If you really do not want to fill out the census then tell them you are illerate and they will ask you questions on the phone, just play dumb and you will be quickly dismissed from the task. But if you really want to be part of the true makeup of Canada then answer the forms truthfully and then you know that you have done your part. I do not like the idea that you are by law obligied to fill out these forms, but the law is the law no matter how stupid it may seem. If you falsify the info on the form, it is unlikely they will catch you. But if by chance they did catch you, it may well be that you will be heavily fined for this action.

It was already said that the program cuts were based on where the money invested gave a return in that investment. In other words if your program did nothing to better society, or create some other benifit, it would be axed. If they was a need of such magnitude, and where the money could be justified, then you had nothing to fear. But if you look at what was killed, there really was not the justification for the money. The debt reduction money saved enough in inerest to pay for many more things or to again reduce the debt. So the 13 billion today saved 688,000,000.00 million per year from this point onward. That is a lot of money right there. I would love to see tax breaks come but if it is not in the cards then I would rather the debt be paid, then government spending more. In the end though it will all come back to the people.

Tie Domi and Belinda Stronach.
watching&waiting replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I really could not careless if Belinda was gang banging the whole hockey team, she is an adult and she has the right to say yes or no to who she sleeps with. But yes this will only bring attention to her political arena and it will make some people chose others, because they will vote on moral issues. Not that I think her riding is anything like the bible belt in the USA. Hell in some places this would gain her support. Also, it is quite possible that she is not involved with this, but from the reports it does seem more likely then not. I hope she thinks it was worth it. I am sure Peter Mackay will think he is glad to have dodged the bullet with her. -
The Afghani people have an elected government and they have an army and police forces. While these may not be the strongest aspect oof their society, I would imagine that they should be capable of imprisoning prisoners of war. I do not believe that Canada should be handing over prisoners to the USA. Since we have soldiers in Afghanistan that are helping to train police and army units, it would also be good to let these guys also run POW camps. This way there would be no removal of these prisoners to Cuba or any of the other hidden prisons run by the CIA. Also since the Afghan army is now only 35,000 strong we should be maybe looking at finding volunteers that would like to join and maybe double its size. I am not sure of the size of the police forces there but we also need that to be raised as well. I think when people are now seeing that there can be change that is good, we will see more and more Afghani peope volunteer for the services. This way we will be building towards the day they are self sufficient.

Support for Harper Government dropping
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Now lets see what the polls will have to say after the news today about debt reduction and also saving 1.1billion is government spending this yera and another Billion is expected for next year. Mean while the Libs are too busy showing Canadians that even there leadership hopefuls are corrupt as the party has always been. Yup Volpe is doing great work for the party now is he not? The Italian Canadians are really going to like the libs this time round. So since you like polls wait for those to come out. But the CPC does not govern by the polls or have you not noticed that. They tend to do what is right not just what is popular, and when the time comes for election we will see just how that makes the Canadian voter think and cast their votes. But that time may be way off because even if the libs have a new leader it probably will take a year or more for him to unite the party before any vote to bring down the house goes. -
Gerry as you can see the CPC are very busy saving us billions of dollars and make our lives better after the Liberal debacle. So you may have to forgive them if they are late in accounting for trival things. Only you care about this and as you can see very few here have a interest in it. So if you ask me, you do not count for anything so I hope the take their time about giving an accounting of the books.

