Wisconsin's "White Privilege" Wristbands
Canuckistani replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yep, that's it. So some poor white kid is supposed to feel guilty about his privilege, while the black rich kid can play the victim. Of course it's about rich vs poor. If programs that address poverty benefit a particular group more because more of them are poor, then great. But don't make it about race. We have the same bs happening in Canada with Indigenous People - don't have special programs for IPs, have programs that deal with poverty no matter what somebody's race. Anything else is just racist. -
Wisconsin's "White Privilege" Wristbands
Canuckistani replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Make em wear green wrist bands if their parents and in the top 20% of earners. That will sort out who's privieged and not. I've always heard the term applied to males. Why aren't they making boys wear a blue band for male privilege? -
Yep. Apparently all 1.2 billion Catholics hate the bible and God, since they, or their church at least, have no problem with evolution.

1 thing ID people hate: saying how it works.

How does Intelligent Design work?
Canuckistani replied to Canuckistani's topic in Religion & Politics
How does Intelligent Design work, Betsy? How do new species appear on earth? -
You're discussing about science-related subjects. You have failed to establish any credibility on the matter what so ever. You've got some nerve.
-
So species just drop fully formed from the sky? Does God put us all asleep while this happens? You need to explain how Intelligent Design works. I gave you the opportunity in my How does Intelligent Design work post, but you turned tail because you can't. How do new species arrive on earth when the intelligent designer makes them? When God created the eye (apparently thought to complex by ID folks to have evolved) how and when did God distribute all the animals with eyes on the planet?

Flaherty influcencing financial lenders/markets.

Just make sure the buyer puts up a hefty down payment and it's all good. In fact I doubt if they're givign these mortgages to people getting in by the skin of their teeth anyway. -

Nice copout. I want to know how you believe it works. How do new species appear on the earth? You must have a belief about it, since you promote it so vigorously. So what is it? -
Your post has a better title.

What I read is Trudea has been working behind the scenes to organize for a long time - this wasn't a flash in the pan. You may be letting your hatred of the old man cloud your vision here. Maybe he's got more on the ball than you give him credit for. As for not taking firm positions on policies - everybody tries to avoid that because then you can be attacked. Being a blank screen on which voters can project their hopes is the best policy if you can get away with it. We can't handle the truth, would rather our leaders sing us sweet lullabyes.

It's a box with what looks like an arrow in it to me. Click it and all the editiding feature bars disappear. I think I did what Greg said, but it's not working. However I just edited your comment, even with editing features enabled, so I don't know what's going on here.

Canuckistani replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Lowering credit card interest will just encourage people to pile on even more debt. Anybody that carries credit card interest is an idiot. I don't agree with Flaherty discouraging low mortgage rates, just do what he's already done - tighten up requirements to get that mortgage. If the bank thinks it can make money on a low rate, no harm done as long as the borrowers are solid. I'm sure to get this rate you would have had to make a substantial downpayment. -
Trudeau is certainly a good organizer. And it seems people underestimate him, look at his boxing win. This comment shows he's got a sense of humor too - I like it. Once he's elected leader, then it's time for him to prove that he could lead the country. He's got lots of time to do that.

Tried that. clicked the arrow and tried to edit your quote, but response was exactly the same. Quote box disappears, but edit does not take place

0% under 20k, 6% up to 100k, 10% over 100k. Germans aren't going to pay to bail out Russian oligarchs and gangsters (or is that redundant?) Now Cyprus is going cap in hand to Russia. Let them sink. Germans can't keep bailing out all these countries.

