Only some people's "moments" never seem to end. -
I am paying $1.20/L here in the GTA. I don't really care. So it costs me $20 more for 100L of gas than it did a few months ago. Might cost an additional $1000 a year if I do alot of driving. Still not enough for me change my lifestyle all that much. Less take out Chinese and pizza but otherwise things are pretty much the same. What worries me is the fallout from switching to ethanol. This is going to cripple us if we continue. We feed our Beef, Chicken and Pork corn/grain. So when the price of the food increases so will the product. If people are starving now, what is going to happen when grocery bills double or triple. Add into that the price of delivery is skyrocketing due to fuel costs and we are headed for economic disaster. Hybrids are definitly a saving grace but if the US govt. continues to mandate ethanol production, North America is screwed.

And if you added in a property tax, and a percentage of the Provincial Sales Tax, that each individual would have paid, and a percentage of the percentage of Federal Taxes that would have been transfered to the Provinces to be transferred to municipalities. I don't know if you charge property tax on a res, but somehow I doubt it. A VERY, I mean ultra, conservative estimate on my municipality's property tax alone would mean $1500 per person. But even if is only $500 per person that goes along way improving the community. But at anyrate the bottom line is that money-wise, Natives may recieve less but they contribute NOTHING. Change accountants. NO!The taxes those people pay are used to keep their communtiy decent, our Govt. functioning, etc.. Only a small portion, equal to any other Canadian's, would go to the reserve. What backwards thinking, that if all the taxes paid by off-res Natives, 100% of it were go to support Res natives and none to go to keeping their community and there jobs and everything else they enjoy being part of our society, it would be enough to change the quality of life for res natives?!?! You keep saying this and none of us really care. I would like to actually see the math that proves that. Plus the documentation of the original agreement, plus when the Canadian Govt. starting sending the SN money and how much they have sent. And I bet if someone else were to do the math they would find that alot more money is actually being made available to natives. You know like through the cost of education, healthcare, and bursuries for busnesses and post-seconadary education. There is a lot more money set aside per-capita to give a native a free education than there is for any non-native. So your healthcare is pretty much in the same boat as everyone elses. Sounds like they are taking full advantage of what healthcare they do recieve, what with the highest percentage of illness. OR maybe on the res they have so much time on their hands they can just make it more often. SO because they choose not to work, and have no money, we are to feel sorry for them when we would face the same penalty if we did not pay our own fines? They are underfunded simply because the demand is rediculous. IF the natives can start taking care of their children and provide a decent living environment then the demand would decrease and current funding would be adequate. Ya it is a lot easier to get things like loans and mortgages WHEN YOU HAVE A JOB! I bet if I were native and I wanted to start a company, if I had a well thought out business plan I could get money out of the Govt. in less than 90 days. Heck there is money there for ANYONE if they have their sh!t together. Sounds like if they became part of society most of their problems would disappear. -

MAybe if mom and dad could provide decent living conditions for a child then their children wouldn't have to be taken away and raised by the state. This is no different than anywhere else in the country but it seems to happen with much more frequency among natives. Perhaps some parenting and birth control classes would benifit them better than another handout. -
So after just slightly over a year has passed.... Economic Left/Right: -0.50 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.87 What can I say. Centrist to the end I guess. It would be nice to see a party that encompassed ALL of my views instead of having to choose between such opposing sides.

Typical schoolyard bully behaviour imo. After the threats and intimidation stop working they try get people to feel sorry for them by pointing out how everyone is against them and that they have no friends. -

That is such BS!!!!! I don't see the children of holocaust survivors throwing their children out in the snow with only a tee shirt and underwear. -
I doubt it will affect too many people immediately. They seem to be taking the "wait and see" approach with the Tories. They seem to be willing to give the tories a larger benifit of the doubt then they gave the Liberals who had been in power for over a decade, and had numerous things occur over the years. After all this was the party that promised "Integrity, accountability....."

I think there was too many of the old guard either behind the scenes or pulling the strings to really say the current CPC was a "new" party. Sure there were new faces. Just a new layer of stain put on over the same tired old fence boards.

And such is the sad state of Canadian Politics. lol

I just had to check in to see how this one would be spun. Nice work. Adscam = public money, very bad CPC election spending cheating = private money, so it is not bad. -

See you don't get it. They have been getting this for free when others have been paying for the right to fish and hunt. To me that is racist - People given special treatment/rights based soley on their race. At anyrate they should not be so quick to forget that if they had been forced to pay it would have collectively cost them millions. So let's leave that little tidbit in there when we are figuring out exactly what is "owed" to Natives. Again you don't get it. Billions a year spent to deal with Native issues and provide for natives and yet you just think it is meaningless. This one is far from laughable. They were allowed to open casinos because they had special status and rights as natives. No special treatment, no casinos. Plain and simple. I am talking about the land value of lands that were given to the natives instead of having them assimilate into our society. Prime vacation land worth tens of millions is within 20min of me. Actually income tax was started in WWI, not WWII. So we can add another 20 years of taxes to the calculation. Add in late fees, penalties and interest and I think your calculation of what is "owed" takes a huge hit. Ya but for some strange reason natives don't want to stop sucking billions of dollars a year out of the federal budget, do they? OK I am going to be perfectly blunt with you. YOU LOST! When the country was up for grabs, YOU LOST. You are a defeated people who are damn lucky to have been treated as well as you have been. The simple fact natives weren't totally exterminated after colonization is something you forget to be thankful for. Now even as we pump billions a year into trying to make your lives even easier and give you additional rights that other Canadians don't get you still cry for more. I used to really sympathize. Now I couldn't care less.