Tories cut $1.1 billion over two years
watching&waiting replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Many of the things they have cut funding to I agree with. Some of the things though i would have to think about, but so far from what I have seen on the news about this, I feel it was in the right directions and I will await a more indepth accounting before I say for sure. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gerry You just do not get it do you. Your hate for everything Harper is going to drive you insane, if it has not already. You should be more concerned with the libs and what is left of their pathetic leadership voting. The only thing that Canadians need to catch on to is that the libs are once again showing that this next batch of leadership hopefuls are just as corrupt and and devious as the last batch. Hell Harper just has to stay his course and he will be sure to get re-elected. The libs will have to prove that they do not deserve to be reduced to the likes of the NDP. It is coming Gerry and I can hardly wait. -
I am a little amused and mostly in doubt about just what and where people think Canada has an obligation to do. This is a UN sanctioned NATO mission, and we are only part of the contingency that is deployed there. Now considering we only had 58,000 members in our armed forces and maybe 10 % were battle trained soldiers, are we expected to pick up the slack when the call for more troops comes? We will have about 2500 troops there and half will be support troops. We need to be able to rotate our troops from front lines etc, so that can take breaks in the fighting. So we have approx 1/8 of our fighting troops in Afghanistan. We have other world operations as well but that is mostly peace keeping. We could probably double our commitment of troops and armour, but then we would have very little left here in Canada to protect our own land. I am all for Harper increasing the size of our forces to appr 85,000, and the recent equipment purchases. I no longer feel I have to be ashamed of the way our military were treated by the Liberals. Things had gotten so bad that when NATO came to call on us for our support we had to hitch hike rides to get there. The soldiers have done a brilliant job over in Afghanistan and they deserve a country that supports them at all levels. The question of how long never can be said in these things. In WWII did anyone know how long that war would go on? I think Harpers answer of "we have committed so far to 2009, but we intend to be there until the job is finished" is a very good answer and an honest one. I just wish the CPC had some more charismatic speakers in their midst, to better explain these things. Also you must see that many even though they know the answer are playing dumb, because of politics. I myself will take issue with alot of the things being said here in the media. To me they sit on the border of being a traitor, when they spout publicly about this war can never be won and why are we there, also we need to pull out immediately. This same stuff if said during WWII would have got you jailed for being a traitor and if said in the front lines you would have been shot as a traitor. How times have changed Canada should be in Afghanistan as the Taliban needed to be ousted and the same with Al Queda. The job there is not finished and we need even more support for our troops for that to be done. I will do all in my power to make that goal achieved. I truly believe that CPC will again be elected and will have a majority within the next year. I would hate to think what Liberals would do in this situation, but it is evident to me it would not be something I would be proud of.

CTV: Joe Volpe not dropping out
watching&waiting replied to kimmy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am loving this. It seems that the Liberal party will be reminding the voters about their own corruption, with articles like this coming out. I think they seem to want to make a scene of things, and what better way to do so then shoot yourself in the foot. Volpe is never ever going to win the leadership race and he will never garner enough support to make a difference support wise to who he throws what little he has. But the smear affect that having his support will cause will be more damaging then anything else anyone could do. -
This 13 billion when applied to the debt not only shrinks the debt by that amount but it also save the amount of interest that would have incurred. If we still keep paying down the debt like this we can and will be able to be debt free in a couple decades. While Canada is doing will now, we do not know what is around the coener. Remember the liberals said there was no way that harper could pay for his election promises and not raise taxes? Well they were wrong once again now weren't they. Even after all the military spending and the GST cuts we have seen another huge surplus. He may well cut some taxes in his next budget, and with his government doing as well as this during a minority situation, I would say that people will soon look and see that they are willing to give him a majority situation in the next election. Who ever the libs pick as a leader will even more so now need a united paln and as we all can see that the libs are fragmented and no one in the race is capable of uniting them all. As for NDP they will yip and yap about things, once again showing they are the idiots of the parties.
-
Hmmm I guess the libs have found a new way yo pick a leader. Just throw them all into it and have each say how he or she is less corrupt then the other one and just who can deflect the most inuendo. The one who hides his corrupotion the best wins Seriously, can the libs not find someone in their midst that would be clean and willing to stay that way? It is a sad day when with all the candidates there is not one that does not have hue baggage attached. ow you can see why the people who would have had a chance to run and win have decided to take a time out. The libs are one screwed up party.

