  1. Along both of the above lines: most immigrants come to Canada primarily because they want peace and freedom -- escaping tyranny of various sorts. I can not say this as a scientific fact, but I would bet that it is only a tiny fraction of a sliver of a minority of immigrants who bring old-country hatreds with them to Canada. Although some do. I believe that Canada will ultimately let in more people who value their freedom to counter any terrorists. However, racism and bigotry does not help and it should be denounced -- whether it is from born-Canadians or immigrants.
  2. That sounds like a challenge to me!I would like to propose an ammendment: POSTING CONTENT All posts must contain some aspect of an argument or attempt to stimulate discussion unless posting for the annoying purpose of being a smart-aleck. Simply posting a URL to an outside source or posting statements that are only one or two sentences long will not be tolerated and the post will be deleted.
  3. Some of these songs have clear anti-English themes and whereas some do not. I can not wait to learn which song is finally chosen.
  4. Ok, explain this strong case...
  5. Hey! I do not get it either! Maybe my intelligence is insulted...
  6. By whose standards?? Hey! I would say it has literary merit, too! It has a nice ring to it. However, I would also describe it as ill-informed, narrow-minded bigotry.
  7. The racism that is repeatedly expressed by a select few bigots on this forum is disgusting. I would like to see an immigration policy exclusively based on merit much like a job or a bank loan application. Points would be awarded to certain responses and the immigration candidate would be matched up to the needs of provinces or cities or even employers. Afterwards, the candidate would be told: "Here are the places that are available to you. Take it or leave it." Once they immigrate, they will be free to move elsewhere, but the tax-payer will not help them. Any mention of the following demographic details would be forbidden: - race - national or ethnic origin - color - religion - age - sex - sexual orientation - marital status - family status - disability - conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted until after the decision to accept or refuse the individual was made. If we are worried about abuse of our immigration policy by people who live on welfare after they immigrate, then cut welfare and cut funding to aiding immigration. We often hear complaints about the injustice of "affirmative action" in the workplace. I would like to apply the same justice to our immigration policy.
  8. I like that!!!!!! In fact, there is no reason why it can not be applied to ALL elections. How could I forget? It would put parasitic bureaucrats out of their jobs. Therefore, by the same logic, our governments are equally (il)legitimate. I agree with that.
  9. You can't justify either one so what is your point? That is part of the point: neither can be justified. The other part of the point is that both are religious-based hatred that is DOMESTIC. Whatever "it" is that breeds Fred Phelps' hatred is domestic and may also be a contributing factor for these Brampton terrorists. Why not ask to halt the immigration of people who share the same demographic origin as Fred Phelps?
  10. "The Archbishop of Pamplona and Tudela, Fernando Sebastian, has said that only a "ridiculous or distorted society" could propose such a law." I agree. The article continues to quote Amnesty International: "saying that humans have yet to see their rights fully guaranteed. A senior member of the Spanish opposition Partido Popular, Arturo Esteban, called the proposal an "act of moral poverty"." It is not just a religious issue for some people but an issue of priorities. CAVEAT: I actually see nothing wrong with the law EXCEPT that I think it is more important to respect human rights first.
  11. Actually, I always thought that it is my warped sense of humor that helps me UNDERSTAND half of the discussions on this forum! -- let alone respond to some of them.
  12. Stop right there. Nobody in this country MUST do anything other than obey the law. Period. Stop the bigotted blame game. Nobody has to speak for anybody else's actions but their own. If the bigotry of other Canadians singles out Muslims and blames them for the actions of other Muslims, then it is the bigots who should start shaping up. What about the Muslims in Canada who mind their own business???? and live peacefully? Why paint everybody with the same brush? Your logic is dangerous. Sorry.
  13. I would add a few more: 4) simply lazy 5) bigotted sense of entitlement 6) kant spel adn cnat tipe
  14. I disagree! I find the ChickenHawk list MUCH better on both counts. It could even stand alone as its own thread. Cheers!
