Give away all that you have and follow me. That's a good test for anybody claiming to be following the teachings of Christ. And that thing about the log in their own eye, instead of worrying if two men are having sex, another good one.

The reformatin led to protestantism. Those are the folks that were burning witches in the US and some are still spouting hate today. Also the folks that seem to be pushing for less separation between church and state.

You're serious - you're claiming Repubs have not made far more extreme statements about Obama?

Nope, it's tenets of Christianity itself that gave rise to the elightenment. Worth of the individual for instance. It's more complicated than you're making out to be. But @ Michael. Anti-semitism has it's roots in Christianity, and the Inquisition was torturing and murdering Jews same as Nazism. It held Christianity to be superior, so to some degree AC has a point. Thing is the church reformed itself.

Never had to use any keys/code before. And, I just edited your quote and it seems to be working OK

Wow, that's a lot of people who have broken away from Christ thruout the years. Including entire churches following official anti-Christ policies. Or entire sects just rife with homophobic hate. Seems there's a lot fewer Christians in the world than originally thought. Very few indeed that gave away everthing they own and follow Christ. But really Christianity is no different than Islam in that regard. Many Muslims don't absolutely follow the word of the prophet. You'd think the 5 real Christians and 3 real Muslims could get together and make peace. Maybe they do, and we don't hear about it.

I tried editing a quote from someone for brevity, and it made a right mess. Didn't show who the quote was from or even put it in a quote box.

Doubt that happesn very often, at least with larger amounts. Or it, it would be "Ahm, sendin y'all a big fat anonymous check. Don't forget me now when it comes time to vote on that bill, y'hear." That, I can see happening all the time.

Duh. The pol getting the donation knows who it's from, it's the public that's not informed. Nobody is going to give a pol a big cheque completely anonymously just because they love him/her so much.

Edit: George Soros is a "middle of the road activist"? An activist is not middle of the road anything. Soros is an extremist based on his actions and the millions he throws around. Martin Luther King - extremist? So only the inactive are not extreme? What is Soros an extremist for or against?

The Unnanounced Class War

Sure, they're the ones that legally bribe the politicians. Where are the millionaire US politicians? Sitting smug in the pockets of the billionaires. -

Since he's young, a former teacher and an MP, I can see how he'd be a draw for them. Doubt he held a gun to anybody's head. Is he the only one who has earnings on the side as an MP?

Religious orgs should not be able to treat proseletysing as charity. No tax deductions and pay taxes on the funds used for it. Also church property should be taxed, same as any other.

Why aren't we building more pipelines right NOW?

He knew that actually following the treaty would be economic suicide for Canada. He had no intention of following thru, just did it for the publicity. -
Canadian Terrorists: Who Are They?
Canuckistani replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Certainly way off topic of the OP, since it points out that "religious identity actually protects against violent radicalization," and And if these radicals didn't have religion to rally around it would be something like communism or whatever else is against the current order. It's said that 2nd gen immigrants become more interested in their original homeland again, as they seek to rediscover their roots. Most do this peacefully, but a few, it seems, do it by becoming radicalized.- 111 replies

Canadian Terrorists: Who Are They?
Canuckistani replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Presumably this is sarcasm. So who does burn holy books on your driveway every day, or even once? How many bibles have Muslims burned? Actually, re reading your comment, nobody's burning bibles. So maybe they're burining Korans. We know those would not be Muslims, so what group is so angry it's trying to incite the Muslims by burining their holy book?- 111 replies

I don't know why we rely on any aid, government or private, since we all know that poor people just choose to be poor. Why interfere, just let them make their choices. All they need to do is get an education or skill, and they'd be set. No more poor, except those who choose to work at McD's or clean toilets and such. If that's what they like, let em have it.

If you get carried away doing those corrections, you start looking mighty zealous. The religious would say the same about what someone like Dawkins might claim about religion - ie he sets up strawmen. It's one thing to react when the religious try to impose their views on say the school system. It's another if a person feels bound to argue with them about their beliefs for no real reason.

Which is where they go off the rails and since they practice this anti-religiosity religiously, they are accused of having a religion. So the question isn't "is atheism a religion", it clearly isn't, but is anti-religiosity a religion? Atheists coming together by what they are not, surrounded by hostile or dominant majorities, we can all understand that. It sounds so...Canadian.
