  1. The same can be said for many of the things that go on here. But we learn to try and do better. The fact that the word dog was not uttered from Mackay's mouth, does on the surface say some things. It is only when implied around the context is it made clearer. The liberal who used this to taunt Mackay, is he to be without shame? It would be best for all if they just walked away, but that is unlikely as those involved want to play politics with the issue. Shame on both sides for that.
  2. This is sooo stupid. For one thing your health insurance is not something that expires and gets renewed. It is for life and that was the way we agreed to long ago. Car insurance has nothing incommon with healthcare. We do not do risk assesment for healthcare because it would be saying you are not fit enough to live so we condemn you to a slow painful death. We do not even treat murders that way. The healtier you are the more likely you will live to an old age and as all you young people out there you will find that no matter your health, once you age you will be seeing a lot of doctors. The unhealthy people see doctors earlier and die sooner. They probably in the grand scheme of things cost us less. So before you go spout all the youthful crys against those who are less healthy, you need to learn some thing that old age shows you, and that is no matter the health you are in now, once above 50 and older you will see the doctors more often then most others, who are younger.
  3. The old dog comment was actually made byt he liberal taunting him, and Mackays answer was said that they should ask her motioning to Stroachs empty chair, saying you have her now. I will not say it was a good thing to do, but I would have to give him a pass on it as he really has been a gentlemen about it all up till now. If he persisted then I would have to come down on him for that.
  4. Ahh but you forget that all the doom and gloom the environmentalists claim is not for another 100 years, so a 43 year plan sounds pretty good is you ask me.
  5. Do you want to bet that there will be major position changes on this. If they do not get this past, then you just wait for Harper to pull the plug on parliament and force an election, that will win him his majority. So believe me this will pass if only because the other parties would not want an election over an issue such as this, and also because they are not ready for it to be a wedge issue.
  6. I would be all for making all the senator go over to Afghanistan and talk to the Nato commanders and let them ask all the questions they like. I also will let the address the Afghanistan government. Them I would put them all in the Canadian government transport and fly them deep into Taliban south and give them all an AK47 weapons and lots of ammo. Then they can ask the Taliban all the questions they like as well. After that we will be able to hold ellections for the senate positions, as few of these others would ever make it back here. But that is a dream I know will not happen, but.....
  7. How dumb can the Canadian voters be? I like to think that for the most part they are very intelligent, and with that in mind I do not think that most people will be taken in by the opposition tactics of denouncing this bill. Sure the targets are well into future and any thinking person will realize that is exactly where these have to be. Since the environmentalists arguments are all 100 years in the future, then target goals in 15 to 40 years are very much inline and alos realistically achievable. This is a long term plan for a long term problem. I would have also liked to see a few more short term items, but these would be better achieved thru provincial actions as they are more localized in nature. This bill will get the backing of more then enough MP's to get past any opposition. I would even think the Bloq would support it as it leaves the provinces room to manouver with much of the local issues. All told I think that this will take wings and fly. It is not perfect, but it is a much better solution then Kyoto ever was.
  8. I wish I could say I look back fondly at those days, but because of the very huge contempt I still hold for them, I can not ever forgive them. Since in elections it is usually the older voters who do most of the voting, it will be those who remember Rae for what he did, that will get to take him to task for the damage that was all due to him from years gone by. By the time an election would be called Rae will have had all this and much more dragged up and then even the younger voters who do not remember his damage, will at least be made very aware of what a vote for him can do. As I said before Rae is the one leadership hopeful that will allow the CPC to break into the sat rich area in and around Toronto. Just with that area alone there would be more then enough to give the CPC a majority government. I would equate this to trying to have Chretien run for the leadership again in the next decade. It just seems to be stupid, but I being against the liberal, would enjoy it to happen.
  9. If you all take time to look back you will see that the Nato commander did say that the 1000 Polish troops were going to go to the front and they were making deals with some of the other countries to also go to the front as the Canadian troops were due to be rotated in Febuary. I alos believe there was a push for Germany to lift its caviots on their troops and the same with France, but I did not hera more on that. The USA and British Troops have already been to the Front and I am not sure if they have replaced the soldiers in their troops yet so as to make it so the soldiers do not do two rotations in the front. This is just how these things work.
  10. No one is saying that Canadian troops will be on the battlefront for two years. Nato has already said that the Canadian trops are due to be rotated out of the front by Febuary. That is why the 1000 Polish troops will be in afghanistan by Jan next year, and also why they having been pushing other countries for more troops. The German and the french are considering allowing their troops to be used there as well.