How does Intelligent Design work?
Canuckistani replied to Canuckistani's topic in Religion & Politics
Nice dodge. Surely we're not talking about human intelligent design here. How does what is normally understood as intelligent design work? How does this design get put into the world. You won't get trapped into saying how that happens because you know your answer can easily be shot down. All we've seen on this forum are attacks on evolution with no stand taken on how the alternative is supposed to work. The theory of evoltution at least has plausible explanations behind it. -
How does Intelligent Design work?
Canuckistani replied to Canuckistani's topic in Religion & Politics
Not at all. What I forbade is just linking to somebody else's explanation. I want people to put it in their own words. Just the broad idea of how it actually works. You know, like evolution is the change in the genome caused by environmental factors. If you feel the mechanisms are too numerous to list, give a few examples, if that works better for you. But surely there is some underlying mechanism beneath it all - ie a causitive agent that brings forth new species. What the basic process of that? How does research on gene sequences show the action of intelligent design? Domesticated animals change by human intervention in their breeding. How does intelligent design accomplish the same thing? If there is no evolution, how does intelligent design bring forth new species holus bolus? Again, the basic idea of evolution is pretty simple. The environment and/or sexual reproduction brings forth changes in the genotype that are better adapted to that environment and thus have higher reproductive success. How is this different than ID? -

Care to be more specific? Who and how is the environment manipulated? What is the mechanism that changes a species in response to evironmental change - I know that as evolution. Biological interactions? What are those and how do they work? Genetic manipulation - like mutation? How does this manipulation come about? -
But I think the question if not the people, who, is a good one. Sure, hold the govt accountable, as in elect somebody else. But the govt has no money, that's the people's money they're administrating. If the country wants a bailout from other countries, then the country, ie the people, have to dance to that tune. There's nobody else there to dance with. Ofcourse I would suggest that Cyprus give Russian mobster depositors a close shave before going after the little guys. But as we've seen in the US, the big guys always seem to do just fine, it's the little guy who winds up holding the can. You don't like that, vote for govts that are more pro little guy.

Obviously this is aimed at Betsy. But for anybody, how does it work? Please no links, no freaking videos. Just explain how it works in your own words. When were humans designed and placed on earth in relation to the age of the earth and how was it done? Why do we have archaic structures like the appendix? It seems our eyes are not an optimal design, why not?
-
If new species don't evolve, how do they get to be? Betsy admits the earth is what she called "older". Presumably that means she agrees that there were species living on the earth that aren't now, and there are species now living on the earth that didn't when the earth was "younger." So how do these new species come about? Does a big hand come down from the sky and drop them off? Why has nobody seen this? How does creationism without evolution work? I can see believing in creationism starting off the formatin of life, There's certainly no way to disprove that. But after that, it seems to me, evolution would have to run its course. The eye is held up by anti-evolutionists as a structure too complex to have evolved. So again, does one day God just drop off organisms with eyes all over the world. Also, Betsy says we are evidence of a designer. The eye is evidence of a very poor designer. Having the optic nerve run thru the center of the retina, so we have a blind spot - not a good design. Designing the eye so that it sees the world out of clear focus, and having our brains compensate by making us think we're seeing a clear image - not a good design. Same with the brain - it's a Rube Goldberg assembly of structures. This is actually evidence of evolution, since evolution can't work backwards to clean up mistakes, but can only build on what's already there. Gaaaaaaaaa, all of life is like Windows, Bill Gates is God. The horror.

I'm glad you agree then. The bible just provides as summary, without details. So, God allowed humans to evolve much later than other animals. The bible didn't get into details, just has us created from mud, but what the bible/God meant by mud is the primordial soup. Ie we evolved out of the materials already persent on hand. I mean surely a big hand didn't come out of the sky 200.000 years ago and patted some mud together, breathed on it and bada bing, up springs Adaam. And if you follow that story literallly, then we're all descendants of incest, since either we're all descended from Adam and Eve - ie brother and sister incest, or we're descened from incest between Eve and her sons. She also must have been a very very busy little breeder, since by the time Cain was old enough to kill Abel, there were already all sorts of people about that Cain was worried would kill him. Or did got have a little mud to human factory going somewhere? If so, why doesn't the bible mention that? But as you say, the bible is just a framework of creation without details. Science is providing the details, and the way humans came about was by evolution. It's nice when we can agree like that.

Maybe they could get away with that in Cyprus. If the US had done that with their banks, world credit would have frozen and goodbye economic activity. The banks should have been nationalized in the short term.

Yep, and it seems we all enjoy playing along. She should get an award.
