Who's Doing What?

Well right now police are using old registries to find guns that are not up to date in their paperwork. These are guns that, have either been passed down as an inheritance, or as part of an estate, or for some other reason are just sitting in the house forgotten. They have already collected over 400 guns. Now these are 400+ guns that cannot be stolen by theives, or sold by say a teenager or other family member with a drug/gambling habit, and used for crime. Not much of a stretch to imagine little Johnny selling his Grandpa's Colt .45, which has been sitting in a box in the attic/basement for 5 years, to his dealer for a bag of drugs. Stuff like that happens all the time.

I think they should take a page out of the CPC playbook and make a single platform/policy statement every other day during the election campaign, so that they are always in the news and getting free air time. I thought this was very effective strategy by the CPC. THere is no need to lay out a plan and give the other parties months to comb through it and disect every little detail.

I argued this when the CPC planned to cut the GST. The best thing that could happen is that there is zero income tax and a large GST/HST. Give me all my money and I will decide what I want to do with it. IF I want to buy taxable items then I will pay the tax. If I want to save my money then I have the choice to do that aswell. Dinging me a few hundred bucks every paycheque is just bullspit. Imagine the money the Govt. could save if it got rid of the income tax part of Revenue Canada.

YA, I don't like that idea. Why should I, who have no children, nor plans for any, have to pay taxes to support Mary Jane and Billy Bob's gaggle of 8 kids? People get free money and tax breaks for having kids. This is absurd since these kids are going to be using the systems that we are paying our taxes into. Shouldn't these families be paying more taxes to help offset the future cost their brood is going to be needing as they suckle at the teat of govt. services? We've got young women who don't want to work getting knocked up so they can get a cheque in the mail every month. Don't tell me it doesn't happen because I can take a 5 minute walk and find 20-30 situations just like this. The area is locally known as "welfare square". Did you know your taxes are going to be buying my friends kid a new pickup truck when he is 16? Got to love the CPC's childcare cheques that come every month.

Whoa, isn't this along the lines of the CPC's total failure of a childcare plan? Tax breaks for providing daycare, has generated, oh about zero daycare spaces. As an aside, if the govt. is going to give tax breaks to big business to provide daycare spaces, isn't that basically the same as funding them in the sense that the Govt. will be getting less revenue due to the tax breaks? Either way cost's the Govt. money. But now you think it is a good idea for govt. to run daycares? Was that a fish or did you just flip-flop?

Man you are missing so much of the big picture. IT was a safe haven for terrorist organizations. Is it still that? NO. Clue in man the base of operations has been disrupted and the hunt is on for the terrorists and their Taliban providers. They can no longer relax and smoke their hooka's and plan what Western building or infrastructure to blow up next.

How is it only the Liberals who will force an election when the Govt. can be propped up by the "socialists" of the NDP and the "seperatists" of the BQ? Harper will be the one to force an election by trying to pass some rediculous motion that he knows damn well that neither the NDP or the BQ could ever support. Ofcourse the CPC will spin it as the other parties not trying to make parliament work but let's be honest here. If Harper wants to avoid an election all he has to do is tone down any bill's he brings forth and throw the NDP and BQ a bone. Unless Harper goes way off the path I doubt there will be an election since the NDP can't afford one right now, and will take any excuse to keep the current Govt. going.

So you would rather have Afghanistan as a country where terrorists are given safe haven and trained, while terrorist plots are planned out?

Quack quack quack. lmao What is wrong with the disclosure of the fact that the Cdn Military spends X numbers of dollars on equipment, or payroll? Just how the heck is that some big secret? What benifit does that provide to the taliban?

I don't see why the overall cost of the mission can't be made public. The breakdown of expenses beyond general areas like "New Equipment" or "Payroll" should be kept secret.

Well appearances can be deceiving. How do you know OBL is not in Afghanistan any more? With your knowledge you really should be working for the army intel corps. I guess you are having a hard time understanding that while the Taliban pose no direct threat to the West, they are more than willing to provide safe haven for those who are the real threat.

So, a terrorist can "help" our cause in Afghanistan by "turning in" a few Taliban that he really doesn't care about, and then get fast tracked into our country to lie in wait as part of a sleeper cell? I don't like this one bit.

Well I'm not the one blindly swallowing everything that is handed to me in the name of the military. I am able to look at things objectively. Can you? I am not so sure.

If you think it is about the Taliban invading us then you are not only the gullible one but sadly misinformed as well. It isn't about the Taliban invading us as much as it is about the fact that the Taliban was openly allowing Bin Laden et al free reign to train terrorists and plan terrorists attacks in Afghanistan. The lack of large scale attacks since the invasion shows that the mission has succeeded in disrupting what was the terrorist home base of operations.

Interesting.... The difference is easy. But I can already tell it would be like trying to talk reality and science with a religous zealot. Actually their true mission is to do what they are doing. I actually support the Afghan mission and have stated so many times on these boards. I just happen to be able to distinguish between Govt. Policy and a person putting their life on the line so I can sit at my cpu and argue politics with a bunch of strangers.

Well here in Ontario his impaired driving charge would likely be the more serious of the two. Even then he would either walk on a technicality or get a fine and suspension as a 1st timer. Which charge do the judges in the Wild West view as more serious?

Ofcourse there is no point in even trying to explain to you how the two can be seperate. It is the blanket "all or nothing" attitude that seems prevelant with the CPC.

So, now the Cons are the ones running around yelling "scary, scary, scary." What say you now CPC supporters? You who have ridiculed the LPC for the same damn thing. Oh right. Silly me I forgot the #2 rule in the CPC hand book. "B-b-b-but the Liberals..." If the Liberals did something then it is perfectly ok for the CPC to do the same regardless of how much they screamed and frothed at the mouth about it when the Libs were doing it. Heck it started with Emerson and hasn't stopped since. Where is the integrity we were promised?