  11. Let my recap a few things from previous posts: - This program doesn not pay for Internet in individuals' homes. This is a community-based Internet with regulations on how it can or can't be used. - This program (CAP) is available across all of Canada, so it's not just in Newfoundland and Labrador but also in Alberta, BC and Ontario - Read my last post about the fishermen I wonder if your satellite setup is claimed on your income tax as a business expense or if the company your wife works for pays for most of the cost? What would your feelings be if the govt. told you that you could no longer claim that as a business expense or if the company said that if your wife wants to work from home then she (and yourself) would have to pay for 100% of the cost. And in regard to your desire for a massive urban utopia; without people working in rural areas, how would the manufacturing sector survive with the raw resources from rural areas? Boy are you wrong on that one. No it is not paid for by the wife's work and no we do not claim it on our income tax. I do get a discount on it because my brother is the dealer of these and he has me on a special purchase. BTW he told me last weekend the cost of equipment is now down to $349.00. So tell these people to forgo a bottle of liquor per month and they can have their internet, but I am 100% against the government paying a penny towards this issue. I have sympatico dial up for me and the sat costs me $60 per month, so between the two that is $84.95 per month. We pay that and do not get help from the government. If I could not afford it I would have to do without now wouldn't I. Man you just do not get it. Nobdy owes you anything. You owe the country of Canada for all the infastructure and all the toys you have. There never seems to be a shortage of skidoos up in Labrador, and I see lots of trucks and motorcycles there as well. Either you live by your old ways, which do not include internet, or you come down to the cities and get a job.
  12. There is no dire things going to happen any time soon. Even the doom and gloom crowd say that they are projecting 100 year in advance, so please, do not get so hoity toity about what may happen inthe next 4 years. I posted earlier that the worlds oceans have cooled by several degrees and they are what affects the climate, and even Suzuki can not expalin this as it flys in the very face of all the models that predict 100 year from now. So without totoaly saying there is no reason to react, I feel that a measured responce is a good one. There are targets in place but if we again see the further cooling of the oceans, then what should we make of that.Because then it will not be global warming but rather the pollution is bad for our health, which I readily agree with. But with all this extra greenhouse gases and we get cooling, I would say that we need a new model, don't you? It maybe be because the ocean currents have chnged some and are not spreading the warm tropical currents as far north and that may explain the wintery cold that Europe felt last year. If this is something that may be happening then will it address warming across the globe as it is thought? The trouble is that no one knows exactly how to explain some events that fly in the face of what others have claims. The world needs to stop pollution because it is bad for our health and kills people in the here and now. I think we need to address that long before anything a century off.
  13. This is stupid and is getting dumber by the day. I live in Ont. I can not get high speed at my home because I am rural, so I have the satellite setup so my wifes can work from home half the time and I also keep sympatico dial up for my own use as I am on a disability pension there is no real need to get my downloads instantly . I pay for this myself. If the people in Labradour want internet let them pay for it themselves. I do not care about their isolation and I do not want to even hear about how they are owed anything. It is 100% BS and needs to be stopped. They wanted to live there so they could keep their old ways, so let them do exacyly that. Not one penny for them is what I say, and no I am not from Alberta. But I am sure able to see wated money on no good causes. Those who defend giving into these people are IDIOTS, to say the least, and if it were up to me. I would have a one time referendum that would ask if we should leave these people to their old ways or should we force them into our towns. If they do not come into areas work they can perfom work then we cut them off completely. No more warm and fuzzies for them.

  15. Simple chemistry the hotter water gets the more it can take into suspension. Take a hot cup of coffee and add sugar untill it can no longer dislove any more. Then pour the liquid into a clean clear container. As the coffee cools it will precipitate more sugar out of solution. Heat is almost always the method used to super saturate liquids. The ice falling into the Oceans do not affect its temperature the way you said. The Oceans are the worlds biggest energy storage that there is. Cooling oceans must be done with huge temperature drops. The Global warming scientists are finding it very hard to expalin why the oceans have cooled and they know it would have to be some colossal event if it was not a natural phenomena. If you look at the article even when they try and remove certain criteria that they are unsure of, the temperatur is still cooler. So they will now have to adjust their thinking in just what is driving the heating and cooling events.
  16. There worlds oceans have coled from 2003 to 2005 and this now is just making all the global warming people go nuts trying to explain this, because it flys in the very face of their arguments http://www.globalwarming.org/ Maybe they can expalin that coller oceans means warmer air? Sounds to be very wrong to me.