  15. We voted them all in. Politics is one of the few jobs whereby you can apply and be hired with NO RELEVANT experience.
  16. I can imagine a new field of study called "Canadian Social Engineering, Racial Profiling and Bigotry 101" that should be taught in our public schools.
  17. You mean the right to bare arms. I will take a page out of the US propaganda book if you let me. If you are going to take my money (and call it taxation) and spend it on law and order, then make sure we have law and order on the streets. If you are not going to provdie law and order on the streets, then give me back my money and let me protect myself.
  18. I would rather have more armed cops on the street than be the victim of crime.
  19. Maybe "THE LEFT" learned from "THE RIGHT"'s use of 'terror alerts'?
  20. That article from The Gazette also states: "Al O'Brien, chairperson of the panel of economists, said the group didn't set out to benefit or penalize one province or another. He said Canadians believe in the country's equalization system but want to see it fixed." How many people agree? Here is my solution to fixing it: Start treating everybody equally by not playing favorites. Scrap the equalization system entirely.
  21. Muslims attacking muslims... Anybody think there is a chance that these rivalries are transported when they immigrate? Anybody think there is a chance that these rivalries continue in Canada? Anybody think there is a chance that these rivalries continue around Toronto? Anybody think there is a chance of it? Of course, when I suggest that the vandalism on the Toronto mosque MIGHT be an inside job, it sounds wacko, right? Meanwhile, muslims ARE killing muslims in Iraq in front of our very eyes.
  22. It sounds like we agree more on the principles of priority. "We just don't happen to have any disasters for them to relieve at the moment," You are right. We do not have a natural disaster now. My position is that I would always have a domestic reserve ready on guard for the potential disaster BEFORE sending a single force off Canadian soil. We may have that right now, I do not know. In principle, that is my priority. "nor are they needed for domestic defence." I disagree. I would rather bring back every single member of the armed forces and keep them at home to aid in law and order. I would like to elaborate on the role that I believe the military should play domestically to aid in law and order but to be fair, it should be in a different thread. Maybe I will start one. "The caveat being I don't believe there are enough naval resources to secure our coasts" I am not knowledgeable enough to agree or disagree with you (mind you, that never stopped me from voicing an ignoriant opinion before!) so I will take your word for it. "and I believe we should ensure that they receive the resources they need. I would put that priority, and the funding for it, above any foreign missions. But I believe the Conservatives are likely to provide both - though the Liberals clearly did not." We agree.
  23. Bigotry is identifying people as trash. Denouncing an immigration policy is not bigotry. Bigotry is identifying people as the world's trash. The "trash" comment was quoted and identified as bigotry. The denouncement of the immigration policy was not quoted and was not identified as bigotry. In fact, I will take this one step further: People question how it is that these 17 young terrorists could plan such destruction. I do not know the answer. However, those young terrorists came from within our borders and planned their bigotry from within our borders. I do not trust people who would use the term "trash" to identify a racial demographic. I can only speak for myself: I do not feel anybody (immigrant or born-here) is entitled to much. That is a good question. I will not say whether I feel that or not because it should be in a separate thread. I would enjoy discussing my views on citizenship and immigration. Here is a hint: I believe in equality of human rights. Yes, you are. However, once people are identified as "trash" other people are identified as a bigots.
  24. There is nothing wrong with her position. Many parents of different cultures have the same objections.Well, maybe. What do you mean by "maybe"? I am curious to understand when parents would NOT have the right to such an informed choice. Please explain the "maybe" cases. Indeed. It also makes for strange questioning of who should have rights and who should not. I would bet that you are right. The Left would likely laugh at her and humiliate her and call her a bible-thumper and even deny her the right to complain much like the wife of the ringleader, Qayyum Jama's wife's right to complain is questioned. I agree. However, both women's rights to complain to a school board are equal rights. Oh, yeah, nobody has any rights except for those "rights granted by society", I forgot!
