price of Oil is down over $60 a barrel. How much longer before it become unprofitable to keep working the oil sands? I also keep hearing that Sask. has the strongest economy in the country right now. Over inflated values (and egos) always crash the hardest. Ofourse the rest of the country will be here to bail Alberta out once again when times get tough in the west. We have already saved the cattle industry of AB twice in my lifetime. We kind of have to, the CPC has control of it all.
  22. Harper voted in favour of the gun registry.
  23. Most of what is said about Harper comes from his own rightwing speeches.
  24. The CPC was dead in Quebec and managed 12 (iirc) in 2006. If the Liberals EVER get 5 seats in Alberta they will HAVE to be popular enough to get a majority. As you pointed out, the Libs need a policy convention because the the only way to regwo the party is through solid policy.
  25. I would go Schneider. HE will be playing the entire Powerplay with Kovalchuk. Both NYI and ATL suck but Schneider, although he has injury issues, should put up more points.
