Funny. I saw parts of the same show and didn't get that impression at all. It would seem when you watch something with the ingrained bias that whatever a certain network is showing you is propaganda you get a distorted view of what actually is being broadcast.
-
Actually it should be "You are just as bad." But we're splitting hairs here. Why shouldn't they be saying it though? The CPC's biggest defense of anything unethical, wasteful or just plain stupid is "B-b-b-but we're not as bad as theLiberals." A Statement which is fast becoming BS.

Still it isn't as funny as the Harper worshippers falling over themselves to defend their hapless leader, no matter what he does. -

And they should be held to a higher standard. Higher standards is what they ran their campaign on. Integrity ring a bell? It should. It was plastered on their campaign banners. -

She has been called a "whore", referred to as a "dog" and generally been raked over the coals ad nauseum. So why the hell would she want to stay? The reasons for leaving are only compounded by the fact she has a job that pays way more money waiting for her to step into. I wouldn't hesitate for a second in her position. See ya. -

Only one hundred million dollars? Still "not as bad as the Liberals" -
The tactic is simple yet pathetic. Ignore the message and attack the messenger. It doesn't matter if your opponent brings up a valid point that you should either address or be down right ashamed of. Simply smear him/her and their political party with any dirt that can be dug up. They will be either flustered and angry or trying so hard to explain themselves that their original VALID point will be lost. A perfect example is the boxes of documents which included faxes that seem to indicate some bad behaviour of a certain politician in arranging a riding to call his own. The MESSAGE of the wrong doing was soon shouted down by calling the MESSENGER, the finder of the boxes, a THIEF. They ignored the implications of their own wrong doing and ATTACKED the person who brought it to light. Truly a sad indicator of how pathetic our political climate has become. So remember kids it doesn't matter what the person says. If you can assassinate their character the validity of their oppinions will be lost.

No Harper ran his campaign on integrity, ethics, accountability, and transparancy of Govt. What a frigging JOKE that turned out to be. BTW Nice thread Ricki, kind of shows... ... you could. Way to go! -
Straw man, we'll deal with it if it happens. Fortunately, it won't. I feel no more threatened by a foreigner that wants to make money in Canada than a Canadian that does. The off chance that bin Laden sees a favourable return from BCE is a chance I'm willing to take. It is not a straw man. I can see where you are confused with Al Qeada ownership. You are thinking like a capitalist. If Bin Laden wanted to earn a profit as a minority investor then I wouldn't care,(other than I would not like to see him supporting Al Qeada with money made from a Canadian Company). Unfortunately they would not be buying to invest. Al Qeada wants to bankrupt the West. Gaining control and shutting down or disrupting our communications would go a long way towards that goal. It doesn't even have to be Al Qeada. Or any terrorist organization to purchase our communications network for this to be a very bad idea. Say Chinese (or any other for that matter) nationalists bought the company and are forced by their govt to use our communications to spy on us. They use software to record key strokes of MP's, Cabinet Ministers, CEO's and other high ranking employees in any sector they wish to spy on. Don't say they couldn't, because as owners they would have the means to do so. I don't care if foreign investors want to buy up shares of BCE, but I sure as hell don't want them to be able to own 51% and decide the fate of the company. The point is if you open up our communications to be majority owned and controlled by foreign nationals and possibly through them foreign Govt.s you are creating a disaster. It ceases to become an issue of "if" the network will be disrupted and becomes and question of "when". Sooner or later it will fall into the hands of someone or some nation who supports those out to destroy our way of life.

Link ABOUT FREAKING TIME!!!!

