  1. Yeah thats right, I heard just the other day that there were millions of citizens lining up to get into the reserves.
  2. I wouldn't bet on Iggy's demise just yet. There is still several innings left in this ball game. Considering that nobody wants an election anyway, there is no real rush to circle the wagons. Iggy needs to play for time. Does anybody think that Iggy did not know that the NDP would not support his motion?
  3. Jacks move was the only one left to him after all the hype about the possibility of an election. The public isn't keen on the idea and Iggy has issues there as well. I am willing to bet that Harper will be the one to call the ball and force an election over some choosen issue. Lets face it, Harper isn't going to go where the NDP wants him to go, so Jack will be screwed over and not get the legislation he wants anyway. This stuff will take longer to cycle through than it will be before the next opportunity for a non-confidence vote.
  4. Sooner or later folks will figure out that independents give them their best shot of being heard in the House of Commons. We need to focus on the smaller picture of who we send to Ottawa instead of what we send to Ottawa. Send someone to voice our concerns instead of parrot a voice partisan concern.
  5. Its an industry(financial) spin to indicate that consumers are responsible for the economy.
  6. I will suggest that floggings are over the top, but that permanent incarceration is not. If a person is a danger to society, then society has a responsibility to remove the threat.
  7. Yes they did, and blew a chance to turf the government last summer.
  8. Clean fuels, as in renewable resources are not exactly what you can expect the current energy corporations to pursue, this is one of those things where the government could do so real good.
  9. I think that the spin is keeping this alive more than the story.
  10. I wouldn't say that either Jack or the NDP suck. I would say that some of their policies do, but their politicians are okay, about what I would say of all the rest of the politicians and parties actually..
  11. Sex offenses are violent crimes and those convicted should never be released from custody.
  12. The money has been well wasted. In addition the debt has been well adjusted.
  13. I agree with the folks that say Layton is making a mistake supporting Harper.
  14. If folks were serious about this will of the people stuff, as in nobody wants an election, then perhaps they should concern themselves with non-partisan candidates accountable only to constituents. If you think about it that is the only way to get the peoples voice instead of the partisan voice to be heard. Otherwise just take your once in a blue moon chance to vote and be happy with what the government and the rest of the House of Commons does.
  15. Just the idea of adding more representatives to slow down an already troubled process is problematic to me. How much does each representative cost us anyway? 120K, 150KK, its not just salaries but benefits as well as pensions, plus office staff, etc.
  16. I understand what I first posted, it was in response to a post by Riverwind. My position has not changed and it is based on reality not some boot licking yes person's concept of what is best for me. By the way MSJ, I think you may find that the Canadian version of a real estate bubble has not yet happened, nor is it likely to happen. Prices don't always go up here, they tend to trend upward but there is usually a little hiccup along the way. So the most common definition of a bubble doesn't seem to apply here.
  17. Alberta's issues stem from expanding infrastructure and improving hospitals and schools. Drive over to Sask. and take a peek for yourself, they are way behind the curve, but there is at least a plan to catch up.
  18. MBT's are Main Battle Tanks. There a lots of them to choose from, and we could use more of them than we have. Deployment is a bitch with those things but the are damned effective as a deterrent and as protection for troops in place. Of course a hand held anti tank missle can cause a lot of grief, but that is another matter.
  19. I understand that demand will go up. I understand that prices will follow. I also understand that home ownership increases net worth, and adds value to the local economy. Which local economy does better? One of owners, or one of renters? The owners are better off are they not?
  20. Under the dippers how many citizens left the province? How much business development was there? How much debt was stacked up? Come now, the NDP was elected because the PC's were literally put in jail! They will not vote Liberal, so they got a hybrid party of used to be liberals and wanna be conservatives to form the government.
  21. The Conservatives have been mismanaging Alberta's revenues for more than three decades. What is your point?
  22. The NDP are ahead of the spend tax dollars as fast as you can get your hands on them, that I will grant you. If these folks are so ahead of their time they should have been recognized as visionaries long ago, and they should be in power now. That of course is not the reality.
  23. Look Riverwind, it isn't to complicated to follow. We can and have learned from American mistakes in the past and we are quite capable of doing so in the future. Lets take this step by step shall we, 1) Primary residences need not be considered taxable unless business was undertaken within the home, we can do that 2)Blaming the entire financial crisis on the US sub-prime issue is a stretch, almost delusional in fact 3)Having the demand for housing go up isn't necessarily a bad thing, even if prices do go up to some degree because there are a lot spin offs that we could surely use, as in a manufacturing sector. 4) I think it is safe to say that a family that gets to deduct interest payments from their taxes would realize a real and tangible benefit that would result in a tax refund of somewhere between 2k to 5K a year for a family. 5) Tax refunds would likely be spend within the marketplace which fuels consumer confidence and strengthens the market. At any rate this move would bring needed tax relief to Canadians raising families. I would never say no to a tax cut, and would of course prefer no income taxes at all, but that would not happen in Canada because there isn't enough politicians with the balls to do it.
  24. I beg to differ, Canadians do care what happens to NATO troops. At least the civilized ones do anyway.
  25. I am advocating slavery? Really? I thought I was advocating putting criminals to work to pay for their crimes. I certainly don;t think that convicted felons need swimming pools and exercise rooms or any manner of the expensive luxury items on their good behavior list that far too many law abiding citizens can't afford. In addition these felons get three squares a day, don't do their own laundry, their own cooking or have to go to work to pay for it all! The bleeding hearts club should volunteer to pay for these felons out of their own pockets, then release them all into their own neighborhoods to the detriment of their own childrens safety.
