Thinking through Afghanistan
watching&waiting replied to Figleaf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That desribes about 98% of all the worlds governments. So I guess you will just decide to be the sqeeky wheel and hope something changes? The more we can show the Afghan people that there are better ways and these ways are feasible, then we will see the governments cleaning themselves up. It was not so long agao that many of these countries were lead by dictators, and there were no elections. So far it has been a small step and one that I must say is on par with the soliers of the WWII who came to oust Hitler from power. Do you think that the lives of the many thousands that were given to that cause were also invain? The one thing I for one do not ever want Canada known for is runnning out on a fight to leave their allies behind to suffer the consequences. I do not think that the Canadian soldiers would do that even if ordered to do so. Maybe it is time to let those who know what to do and where to go, do so and quit second guessing in things you have no idea about. -
You just have to look at Harper to see that he is his own man. While at times he may agree with others on a subject, he raely if ever has given unbritled support to anything from another position. Canada needed a leader who would stand up for Canada and he is doing just that. If you look at the foreign appearances he has made, all have impressed those in attendance. Something the Liberal could never say. They were more of an embarassment to Canada. This whole Idea of Harper being a clone of Bush is just so way out there, that most see this kind of topic and dismiss it as just another leftwing stunt to insult the PM. If you look around you willl find very few of the public people condemning Harper. It is mostly the left and far left that seem to have a hard on for this type of attack. Most of these people lead very boring lives and find little else to do but critisize, anyone who does not believe as they do. It will soon become a matter of showing the Canadian people the exact bottlenecks that has kept the accountability ledgislation from being passed, is just another liberal ploy to try and scorch the earth, because they are not in power anymore. people are starting to see this more and more every day. When the writ is dropped and another election is on going, it will be the liberal who will pay dearly for all the stunts they have pulled. By now most of the Canadian public have lost any scarey Harper feelings and will now see that in order to get the job done that was promised, he will need a majority to do so. I have no doubt that this will happen. We will all have the liberal dominated Senate to thank for it. Right after we abolish it as it stands and have elecyted Senate seats from that point on. I personally look forward to the next election and I also want to make it clear that even a new leader for the Liberals will not be able to make the people forget what they did, and they will show it at the polls.

Afghanistan Mission - The Right Thing To Do
watching&waiting replied to jacknameth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am still trying to hold my tongue in this, but I am sick of the thick head Canadians that thing just because the enemy does not fall down immediately we should then rethink the war effort. These sissy's are never going to agree to any action other then smothering the Taliban with flowers and kind words. Personally they make me sick, and to listen to then in this week where we try to honour our war dead not only from this war but all past wars. But I guess many of the soldiers did die for these guys to have the right to speak their minds. Even though they insult the very being that give them that right. I do not give a hoot about who brought us to Afghanistan, but rather that we are making a difference. Mindless people have spew but 200,000 les people are in school this year, and I shake my head wanting to show that where the sun don't shine. This is complete posturing and those who use it are traitors and should be stramped out of Canadian society. These people can only find fault in everything anyway. This week is Rememberence week, it used to be just a day in years gone by, but now we feel the need to show more then that for our troops. We are in afghanistan because it is the right things to do. We are not there alone but with NATO who make up many other countries, and since they also agree that it is right, these whining, and carping naysayers are just a blipm who spout off to get reactions. They lead sad lives as they should. This is Canada and you either support it or leave for somewhere else as we do not want any to stay if they can not be happy here. You may well see people wearing white poppies this Nov 11 2006. I feel that each of these people should be approached and told that is they can not support Canada as it is they should go home. We do not want their respect because it comes with clauses, and our troops deserve better. I just hope these idiots have the good sense to stay away from the ceremonies. -
Quebec...get the hell outta here!
watching&waiting replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I really am soooo tired of the French vs English crap and how the French have a very seperate society. Hell we should make them go never mind letting them go. Divide up the national debt and make them leave with the same lands they came with and asap make the rest of Canada english speaking only. No more spending tax dollars supporting dual languages and anyone who does not want to be part of the new Canada, should have his lands bought out at market value and then sent to Quebec. If Quebecers who do not want to seperate, can be brought into Canada for the first year. After that they would need to immigrate to come here. Of course this is one of my more activist moments and of course not politically correct in any way shape ot form. But it is at least my gut reaction to the question. -
French Canadian MP's booed Cherry
watching&waiting replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Personally I think Don Cherry should be booed at, but not just for his bigotted way with words, but just for being the inflaming idiot he portrays. The fact that it was the Frwench MP's booing him is not surprising as they are also the first ones to tell people to answer them in french even if there are english only people also in the conversation, and if you pint that out, they rudely say that they should then learn french if they want to take part in the discussion. This is looked upon as a normal behaviour for the french, but by any one else's view it is very rude. Cherry being booed at by these guys, will take that as a badge of glory, which by my own standard is not only rude but inflamatory. -
It really is childish to think that the opposition can force or even shame Harper into going to a summit that he would rather not attend. It is not that his being there serves any special purpose. If harper wanted to use it as a platform to show his own views on Global Warming then he would go. He has many things that I am sure he will find to do, instead of the EU Summit. Since all of our own major releationships run North - South. The East -West will just have to wait its turn. Canada is embarking in a new direction from Kyoto and there is nothing the EU or any other group can do to change that. I kind of like the fact that Harper will not prostitute himself to garner favours like Layton and the NDP do time and time again. That is one of the reasons I support him and his view on Global warming. What will the NDP for sold themselves for next week? This is just soo much of a temper tantrum by Layton who feels he shoudl be able to set the PM's timetable for him.

