Conservative anti-Ignatieff ad
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is nobody to blame for this election call. It is how the system is designed to work. -
Should this nation choose to ignore the detrimental effects of debt and deficit they will have created a division amongst citizens. If the candidates for election ignore to 5 ton elephant in the room which is the debt and deficit and the consequent impact on government spending, then the trend begun will reflect the USA option of filling the pockets of bankers will citizens taxes.

CPC Campaign Strategy: Fear, Fear and More Fear
Jerry J. Fortin replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Iggy did support the coalition concept as an MP, but not as a leader. There is a difference. -
Declare him an adult at the time of the crime and charge him with treason.

I remember when platforms were relevant too. I also remember when those platforms were considered a bond between the government and the people. Times have changed, and the only real constant is indeed change. Its time to shrink government. Its time to make government more accountable. Its time to start making the public accountable as well. Part of our problems are social and part of our problems are administrative. The government can deal with the administrative issues and the public can deal with the social issues, but it means change for all. Just simply finding a group of elected representatives to get down to business and do their jobs properly is the 5 ton elephant in the room.

CPC Campaign Strategy: Fear, Fear and More Fear
Jerry J. Fortin replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think you are right Molly. Harper may or may not realize this, its hard to say because there hasn't been very much public interaction with them yet but that is about to change. If Harper is smart he will avoid the confrontation to the extent possible because Iggy will hand him his head in any intellectual gunfight. -
True enough. Perhaps I should mention that I am on 24 hour call and that the time frames are not set. Explanation; right now I am scheduled to go to work in about 18 hours, but that will likely change. So I sort of sleep here and there and am often just out of bed when I am online here.

CPC Campaign Strategy: Fear, Fear and More Fear

Just keep in mind that Iggy is smarter than many give him credit for. This may seem a little tinfoil hatish to some , but I actually think that Iggy plans to use Harper against Harper. -
I actually want the dreamer! Of course I want some practical application of that vision espoused by the dreamer, but nonetheless I want the dreamer. Dare to dream! You have it bent, I said the time was past for those slogans not any slogan. To get rid of bureaucracies and antiquated systems.

Deficit Balloons to 101 Billion
Jerry J. Fortin replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think there is no doubt an election is indeed coming, but for Iggy to take the entire cabinet on one at a time seems like a stretch to me be because there simply isn't enough time during the election cycle to do the job right. So I would suggest that it was merely a sideswipe on the minister. -
I think the government has to take that angle, and I think the opposition would do well to use it as a corner stone.

Deficit Balloons to 101 Billion
Jerry J. Fortin replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Molly I didn't suggest that at all. I stated very clearly that "his credibility has far less consequence than that of the Prime Minister" I then followed that up with a comment that any plan to take on ministers one at a time was complex and something that I did not expect them to do. Perhaps what I should have said was that it seems to me to be a waste of time going after the little fish for Iggy. He needs to keep his eye on the target during this hunt and the target is Steve Harper. -
The slogan is definitive, "We can do better". It is not "We think we can do better".
-
Argus the time for those slogans has past. What the party needs is something they can use in many ways. I think you are right about it being a punch line instead of a cheer line. Even so, they need something to separate them from the government and this does it for them.

The "man" needs to be put on trial.
-
Good point. However it would also be an arrogant statement, and that concept is something they want to avoid.

CPC Campaign Strategy: Fear, Fear and More Fear

This suggests that in fact the idea is not dead. It also suggests that Iggy does not wish to discuss this in public at this point. I will go further and suggest that there is some reason for him to not make it public. I would of course favour a public coalition that would serve to put any elected government in a majority position simply because a majority can act, and a minority cannot. -
Is inflation in the Liberal plan?
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Machjo's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A pipe dream worth hoping for don't you think? Cleaning up the financial corner of the economy would do wonders for our future development. -
Words and actions? I am not sure that Harper would approve of an election based on that because he is a little ways from clean in that respect himself.

Afghanistan is a source of disruption in the same corner of Asia as Korea and China. It seems to me that there is more than what meets the eye there. Wheels within wheels so to speak. I think they are being played as pawns in a much larger game.

A code? Its a little early in the morning for conspiracy theories in my book. Is this sort of like the accusation of hidden agendas?

Deficit Balloons to 101 Billion
Jerry J. Fortin replied to nicky10013's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Minister of Finance is not the government, nor is he the leader of the government and his credibility has far less consequence than that of the Prime Minister. If the Liberals plan on a head hunting expedition and try and take some of the governments ministers on to suggest bad judgment on the part of the Prime Minister in his choices for cabinet members, he will need to be touting alternatives. It seems like a large plan, not what I would have expected. -
It seems that attack politics are the name of the game here as well as in the media. I don't think that its the right way to go at this point.