You are being willfully ignorant to the fact that while some Canadian shareholders may or may not have terrorist ties they are far from being the decision makers of terroist organizations as well as policy makers for our communications network. I can't fathom why you would want to allow Al Qaeda or some other group an opportunity to gain control over our communications. By allowing 100% foreign ownership that is exactly the opportunity you are giving them. Once they are in charge they appoint their own people to key positions of importance and wait to strike.
-
That's why we prevent states from owning communications or resource companies in Canada. There is no harm in limiting state participation in our markets, while allowing foreign individual and group investors full access. Correct me if I am wrong but is not Bin Laden an individual? I would not feel comfortable with him as the largest shareholder and therefore policy maker for our communications network. Individual or State does not really matter when it comes to terrorists. But a state like Iran, which has the revenue needed, could just set up a dummy company to purchase the network and disrupt it at their whim. It could just as likely be the same group that funds Al Qaeda could instead buy the network. Allowing total foreign ownership is just a bad idea.
-
You need to read my original post. I am not talking about a US conglomerate buying the company now. I am talking about opening the door to the possibility of a terrorist state buying up the communucations companies down the road.
-
Well your fears are unfounded. The Telecommunications act is very tight and telecommunications companies have to have secure, redundant networks to ensure basic communications for the military and government. It's the #1 priority. Bell is not th eonly company that has to do this, they all do. Your fears are completely unfounded and are based on ignorance. Let me guess. You also supported the idea of the US selling it's ports to a country that has supported terrorists, or has terrorist supporters in it. It doesn't matter what redundancies there are in place. If they are under the control of someone who wants them shut down or disrupt them, they will have the means to do so. Your blind faith is completely unfounded and based on ignorance.

Well either the CPC are lacking diligence in cleaning up and making sure they have everything in order or the movers should be never hired again. Someone was an idiot for those boxes to be left behind. I don't buy the idea they were stolen. As for opening them, I wouldn't expect any less from the CPC or the NDP or any other politician. Reminds me of how the CPC seemed to know everything theLiberals were going to announce during the election campaign a day before the liberals had scheduled a press conference. Just more dirty politics. Neither party is any different, as I have been saying for months.
-
Yes I just love the thought of potential extremists and enemies to our way of life having a chance to control our communications network. I know they think it will be a US led bid to take over Bell, for now. Who knows 10 maybe 20 or 30 years from now who will be in a position to buy it. Wouldn't Al Qaeda just love it if one of their ally states used a foreign company to buy and control all of our communications. That sure would help them bankrupt the West wouldn't it? Shutting down phone, fax, and internet services to cause havok to business and the overall economy. What a comforting thought.

IS Harper setting the Libs for an election?
Who's Doing What? replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree that Garth becoming a Liberal was a horrible thing. I agree that Mark Holland shouldn't have taken documents out of a box marked to be moved to the PMO in contravention of the Parliament of Canada Act. I agree that the 63 current Liberal members of the Senate shouldn't have been appointed. I agree that the Income Tax and Non-renewable resource decisions had to be made in the best interest of the country. LMFAO Here it is again folks. The old " B-b-b-b-b-but the Liberals did it." lame excuse the CPC uses everytime they're caught doing something they shouldn't be or or their own errors are brought up. Gets funnier and lamer everytime they use it. Harper truly can do no wrong in your eyes can he? -
So is 320-3 the official designation of the PMO? Because that is what I saw for a destination on the you-tube vid. I would think that for the box to be considered "clearly marked for the PMO" it would have said "Office of the Prime Minister", on it, or at the very least "Conservative Party of Canada." I saw neither in the vid.

Just how does it undercut advertising prices? The prices are the same for everybody depending on the population reached, the popularity of the show, the time of the program and so forth. The fact that the initial cost of CBC programs is paid for by the Govt doesn't mean they charge less per commercial. They may not get offered as much to run commercials due to lack of viewership but they undercut nothing. This is a total misconception you have going on here. Actually if you had been following this you would know that TSN was fully expected to outbid CBC for the TV deal precisely because they were private sector and the CBC has to account to the Govt. and it's ever shrinking budget likely wouldn't allow them to match what was widely believed was going to be TSN's 1.4 billion dollar offer for a ten year deal. I had a link to a G&M article but now the damn thing needs a subcription to read it all. Oh well here it is if you do have a script and want to read it. Link I was surprised to see they got the deal. I haven't heard an offical dollar amount yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the NHL took slightly less money for the sake of what they feel is tradition. I remeber when MOLSON Hockey Night in Canada was the Tradition, didn't seem to hurt switching to LABBATTS.