You know I am looking at this and all I am seeing is that people want to simply discredit the whole thing because this person was involved with fraud in 2004. So what, most of the leaders today have been either found guilty of similar offences or have had the charges mysteriosly disappear. The who thing should be looked at on the level of what it brings to the golbal warming table. If the facts and issues are fraudulent then it should be found to be so only after looking at what it is and how it was derrived at. Very few of the worlds scientists dare say anything about what they truly feel about global warming and most are arfraid that their grants will disappear if the enter into the fray. But they say loads by the fact that the majority of them refuse to say anything one way or another. Since the goverments of the day are more leaning towards the ECO groups view, many if they agreed would speak out in favour. The fact that most are quiet would mean they probably do not agree in whole with the ECO groups view, but know that simple speech now could put them out of work tomorrow. I personally do not think that Canada really has a big problem with the environment, and even if we stooped producing all greenhouse gases to morrow we would not see it in any measureable way. It would be along the lines of about one thosandth of a percent, and that would be only after many years of complete greenhouse gas elimination. There are so many things that cause the changes that we see today that to pick man made influence out of the thousands of causes and then try to make the numbers crunch is not science, but rather alarmism. Even the ECO scientist admit that if everything stopped tomorrow, we would not see any differences for many years. If people want to see fraud, just look at the scientists for the ECO groups. They make their living from being alarmist and only with that will they keep grant money coming to them. Yet they will not go on the limb and say that these things are hard scientific fact. They always say the models show this or that, but never going any further to stake their lifes work on it. So, if you are open minded and hopefully you should be, then lookmat all the data not just what you think validates your own view and then with all being looked at then see if you can come to any solid con clusions. I think you will find that right now there just is a huge amount of doubt from both sides, and with that much doubt, you should keep the money in reserve until we do know the way to go. Not spend it all now and then find out later it was the wrong place and then have nothing later to follow the right path.

With most of the Middle East it is that a single murderer is bad, a suicide murderer is a hero, and mass murderes are the government whethere elected or dictator. What was thought and said to be the cradel of life, maybe needs a complete exterminantion, before starting to rebuild over it again.

