What is wrong with "due process"?I prefer due process for every human being in Canada regardless of citizenship.

How and what did it fail???? You can not just say that "the free market did fail" without saying what it failed otherwise nobody can dispute you and nobody can trully understand what you are stating. I am not just playing semantics. Did the free market fail to provide every single non-smoker a place to eat in a smoke-free restaurant? Did the free market fail to provide every single non-smoker a place to eat in a smoke-free restaurant at an affordable dinner price? Did the free market fail to provide every single non-smoker a place to eat in a smoke-free restaurant at a convenient dinner time? Did the free market fail to provide every single non-smoker every single thing that they could ever have wanted??? Did the free market fail to provide every single non-smoker every single thing that they could ever have wanted and more without having to pay for any of it??? Did the free market fail to provide every restaurant owner a sufficient demand of non-smokers to continue to make a living at the previous levels when smoking was permitted? The driver failed to pass. Pass what? The test?? The other driver? The finish line??

Through his black ski-mask, Zarqawi is identified as having beheaded Nick Berg. The following websearch: WHAT WAS NICK BERG DOING IN IRAQ? in any search engine will likely demonstrate that there are A LOT of questions that remain about Zarqawi. The people who believe that there are weapons of mass destruction still to be found in Iraq will likely dismiss everything as conspiracy theory, but that is their right.

The demands are based on treaties -- which we strategically tear up. From the great UN quote-thingy on indigenous rights: Superiority and race are not part of native claims. The claims are based on inheritance. Our objection to their claims are based on diversion tactics and redifining words like "treaty" and "race" and "inheritance" and "society" to suit our side of the argument.

Should we have corporal punishment for adults who commit crimes???

Stop complaining! You guys should be grateful that you do not have any Toronto Maple Refugeefs fans in your city.

"who was found to have" What is that supposed to mean???? Found by whom??? A bunch of bigots spewing out their omniscient knowledge on an internet forum??? or through due process in a court of law??? or through a media trial?? Come on. Legally, "found to" means nothing at best or complete confusion at the worst. Also, refugees and immigrants have completely different citizenship status. Mind you, they do share one thing in common: they are both foreigners. The results of this poll will only be a hodge-podge of misunderstanding.

I believe most Canadians are fully aware of this and prefer things to be this way. I doubt that most Canadians want the full responsibility of deciding everything for themselves. They prefer a little bit of "auto-pilot" that is delegated to a government or a state.

Why must we project our morals and standards on other societies? Alternative economy? Do we even know who currently does commerce with Afghanistan druglords??

The trouble is that the kid is right. The laws have changed to make it so. What leads the kid to developing that attitude? I believe it is a result of them using their parents example to suit their own ends. However, if your parents ever made a mistake so that occasionally you did not fully understand your actions vis-a-vis your corporal punishment (some parents are not prudent when they dish out punishment) you may grow up developing the instinct that the one with the more strength or power can physically control those who do not have the power. If a child feels he is punished unfairly, he WILL NOT learn discipline, he will learn to exert force. Kids immitate their parents (or "care-givers"). I believe that the increase in "minor, cant touch me" attitude governing youth violence is a direct combination of the new laws mixed with kids who learned violence. I believe kids were not born violent. I believe kids learn violence from their surroundings. HOW kids interpret the use of violence is the responsibility of their parents.

In the entire history of mankind, corporal punishment is practically tradition. It is only recently that people are considering the possibility that corporal punishment actually breeds subsequent generations of people who think it must be natural to use violence to settle disputes between eachother.

It is unfortunate that the American military could not capture Zarqawi (or even Saddam Hussein's sons). If Zarqawi's death was worth $25million, he must have contained a wealth of valuable inteliigence that is now silenced.

What about Pravda?

Could "muslims against muslims" accurately categorize this war?Maybe these rivalries are transported when people emigrate from Afghanistan. Maybe they carry on their business in deceptive ways outside of Afghanistan. Maybe they have business partners who are not muslim outside of Afghanistan. Why are our armed forces in Afghanistan again? Of course, when I suggested that the vandalism on the Toronto mosque MIGHT be an inside job (between muslims), it still sounds wacko, right?