  17. This is just such a silly thread. People do not sem to understand that it is not Harper or even O'Connor that are responsible for the troops in Afghanistan, but rather it is because of our commitment to NATO that we are there. We are not there representing ourselves as being Canadian and on our own. We are part of a team of Nato based troops. It is nato that sets the goals and the operations etc, and when Nato says that the Canadian have finished their battlefront rotation then we will again be rotated to other less risky operations. The way soem people yap and gripe you would think that it was Harper giving the orders himself. The only thing he did was extand the dates of the mission and allow for Canada to do full scale rotations in the efforts. This meant, that the troops would be used in the same way as the British and USA as wi=ell as the Dutch and many others. Now just how is that so bad? Maybe if people wpould learn just exactly what it is like when we are called upon by Nato and just what our commitments to these calls are, then maybe we would not see all these stupid banter about how it is the fault of the present goverment, even though it was not them who sent the troop over there in the first place, and nothing has changed in the types of action they were to see. The only thing to change is the date of which we have committed our troop to remain there for, and that has always been the way these things have always been done. Here at home we keep saying Canadian troops and Canadian missions when it is really Nato troops and Nato missions. Maybe it is time to get this straight, before more go off down the wrong path. The majority of the land which is Afghanistan is being ruled and secure by the Afghani security forces and with the help of Nato troops. Yes we still have action in the south and that is where Canadian troops have been rotated to and will be rotated out of by this Febuary. It daoes not mean they will be out of Afghanistan but rather may be used in the north where they can do reconstruction and peace keeping roles once again. By the time they will once again be needed to be battlefront, the soldiers that were there now will have been returned home and new soldiers will have been sent to Afghanistan. This point was made clear many times by O'Connor inthe past and once again today in the newspapers. So the reason Harper has our troops in Afghanistan is because we are required by the Nato treaty we signed long ago to supply and sent troops whn needed for Nato missions. That is why they are there and also why they will still be there as it will be Nato who says when the missions are over. If we dropped out of Nato we would have to then build our military to at least 10 times what it is now just to defend ourselves with the same abilities. So it would just be palin stupid to do such a thing.
  18. [btw.....it is *some friends and I*, not *me and some friends*........jeez, learn to speak english before you start slandering real Canadians....... The idea of language is to allow communications between people. Did you understand what was meant, even though it was gramarically correct? This is just a site where communication of ideas is the higher mission.
  19. That is a silly question. Everyone avoids or evades as many taxes that are allowed by law. Now there are also many who see the laws as much broader then they are, but also the Revenue Canada auitors also see the narrowest view of the laws and then even break the law to go after people. Revenue Canada loses 95% of the cases that go to court and many of the rest who can not afford to fight them anymore just declare bankruptcy. So I have to say it is a draw here as to who are the criminals in that arguement. I applaud any government that magages to lower spending, and increase efficiency of goevernment, pay down debt and cut taxes all at the same time. It is then and only then that I can start to have faith that a government is on the right track. So far the CPC has increased spending on the military to once again allow them to actually be able to service the people of Canada. They have paid down the debt and also cut frivilous spending and increased efficiences in the day to day operations of goverment, and now are saying that they will cut taxes. All that while being a minority government. This is amazing when you consider the last couple years of Liberal government, nothing much got done because they were too busy trying to cover up scandels at every turn. I also like the fact that Harper does all this without all the bally who to the press, seeking their approval. He has done what he said he would do, and he would even address the wait times better if he had a majority government to do so. The things he has been trying to get thru have been held up by liberal dominated senate, and they do this even when it is somethign they should support. It just goes to show you that the Liberal are all about revenge and entitlments as they have been acuused of.
  20. There are so many reasons why some people are unhealthier then others, that this is just plain stupid to think we can base healthcare with lifestyles. Many over wieght and even obese people have no health problems at all. I remember when I was in for my second kidney operation, that the guy next to me was a marthon runner and he died there of congestive heart failure. I was on my second kidney operation due to Genetic causes. I was 148 pounds, 5' 11"and 28 years old. I was also told that my arthritis was going to be a thing that I needed to address as if I did not address it I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 48 years old. I did address it as best as I could and I am now 55 years olds and still walking. While yes I am in constant pain I take pain killers for this. That is why I now live on a disability pension that I bought when I was 18 years old. I would have to say I have been a big user of healtcare over the years, and I wonder just at how anyone can even try to think that my health could have changed anything. If there were no government plans I would have proably died by now. Instead I will live on with reasonable quality of life, for many years yet. Now I am the third son out of a family of four. All my brothers and sisters have excallent health, as did my parents. My genetic disorder that gives me gout, arthritis and kidney problems, would preclude me from ever being able to by private insurance, and as I said I have only been able to have policies that I bought way back as a teenager, before I found out about what lay ahead. Now, by the way this thread topic is going, I guess it is my fault that I am a big user of healthcare, and I should have sought private insurance earlier etc. Much of what I have read here makes me really want to go off at many of you, but I will not. As I know that regardless of the opions expressed here, there is no way any government will support these views. The true people who are unhealthily obese, do not live long lives. Hell even those who are healthy but push the envelopes you see die long before they are 50. Just look in any paper at the obituaries. It is sad that many of those you are talking about being a drain on the system, are there in the papers obituary columns. Yes they really put a drain on the system. Today we can usually make a big difference in the lengths that we can treat and keep people alive. Should we put some controls on it. Say once you use up a certain amount of credits, we take you off the lists and let you die? That is what you are all talking about here, and it disturbs me to no end. People who let themselves go due to their choice in lifestyle, are more then likely those who uyou see dying before they are 50. The majority of people with Heart attacks still die. We do not save that many even with today medicine. So that group you all seem to be holding in contempt, are dying everyday for the choices they made, and you want to further attack them? I would give anything to be able to wake up and not suffer any pain. Go play sports like I used to. But you see because I had an underlying condition that I did not know about, all those thing I did when youger like lift car motors out with out a hoist, play tackle foot ball and fighting in the Legion Boxing Club, all these things gave me places that later in life would give me osteoand ruhmatoid arthrites, and yes they do not stop you then, but you grow older and pay many times over for those things you did, that you thought were healthy. Now My question for all of you is just how would you tell me from any other person you are trying to point at in this threads topic?