Harper's stunning reversal on income trusts
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Does anyone really believe that the government could just sit by and let these huge corporations become income trusts, so as to flaunt the taxes they would have under normal conditions, to have to pay. When you get the companies like Telus and BCE doing this, there would be a huge drop in the tax coffers and the only ones benefiting from it would be the large companies and their investors. The writing was on the wall and what these compnies had hoped for was that while CPC was in the minority position, they could then make use of this and get at least a good run for their efforts knowing that it will have to end sooner or later. I find it a good thing that Harper did this now, which not only was the right thing to do, but for me it shows to me that the CPC, will do the right thing over the politically expedient thing. That says a lot for me right there. -
Conservatives Plans News Tax on Trusts
watching&waiting replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No sane person thought that the governments would let all the big companies go the Income trust route. It was only a matter of time before the loophole was closed. I do not think it will bother too many that this has happened, but you never can tell. I am pretty sure most thought it would be closed soon but maybe not this soon. -
Layton won't rule out no-confidence motion
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Jack Layton will not rule out a confidence vote? My oh my you actually would think that he has some sort of power now wouldn't you. Maybe he and Chow have gotten into the herb again. This guy makes my skin crawl and when he speaks I can only smile and look away, as he has got to be the worst informed person in the braodest amount of topics. He does not know a single thing about the environment and he definitely does not know the first thing about how one would address such problems. He can not even get the timing right, and is always trying to bring a voice of urgency forward, where there are no urgent matters necessary. The people will sooner or later see that the plan put out by the CPC does actually do the things that all the others are crying for and it does them well within the time frame of the problem. There are no needs so compelling that money needs to be thrown around like a Liberal, or at least to their own liberal members  The house is going to meet and they will pass all the necessary things and yes the Liberal senate will stall as much as they can. Which will backfire come the next election day as it will show that there is a very good need for a CPC majority. So the Accountability and the get tough on crime as well as many others will be on them for holding it up. Why should any CPC not take advantage of all the things, until the bills are past. These are just games to the non governing parties. But the day of reckoning will come and it will not be a good day to be Liberal or NDP. Hell the Bloq may even take a hit or two, but that time will be CPC time to shine. As soon as Canadains are forced to the polls you will see the polls will all but bury the the Liberals and NDP, mostly because they are stupid and fight so much among themselves that they will not be ready for an election for years to come. So Layton, you bring on a confidence vote and see what happens. Hell, you may have Harper bringing on an election this spring right after an election based budget, just like the Liberals used to do. But maybe he will not sink to those levels. -
Harper is ______________ (fill in the blank)
watching&waiting replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why would we not just say he is the leader of the Canadian government in this as well. He was elected even if it was to be a minority government and he has run the government in the way he promised and he is doing his best to bring about all the things he said he would do when he sought being elected. So I guess to the opposition doing the things you promised during an election is a bad thing? I would have to say that I find Harper and he methods of governing to be a new and refreshing method, as opposed to the days of the Liberals where there were scandels every week, and the government just going on like the scandels did not exist. They never stopped and acknowledged any of them because they had a majority government and that allowed them to just sweep things under the rug. Harpers new way of doing things is a breath of fresh air. Yes he does keep a tight ship and you do not see scandels coming every week or even every day. The best the opposition can do is raise a issue about an implied insult to an empty chair. That just goes to show you how well this government is really doing. Harper is not out here every week trying to sell something to the Canadian people because most of the people agree with what he is doing. There is no need to sell anything if it is seen to be the right thing to do. Only when things are bad for the people do you need to sell them on this. The people of Canada will when the time is needed will again look at all the things positive and negative about the parties involed and make they vote once again for the government. I have little doubt that the nest government will be a CPC majority. The Liberals will be fighting for third or even fouth position, with a total melt down of the quebec support, and hue losses in and around Toronto. This is my own view of things as they may unfold in the next election. -
What ever the number, it was not very large and I am glad to se that we do not have a large numbers of Traitors here in Canada. Since they are so unhappy with the ways of life and the choices our government makes, they should pack up and move to a country they feel better about. Instead they decide to publically display their own views and draw as much attention to it as possible. This not only harms our own troops morale but it emboldens the insurgecy to do more attacks and possibly kill more of our soldiers. Great job people. You really make Canada proud right? Just as everyone on this site has an opinion of the posters and their own agendas or non agendas, I am sure that by now once again it has been made clear, just how badly this has decended to. I wonder some time at what will the next low be, and then again it will appear. It is no longer funny, being a traitor is not something that one can shed so easily. I suggest that we all just ignore him completely, and that way he will sooner or later just go away.
-
If that is the extent of the support for bringing the troops home, then they will be there for many years. Just another sad attempt by the left and brainless trying to impose their will on the rest of us. Just sooo sad. But it once again just shows how some people here will post anything, just to feed an agenda. To bad our soldiers are fighting for their right to make such posts. I would like it much better if we could send these people over there to fight on the front lines. Maybe then they would finally use their brains or spill them all over. Either way it would make Canada a better place.

