Governing Without a Plurality of Seats
blueblood replied to ToadBrother's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If the election is as close as ur saying, harper is toast. Either immediately in a loss or soon after in a minority win. Given the latest economic numbers harper is in a lot of trouble. If the cpc tried to hold onto power as you say, they would be decimated at the polls the next go round, warchest or not. Either way harper should be looking at a new place to live very soon. As chretien found out the hard way, elected leaders have an expiry date... -
But is it necessary for houses to be priced like that? If housing is too stupidly priced then they can suck it up and rent
-
Its not "right wing economics". Its the way things go. The lefty experiment HAS failed. The usa went through depressions and recessions before and still remains. Far better than venezuela and the former ussr. THAT is a failure. The only "failure" is people that dont get off their ass to take responsibility for their actions which results in poverty
-
But once again people are still stupid enough to fork over the dough with huge mortgages. Let the houses sit and the demand dry up. Why is it up to leadership? Are people too stupid to manage money?
-
As for the spelling and grammar idgaf. Deal with it. As for the rest, co2 levels were significantly higher and lower at early points in earths history. The earth has a way of balancing itself out. The earth is still here... heres an idea, you put your money is and live in a cabin in the woods without power and practice what you preach and come back and tell us how that works for you. Because thats essentially what you guys are advocating canada do in spite of countries such as china, india, and the usa keep on rolling. Theres no crisis.
-
It doesnt matter. Right now fossil fuels are the most efficient method of energy. The oil companies are developing new energy as they dont want to be left in the dark and the funding for that research comes from the oil in the ground. As for destroying the environment, the oul sands companies have to reclaim the land when done and which has been discussed ad nauseum is china and india burning tonnes of coal which is significantly worse. Also dont underestimate himans ingenuity and resoursefulness. Carbon levels have fluctuated throughout the course of history of the earth and have seen much higher levels than now.

The problem with rising housing vs rising incomes is the blatant stupidity of a lot of the population. Houses used to be smaller and were fine, but a lot of stupid entitled people decide to take out huge mortgages and drive up the housing market on debt. Rich people didnt cause that. 400,000 dollar homes on the prairies on a 50,000 salary? I mean c'mon man!! No wonder wealth is under attack. Instead of blaming and hating rich people, people need to take some reaponsibility and save their money

All brad wall does is balance budgets and is far more likeable than harper is. Sk is still the best managed province in canada in spite if oil going in the toilet. All politicians are full of it.
-
Which is why oil companies also invest in alt energy. The last thing they want to do is milk a dry cow. Dont worry, some nee form of energy will be invented. Heck we've kicked whale oil and the whales thank us.
-
Would you rather a "nice" conservative a la Brad Wall?
-
Why should they be shut down?

Its not the deficits as much as negative gdp growth. Canadians hate the r word more than the d word. Harper in theory right now has the deficit part figured out. But if canada is in technical recession, its all over but the crying for the cpc. Harper is done after this election. Even if a majority cpc were to happen, harper would be served his walking papers.
-
I agree. Negative gdp numbers and mulcair is on easy street to 24 sussex.
-
I wouldnt say its looking good for them. Its hard to win hearts and minds by playing defence and scare mongering. Harper needs to have positive gdp numbers and get back to laying out ideas of why he needs to be re elected such as balanced budgets, good management, and tax relief.

They had to tighten up the rules as rock bottom interest rates (which started this mess in the usa) were inticing people here to make stupid decisions in regards to their homes. When the tories made loosened up those rules in 2006 they mistakenly looked at a "booming" housing market and wanted in on the action not seeing the forest for the trees. I would say catching a mistake makes before it gets too bad is pretty good management to me. At least they quickly put a stop to that! Sadly canadians are quite indebted these days... One important regulation that has been around for ever is that canadians cant walk away from mortgages and are on the hook to pay them.

Hmm seems in guard doesnt want to comment on flaherty tightening up the mortgage rules which he claims the only the liberals had strict banking rules

Hmm swanky hotels, lots of stuff to buy. Sounds like fun!! Enjoy living in the woods and using the outhouse! -
How about no. Screwing over the russian economy has already worked. See the USSR anymore? The west has folded one regime from that backwater, whats a second? Plus they didnt have to use soldiers!

All right there sunshine, put your money where your mouth is and live in a cabin in the woods off the grid so that your not doing your share of global warming. Doesnt sound like a good time? Maybe thats why the tories arent going to throw a wrench into the economy so we can have our standard of living reduced. -

As for banking regs, i remember flaherty making a big deal to tell people in canada not to over leverage themselves.http://www.financialpost.com/m/wp/blog.html?b=business.financialpost.com//personal-finance/mortgages-real-estate/ottawa-cuts-mortgage-amortizations-to-25-years

Link for the subsidy. Good for you for employing some people to do renos. You yourseldf are helping people much better and much more efficiently than governent. Shouldnt you get some kind of relief for doing so? People and organizations that employ others are far more useful to society than people that don't as they are helping others by providing jobs and a product/service that others want/need whereas someone who doesnt employ others just helps themselves.