  21. Once again I must point out the silliness of polls and reading too much into them. I still believe that Harper only needs to break into the seat rich areas in southeren Ont and Toronto, and that would give them a majority with or without Quebec. I would preferr to have Quebec on side, but it is not a must. I worry that in Quebec any seats shook loose from the Liberals will go to the Bloc before they go to the CPC, but it does not bother me, as the Bloc would not serve the Liberals, in any real votes. Plus Qubecers will soon start to see the shine come off the Liberals once Dion is ousted. As for the rest of Canada goes, I see that the most contencious issues one being the role in Afghanistan, will be quite easy to address should it have to be at election time. I always wondered why Harper never really tried to sell the peope on this issue, and I now wonder if he is not just letting it sit there to be bantered about by the others, so he could then expalin it and make the other seem silly for their opposition. It may just be me, but I do not see the mission as a negative and I really wonder why so very little has been done to show this to Canadians. Once the Liberal leader is chosen it will then be much easier to see where that is going to go. I still say Rae is CPC's best chance to break into seat rich Ont. But Iggy will have some support in Quebec, but I am not sure about him being able to hold the seats in and around Toronto. He would probably have a better chance then Rae would. The Atlantic provinces will probably swing both ways depending on the efforts put there by each party. The west will be CPC almost exclusively. There would be no chance of the liberals being able to come to power in this. At least not for quite some time, and a total change of direction. The polls that are taken while there is no election call, are really not very accurate of anything, If and when we get close to an election call then and only then will these ever make sense. But even then they should be looked at with a questioning mind.
  22. If the people being evicted can get it on tape that the landlord said the only reason he is doing this is because he wants only Korean clients, they can then sue him in civil court and this landlord would not be the property owner for very long. The civil suits and the settlements will probably cause him to have to sell the property to satisfy the judgements. He is breaking the law and these people just have to let the law slowly grind him to a halt in what he is doing. It takes time but in the end the landlord will have to pay all costs involved. While yes this is a civil rights type thing It hardly belongs here in the threads, as it really is more of a local government issue
  23. I was in Ottawa today and so I decided to look up some of my buddies from College where we all atudied biochemostry. Over Luch I posed the question that if any of them would back the climate change position that it was irrefutable, and risk they jobs on it. That started to discussions and no one had said they would bet anything on it but went on to say that the proof points in that direction. Not even one would say that there was any proof that global warming was caused by anything. We all agreed that pollution was unhealthy and that was bad for people and yes they had no trouble stating that as fact, but every one of my six buddies balked when it came to saying it wasa cause of global warming. There were many ideas about just what we can predict and what we can not, and global temperature can not be predicted for next summer let alone decades away. We kind of all agreed that nothing done so far by any country has ever had a reducing affect on this issue. We also had most agree that we should not expect reductions so much as accept the status quo, but not so stringently that we hurts economies, because there just is not that kind of evidence that would justify that kind of action. Now on another note I found as funny that out of the six of us 4 were supporters of the views of CPC, I liberal, and One the Bloc. even though we have those divisions we all pretty much see things the same. So when it comes to climate change and things of that nature, while political parties try to claim ground for there own causes, it seem the people do not care about who it is that does the deed, but rather that the deed is done in a proper way.
  24. You know, I could careless if a future MP or even PM has ever skinny dipped, that is not for me to judge. But doing this on TV infront of the voters, well I just can not help but say it lacks class and taste. But then again I guess I never equated class and taste with Rae to begin with, so nothing has changed in that respect. Persoanaly I think this will bite him in the ass come election time.
  25. You did not have a place for being able to protect our soveignty in the artic as well as right across our land. Canada should have the best force in the world for cold climate operations, and this then will also re-instate our claim to our own artic lands, which just ahppen to be a major part of our country. All levels of the forces need to be brought up to date with that in mind.