CP: Mackay controversy flares anew
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In any normal society this would have not been given any time at all. The only reason it has been given time is that the Liberals have taken it way out of proportion and tryied to garner some political points over it. To bad they do not see it thru my eys where all it did was lose them points for any comments made after the same dy it was made. It only shows you that the Liberal party has now gone about as low as it can get. They just do not seem to have any class or credibility left to carry on much of anything. Even the news papres treat their leadership race as a thing to be pitied. I guess we will have to wait for the voters to finally put the last nails in the party coffin. The more they try to push this type of thing, the more it shows that their party is more inclined to issues of petty politics, then they are about issues of the day. The more the Senate stonewalls the bills it is sent, the easier it will be to make sure CPC have a majority government the next time out. It is the Liberals doing it to Liberals and they do not even see that it is happening. -
Spring Election just months away...
watching&waiting replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I reallly do not think that an election will be caled until next fall. The Liberals as has been pointed out are still in debt and it looks like they may well go even deeper in to debt. No matter what leader they choose, that leader will need a lot of time to try and unite the party and find common grounds on things to run an election on. If they hurry then they will loose big time. The NDP has lost alot of their industrial root backing and they will not be able to spend properly on an election this spring, so I would think that they will hold off as well. The Bloq is ready to go when ever, but they would rather have the Liberal party again in scandelouus issues in Quebec, so they can gain seats. They know that the Liberals can not go long with out a scandel happening and the Bloq's choice for elections would be right after things get stirred up again. The CPC proabbly will want an election in the spring as they would like to get the chance at the majority government. They have left enough issues out there to be able to make the Liberals the ones who have held up many things that the public supports and wanted done asap. Also depending on the leader of the Liberals, it will be a campagne that will address the short comings of eithe Rae or Iggy. Either one will have their feet turned to the fire and for good reasons. I personally think Iggy would break under the pressure and Rae will melt some what, when the hard questions are asked of them. Since the CPC are the only ones who can really enginerr the date and time on thier own choosing, the others will have to gang up and eachones timetable will not necessarily be the same. -
I have witnessed many time where the police have broken law after laws because they know most people can not do anything to them as long as they present a unted front. I would have to say that at least 80% of police officers are like this. I also have been on the receiving end in some things and yes if you strike them back when they strike you they then try to lay all kinds of charges against you. They see this as overwhelming you, as their right to do. It is not their right and it is against the law. I never had any problems with officers who if they stop you and ask for Id and do what they need to chack and then give you back your stuff and that is that. It is when they want to talk down to you and they believe you will cowwer and allow then to step all over your rights. I no longer have any respect for the vast majority of officers, and the one I do respect are few, but they do their jobs within the law and that is what I will always respect about them. If we could clean up the forces and get rid of the bad apples I may once again put faith in them, but not until them.

CP: Mackay controversy flares anew
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For the slow learners if it is not in the Hansard record then as faras parliament is concerned it does not exist. The speaker has already ruled. So he can not be held to a lie about something that does not exist on the official record. This is just soooo dumb. -

Ignatieff proposes to recognize Quebec as a nation
watching&waiting replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of the list that was given I really had to smile att ehBagels and smoked meat as being Quebecer. Yes many of the others are just simple celebrations of events that many english cites have. The St John Batist day though is as close to being Quebec, as I can see so far. Maple surup farms are all over. -

Gerry I think that you ahve made many more assuptions with this story then the rest of us have. I guess that is because we are not seeking out such things. But twist it any way you want, it still is not news worthy. -
Liberals Using sexist Card via Stronach
watching&waiting replied to jefferiah's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well I guess I will have to say that using my own experience of what it takes to call a person a dog. If a man is chasing many females and he is not so fssy about whether thay are married or not, I would call him a dog. Now all things being equall I have to use that same criteria for Belinda, and so yes I call her a dogand mean it. The whole rub here is that everyone kno that MacKay implied she was a dog and that all know he did not mean it. So there is no real hate and no real offense. Belinda was not there to hear it or see it, so she can not say she is hurt by it as it would only be those making something of it that would have made here aware. Toughen up Belinda you will be called much worse and I would even find it hard to think that with the trail of man in your wake that your own father has not mused the use of dog or bitch in heat, type phrases, whenit comes to the things you have been known to do. -
Sponsership Scandal not over?
watching&waiting replied to Canadian Blue's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is not the same story and it is not the CPC doing this but the province of Quebec. It is their own Surete Quebec police that are now investigating the criminal side to this and it will go well beyond the boundaries that Farser had limiting here. It also will bring into investigation all the moneys, not just what Faser could prove was misspent. This is no longer a political investigation but a criminal investigation. I would say that change in itself needs a new thread. -

Well I guess it really take some doing but I can see that many here want to nflate this into some big bad thing. Well I say let them wait for the lection and see just how much water it holds. So blow it up and when it busts and the fallout is on the Liberals for portraying it as much more then it was, then I will just smile and watch the CPC majority roll over the Libs.
