Does Canada Now Have a New (Haitian) Head of State?

Sure that is what I have been saying. Way to follow along. -

Sure but there is no reason why she needs to represent the Queen or be placed above the PM. We don't need the Queen or her representatives anymore. -

Sounds like that is something that could be done by an ambassador or some other beaurocrat. Sure that is nice but again it is something that could be done by someone else. -

Really though is there anything that the GG does that an independant body, like the Speaker of the House or the SCC, couldn't do? ( I know these are appointed positions but the positions come with a certain level of integrity and respect, that it should be expected that they can set aside political leanings and do what is best for the country) More often than not it seems that with the GG it is a just bunch of photo ops and trips across the globe that we foot the bill for. -

Man you really need to slow down and actually understand what is being said. Do you really think the Queen would ever tell Canada that a certain law is unacceptable? IT wouldn't happen. Just what power is the queen wielding to keep the PMO in check? What does the GG do that has any real effect on day to day operations of the country? There are a few instances, where the GG might actually DO something, like when the three parties tried to form a coalition. Why the hell should they even have to ask to do something like that? It is embarassing. Having to go and ask permission to do things that are already allowed. The point is the PMO wouldn't gain any power by losing the GG and the Queen as the figureheads to our country. -

And what has Harper done since being PM to lead you to think he will be spending less? -

I am sure those who have been victims of human trafficking would disagree with that statement. -

Having the Queen and the GG is bloody stupid. Canada is a sovereign nation and the top of the ladder should stop at the PM. -

Too many criminals getting into this country. We need a better system not an expansion of the current useless one. -

Seems fishy. I would like to hear the reasoning behind the decision to make changes. -

When you add up the money spent fighting Prostitution and Marijuana, and the money lost by not taxing Prostitution and Marijuana I think that on a purely fiscal basis they should be legalized. One point for the legalization of Prostitution is the safety of the women involved. I think it is a valid point. Women are exploited and in some cases kidnapped and forced to work. They get hooked on drugs, beaten and generally abused by their pimps. Then there is the danger from clients who every once in a while can be a sicko pig farmer who kills them and feeds them to his pigs. I would take a good look at Amsterdam and how well their Redlight District is working. See if it is something to try here. If not that idea then atleast some regulation to make sure that active Prostitutes are tested for STD's, and have a safe place to ply their trade. -
Can't change the rules??? LMAO Harper himself just changed some rules by bringing the fixed election dates which he then conveniently ignored when he called the last election. All they would have to do is run a couple of candidates in NL, or ON and then it would be ok. Atleast it forces them to spend money outside of Quebec. Change is a part of life. Sorry MC but the 50's are long gone. The women have been set free and minorities have equal rights.

So I guess you are all for supporting welfare moms who pop out kids instead of finding jobs? Sure make every pregnant woman go to term and have the kid and then we can start sending them their cheques. Nothing like a good 14yr old having a kid and ruining her life. Why let's outlaw birth control all together. IT would be a bloody utopia. It must be a wonderful life for those who are reminded of the night they were raped everytime they look at their child. Makes me jealous.

The strategy is easy - Make him look more like the regular guy who likes the Beattles and jams with his "friends". It worked well for Clinton, why not try it. Another good tactic by the CPC. You have to give the PR guys credit. THey have over the last few years done a great job in promoting the party, Harper and the CPC platform.

Tories Survive No-Confidence Motion
Who's Doing What? replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The liberals need to be seen as not propping up the Govt. while not being held responsible for an election. One heck of a tightrope to walk but, as the NDP will soon find out, propping up the CPC is not popular. THe Liberals need to keep reminding the public of fixed election dates and how the CPC should be comprimising with the other parties for support, instead of playing bully and having a "my way or the highway" attitude. Make sure the message gts out that it is the CPC who are ultimately responsible for the success or failure of this govt. Paint the NDP and Bloc as the puppets who prop up the Harper regime. They need to attack on all fronts. With the right PR campaign they could effectivly direct the course of this govt for it's remaining term. -

This is going to be a balancing act for the LIberals. Good idea to get away from the NDP bashing point of being the ones to prop up the Harper Govt., but the real trick lies in not actually causing an early election, which would give fodder to the CPC media machine. -

Reminds me of an old joke. Why does Canada not have to worry about terrorist attacks? Because this is where the terrorists send their families to be safe. -
