  1. You don't? Everybody else seems to, since they all use it, including the media. Even those feeling aggrieved are using the term, or seem to understand that it applies to them. A hint might be that Clarke wanted to apologize for the head tax and Komagatu Maru incident, pick up some "quick wins" by doing so. And the groups being pandered to seemed to have no problem with it, just that the pandering should be more sincere. That they'll still be respected in the morning. The ethnic vote is any ethnic group that has large numbers voting as a bloc and that votes how their community leaders tell them to vote. Also the people who register en masse for leadership conventions, often having their membership dues paid for them. A politician of a specific ethnicity who says they want to get elected to represent their "community" would be going for he ethnic vote, unless s/he's white, in which ase s/he'd be going to oblivion at best. I believe they also wanted to apologize to First Nations. I'm not sure if they are deemed ethnics, since they are not deemed visible minority. (A lovely Canadian term that the UN has told us to stop using as they deem it racist. And there we were just trying to be nice and all). They're a minority, and they're visible, but I guess they have super victim status, so to call them the ethnic vote is depriving them.
  2. I agree. Your post is totally absurd. From the list of fallacious arguments, you seem to have partaken freely. Red herrings, strawmen, reductio ad absurdum....
  3. I think it's more racism than just pomposity. Jews good, Muslims bad, even when they want the same thing.
  4. I was responding to this comment: divorce and inheritance. AFAIK, that's what the rabbinical courts also covered. I don't agree with having any of these religious courts.
  5. What about Quebec? We need to get rid of all this religous stuff in our public system. No more funding for religious schools. No exemptions for Sikhs from motorcycle helmet and hardhat rules. Etc.
  6. Really? Didn't you say yourself one tried to run you down. Then there was the case of the Hassids pushign to have the windows of the YWCA covered up - thankfully reversed. Or of wanting to run special buses that conflict with the law - thankfully not allowed. Then take a look at Israel and how much the Hassids push people around, harrass women etc. One law for all. Or if you make expemptions for one group, you make it for all.
  7. Sure. And the 6 ex Mossad leaders see Jewish religious extremism as the greatest threat to Israel. The proposal is to allow civil disputes to be settled by Sharia law in the west. I'm against it, I think one law for all. But we can't offer this privilege to the Hassidim, but tell Muslims they can't have it.
  8. So you're seriously proposing we allow one group their archaic laws on diviorce and inheritance, but not another.
  9. Nice red herring, enjoy your lunch. Or read the above posts.
  10. We already have the same thing for Orthodox Jews. Seems discriminatory to not allow it for Muslims. Either for all, or for none.
  11. I think the Ghetto Rebels are looking for some attention and it was a slow news day.
  12. I had a '67 Chevelle. One of my favorite cars. Only a 283, but because the car is light it was pretty quick, handled well, just all around fun to drive. Novas were too small, Impalas too big. I really like those rear little wings by the window - copied from Ferrari I believe.
  13. We don't need no education, we don't need no healthcare too. No police or firemen, what have they ever done for you? Hey, premier, leave the tax alone.
  14. I doubt there's a human being who hasn't wondered about what happens after death. And that really seems to be religion's job - to give us some meaning to life and death besides being little biorobots whose only reason for being to make more biorobots. I doubt too many people have approached death totally equanimous with the idea that this it it, the end. Easier to say you believe that when the end is not so near. The old no atheists in foxholes idea. And of course most people would hope that if they somehow continue after their body dies, the experience will be better than in this life. It's where the God of many Christians is truly a monster, consigning most people to an eternity of torment. What kind of being does that?
  15. No, in that case she's either incomepetent or just a puppet on somebody else's string. Probably both.
  16. It is. No to the first one, if you don't distribute it. Not sure about the second, depends how it's distributed, i would guess. Definitely yes to the third - kids have been charged for sending pics of themselves, I believe. Pedophiles that use materials that involved the harming of children should be imprisoned.
  17. You're kidding right? Her deputy chief of staff takes the fall, but you're not seriously proposing that Crispie Clark didn't know about this and sign off on it? Not i in writing of course, this govt somehow managed to fire the last chief of staff for a sexual indiscretion without putting one word to paper. Amazing, there's no record at all.
  18. So Harper had an idiot for a campaign manager in 2004? What does that say about Harper? It is a pretty big deal, but I don't say his views on child porn represent the CPC.
  19. He's been saying this for quite some time apparently. Wonder why it's only a big deal now?
  20. The bible has always been a political document. OT stuff about why it was right for the Israelis to holocaust the Caananites - because God told them to - is just politica excuse making. The Gospels match the times they were written in, with John being much more anti Jewish because by that time the Jews were persectuing the Christians. The council of Nicea accepting only the 4 gospels out of the hundreds that exist, because they matched the aims of the council. Etc.
  21. I have no great love for Harper and his crowd, but they did raise the age of consent, for which I give them props.
  22. I thought section 13 of the human rights act was repealed?
  23. Well, she's always backed them up with science. And God's word of course - how can you doubt that?
  24. And now we have proposals coming from the black community in TO to start Afro-centric schools. Will it go round in circles?