Was Brian Mulroney a Crook?
watching&waiting replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
With adscam the money was used to buy votes and to also make party faithful very rich and also it was used to finace the Quebec wing of the liberal party. The adscam was so entrenched into the high profile liberals that while it can not be proven the criminality of some but it points that way, and is more likely then not. Shortly you will again see books by Gagliano and others telling tales on others etc. These books will again inflame the Quebec voters and Liberal will again be on their shit lists. It is not CPC doing this but the old liberals who had the adscam dumped on them. Now they want to talk and tell all. It is going to get interesting again. -
Was Brian Mulroney a Crook?
watching&waiting replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Brain Mulroney was a very full of himself type person who always tried to show how important he was. He did many things in his ealy years I liked and then in his latest years many I did not like and probably could say I hated him for it. When he left, he saw fit to name Rinaldo (his wifes hairdresser to a seat on the bank of Canada, and there were so many other inyour face appointments that you knew were just political payback, that it disturbed me to the max. He was drunk at the time of Oka because he was really POed that the Meech Lake failed. He is a recovering alcoholic and that thru him off the wagon. So yes I can say he did do wrong but not by the law but by decency and morales. I tolerate him having the ear of the leaders now, but only because like I said he knew how to plan and appraoch things in his early years. I would not ever want him to have any position in the government or power at all. -
Is the RCMP having a problem?
watching&waiting replied to Figleaf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I will not make my reasons public, but a speeding ticket I would laugh at. Mine was a case where a private company paid for an investigation by the RCMP that was slanted back to what the private company wanted and actions taken from there. Even the trial judge admonished the RCMP for their behaviour and said they could easily be sued for it. But as life would have it I could no longer afford the expense and took a plea and $20,000.00 fine. The officers who did this when I spoke to them after laughed and said go ahead a sue us, you may see a penny or two after legal costs and I would be old as ready to die by the time it ended. So yes I think the RCMP are the best police force money can buy. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We are there in afghanistan at the behest of the United Nations. We are a contributing member of this body and yes we also are part of NATO, which is who The UN made the request to. Also we are there to liberate the innocent Afghani people from the Taliban and from the drug warlords that were terrorising the south of that country. The very way of life that we stand for here in Canada would be reason enough for the taliban to torture and kill you. Does anyone think that is a good way to live? We have in the past fought against Communism and played peacekeeper in many areas. We should be proud of our tradition of fighting the good fight. Yes there will always be casualties and this was fact even in peace keeping missions. Harper actually is following my feelings on this issue and I am glad he is. I will say though that he is not a very effective speaker when it comes to explaining this to Canadians, and maybe he should find someone better able to get the points out to the public. -
I would not want Canada to sign onto this as I do believe we did the right thing before in supporting the world court. I do know the USA would like to see others sign as it has really bad optics etc with the invasion of Iraq etc., and the abuses of prisoners and also the hidden CIA prisons. That is the sort of thing that the world court can and will address sooner or later. But the USA would like others to jion them in denying recognition so it will seems less one sided.

Is the RCMP having a problem?
watching&waiting replied to Figleaf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am no fan of the RCMP and I do know first hand about abusive power they use and how the little guy will never get justice. The corruption of our federal police force starts at the top and believe me it all flows down through the ranks to the very bottom. I at first thought that it was just an attitude they learned in training, but theft and coruption is at all levels and it runs deep and wide. Even if the head of the RCMP is replaced he will have to do a major house cleaning if he wants to really change the way things are. We should take all the officers that have had trouble and send them to Afghanistan to help police over there where they will have to use the basic callings in everyday policing and then maybe they will see the error of their ways by the time they come back. -
I have an announcement to make...
watching&waiting replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well congradulations on winning the election and for the other appointment. I hope you the best and may you find guidance and inspiration in all you do to achieve your goals. -
If the liberals are crazy enough to vote Rae their leader, then it will be an easy election win for a CPC majority. The east coast would not likely take well to him and Quebec will easily turn to Harper when the other choice is Rae. Quebecers were here and watching when Rae pretty much destroyed Ontario, I do not think they will allow him the chance to repeat that in Quebec. The West will assuredly go CPC and BC will split some but I do think Haper will be the winner but in a closer race. I whole heartedly would think Rae would be the ideal candidate for a CPC majority. Maybe I should join the libs and vote for him

Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We, Canada, are at war with the Taliban and torrorist insurgents in Afghanistan. That means our Prime Minister is the one who has full authority to use the troops and he also has the responsibility for ordering them into danger. So the title of this thread is almost as stupid as the thread its self. Layton and his NDP are the biggest idiots when it comes to anything to do with government, and in the village of Parliament he would be the village idiot, but mind you there is a close race for that position. Layton is a traitor to Canada and if he were in the front lines and repeated what he has here he would be shot for such. This is war, and yes Canada is in it, like it or not. We have to support our troops 100% and anyone who does not, should be expelled from Canada. There are places for arguments about our soldiers and it is not in the middle of the media. There may come a time in the not so distant future, where war will break out on our own soil, and it again will be a terrorist war much like what we see in Afghanistan. Canada has been very lucky to not have had war on its soil since 1812. We must see that it can and will come here one day, are you ready for that time? I think not, as we have become lazy little cry babies and expect everything to be done for us, by others never by ourselves. I am proud to be a Canadian, and I am proud of our troops in Afghanistan and for what they stand for and what they are doing. You have a right to think different that that, just keep it to yourself and out of the media, as it harms our troops and reduces their moral. I for one would like to see the drafting of guys like Gerryhatrick, he would make a good bayonet dumby during training, and maybe we could sent him over the front lines to see if he can talk to the Taliban. All this guy seems to do here is try to raise a stink about any and everything, and he really has not proof of most of what he says. He admits he uses a arab minded think tank for his way of thinking and to me that is just waving the flag infront of the bull. To me he is a traitor to the country and to the troops abroad, but Iam sure he will deny it. -
liberal leadership race.......
watching&waiting replied to JMH's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I can not see Jerryhatrick working for the Libs or any party for that matter. He just is way too belligerent in his ways and methods of communications. Most people here I believe learned to hate him for this, and now many tolerate him but many ,many have just chose to ignore him. The would make him pretty much a poison pill for anyone who would employ him. What ever he does to make his living goes, he probably has issues with thise around him, and would be quick to blame them for his problems. I can only guess and say he is a social outcast as it seems he is far too entrenched in his own view to consider or tolerate any arguments other then his own. Now that is only my personal view of him, and I can only go by his behaviour here on this site. I can only hope that what he displays here is just an evil personality of a many personality disorder. -
"West won’t win Afghan war"
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It was said that yes the insurgents have destryed schools so 200,000 students are now without classes, but that still does not mean the 6,000,000 who are in school including the 200,000 girls are to be set aside. Yes in the south where our troops are now fighting, there are plans to again reopen the schools as soon as security can be brought about, and then those other 200,000 wil again be brought back into classes. The present government is made up of 28% women and there is no real support of any law to change that. Since this government is one of the most modern thinking, we should leave this to them to work out a fair and viable solutions. Right now women have more rights in Afgahistan then most muslim countries in the world. You preferr to look at the dark side, when most others look at the bright side. Those fighting are fighting against the darker sides, and I do believe that we can and will win in that battle. -
Volpe Membership Campaign Memberships
watching&waiting replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So has it really come to this, where you have to see who os the lesser cheat? I will have no problem saying things about CPC if they break the rules as well. But I do have to say that spending a little more on a campagne is a lot different then lieing and cheating before and during the campagne. But I guess that is in the person who views it. -
"West won’t win Afghan war"
watching&waiting replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you read the copies of the speech given to the parliament by the president of Afghanistan, you will see that the vast majority of the people of Afghanistan welcome our troops with open arms and are very thankfull for the sacrifices they have made. He has said it has made a difference already in that of the 6 million students in school now 2 million are girls. Also the government is 20% female representatives. So I can see that this is not only a big change in the way things are done there now, but it looks like they are building a very open and modernized version of a muslim country. That to me is something we should be proud to have had a hand in. Yes it will be very hard to crush the Taliban and the other insurgents, as long as they can easily cross into Pakistan and regroup and recruit and trian new forces from there. But for just how long do you and I believe that will be tolerated, and even if the Pakistani government were to decide to allow this, they know that it will soon find these bases bombed and destroyed if they do nothing. At this time it is just something of a festering sore, but they know they must either fixe the problem or give the USA permission to act on their behalf. It will come, it is just a matter of when. So as long as the Canadian and other UN troops can keep the border on this side blocked, there will be no room to run and hide. This will spell the beginning of thr end for major insurgents in southern Afghanistan. So yes this can be won and it can be come the first example of a modern government in a muslim country.