Hold on. Can somebody confirm that? My understanding is that we do not allow Nazis because of their actions (i.e., specific actions during WW2 or elsewhere) not on their beliefs. We do not ask immigrants what their political thoughts happen to be, do we?

Immigration Law Must Change
Charles Anthony replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just to summarize the article: It starts by stating that the writer/reporter wanted to find out what the youngsters think about the recent arrests of the 17 terrorist students from their school. Then, it says that the students rarely have the opportunity to voice their opinions because teachers order them never discuss the issues and never to speak to the press. The writer presents observations of "arab" students keeping to themselves in the playground, speaking arabic and other kids avoiding them. Everybody calls their hangout Browntown. The writer also observes other ethnic cliques (blacks, asians and whites) but only Browntown: - has its own name - kids speak a foreign language - kids dress differently - 3 of them where arrested by the RCMP last week The writer quotes Rashid (who refuses to give his last name) says that they almost exclusively speak arabic, the school administration forbids them to speak to journalists and many journalists tried to interview students over the past week. Most muslim or arabic students are the victims of jokes and slurs. People say "Here comes a terrorist!". Rashid doubts that they all mean it entirely. Most muslim students are embarrassed by the arrest of 3 students last week but make a point of stating that those three students were different and out of touch with other muslims. The were learning the Koran and did not look at girls. The muslim students insists that they were bizarre compared to the other muslim students. The writer poetically describes a group of "white" students hanging out normally in the playground. One of the students, Mark, says that Saad Khalid (graduated last year, arrested last week) started to grow a beard and were small round glasses to make him look approximately 35 years old. The students admit to making jokes about muslim students and that the arrests will likely make them continue. At a nearby high school, the students share the opinions of the others. Jonathan is quoted as saying that muslim students are treated with more rights than the other students. They have their own separate prayer spot for Fridays. Whereas, last year a student had his Bible taken away. Tarek Fatah, the chairman of the Canadian Muslim Congress states that it is normal for ethnic youngsters to be the butt end of jokes but he doubts that it will make the bitter or anti-social. He observes that every generation deals with it -- jews and even Quebeckers in the past -- when people are diferent, they attract slurs. The most astonishing this is that the interview youngsters said that recent arrests were never mentioned in class even thought the headlines were everywhere around the world and that the suspects lived right here. "The only thing that the teachers said was to not speak to journalists," quoted a student. Fellow students nearby laugh at this. "The teachers never speak about muslims or of islam. It is as if they did not exist." I am not ready to state what I think about the article yet. I have already stated my opinion on how to modify immigration policy in a different thread. -
Post-Communist MP mocks historic words of John Paul II
Charles Anthony replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
This is not the first time that John Paul II has been mocked. He has been mocked in much more disrespectful manners before. Those who love the late Pope should not be affected by this added mockery in the least. Those who hate the late Pope will never have enough ammunition to tarnish him in the least. Nevertheless, the statement is actually correct. The gay parade will likely change the face of Poland as previous parades have done elsewhere in the world. Homosexuality is not confined to any one nation or race. The sooner everybody gets over it, the better. -
Wait a minute.... let me get my ruler out..... Yes! I just made it. I should be able adjust my member status already!

This board has shifted right....
Charles Anthony replied to crazymf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Here is a question for all of you one-handed politicians: What do you call a person who holds respecting eachother's freedom as a primary virtue? where no other principle can trump mutual respec of freedom? Is that a characteristic of The Right or The Left? Or both? Or neither? Or does it take us to a higher plane? -
Me neither. That is why I often cut into threads with snappy answers and smart-aleck one-liners -- without even thinking. Everybody just figures that I am being a stupid anarchist but actually I am just trying to increase my posting score. You can do the same!

This re-inforces the importance of free speech. It is very important that free speech is held to the extreme otherwise, extremists will never be discovered and bigotry will persist. We must be willing to hear the voices of people who we believe are either wrong or evil to expose them for what they are. Consider the opposite: "Former First Nations leader David Ahenakew does not voice his racist opinion in public but rather teaches it to his children." That sounds like a more distressing situation.
