LPC Campaign Co-Chair Advises TransCanada
blueblood replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To extend that further, say the liberals win a minority, the then harperless tories have an election issue when the next lib govt loses confidence as by then an investigation will be completed (providing any wrong doing of course)- 203 replies

I dont think the cpc will pull it out (as much as i want them to). Not enough time to draw up an attack ad or have a formal investigation started. Im pretty sure an official saying an investigation is starting in the middle of a campaign would be devestating.- 203 replies

The timing is not good for a sea change. Unless a high ranking official says an investigation is immediately started, the libs essentially win. I dont want the libs to win, but thats tea leaves.- 203 replies

Not enough time to change the polls around and i dont think too many people are paying attention as the electorate is pretty much decided.- 203 replies

And how long should that debate take? Theres a line between talking about the issues and nothing getting done. That is the advantage of a majority parliament.- 203 replies

Bloc could hold balance of power in a hung parliament:
blueblood replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The article says that alcohol consumption went down. Which is a net win to society. And yes i do think people will make the jump to cocaine as there is a segment of the population that consumes narcotics for the fact that they are illegal. Rather chase a somewhat harmless drug then one more dangerous imo. Im saying that booze consumption went down and possibly marijuana consumption will rise as its legal as there is a different segment of society that obeys the law. I like to see less mind altering things on the street. Its not about people completely stopping doing something as there will always be people for whatever reason that smoke cigarettes. Consumption of liquor was down as a result of prohibition and extrapolating that result suggests that marijuana use will rise which isnt a win either. Having hard drugs criminalized as shown by the study i provided on prohibition shows that consumption went down. China went to war with england because of opium initially being legal but over time their country became full of addicts and their economy was in shambles. It might not be nice to throw people in jail, but thats one tool to deter a significant segment of the population from engaging in drug use. -
Any politician will "game" the system. If people want to elect a minority govt, thats a consequence

Yes a lot of people smoke marihuana. I would rather that be the drug the cops are chasing around rather than progressing the next step up. - cocaine. Although not as harmful as cocaine and booze, it still isnt healthy. Also one has to go by metrics of how successful prohibition is. For example people say alcohol probibition was a failure. Well it did get repealed, but there are some interesting stats regarding the success of prohibition. http://www.nytimes.com/1989/10/16/opinion/actually-prohibition-was-a-success.html In my opinion it is better to have consumption of all mind altering drugs down (booze included) as it is an expense to health care. The way to keep money out of the hands of organized crime is to kill demand for vice's. And that happens when society deems said vice as taboo. Pot isnt deemed taboo. Ill ask you this, should cocaine, ecstacy, heroin be legal as organized crime makes a lot of money off of that? -

Justin had better hope the chinese economy fires back up and demand increases for our exports otherwise interest rates will have to go up -

The drug policy is where we disagree. The opium war was essentially fought because of a country full of zombies. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. The problem with crime policy is that what is deemed as reasonable is wide open to interpretation. The tory policy essentially leaves me far better off -

Of other countries want to be fools about making energy more expensive they can have at it. At the end of the day the prospect of freezing in the dark is a bigger priority than carbon taxes. The futures market already puts a price on carbon and quite efficiently i might add. The tories addressed the savings issue with reversing their mortgage policies and by introducing the tfsas and doubling it. That being said, if people are too stupid to save their money, thats their problem, not society's. -

Id say the trade deals, the wheat board, and the tfsas are hardly do nothing. If the liberals were to get the pipelines built, i would consider that a major accomplishment.- 203 replies

Whats wrong with the social platform? -
Nope!! Conservatism is a tough message to sell as a lot of it is saying no which as you know people are less receptive to than saying yes. To have a fool like rob ford doing his thing and turning off potential voters to what the tory party is selling is beyond frustrating. Take a look at some clips of how brad wall presents himself and then rob ford and you will see where im coming from

So we can have a do nothing parliament? I like a parliament that gets things done and doesnt get mired in debate. Even though i dont agree with the liberals, maybe a majority for them would result in things getting done such as the energy east pipeline. How about if the party in power blows it, they can be shown the door come election time.- 203 replies

Its still the liberals right now that will win it. I would be shocked if the tories pulled it out and im on team blue. I cant explain it, the momentum "feels" like it belongs to the liberals.
-
That was a very interesting listen. What remains to be seen is if the liberals are strict about how much they go over the deficit. In a way the tories have the libs painted into a corner long term. The tories kept their promise about slaying the deficit. Now the liberals have to keep theirs. 4 years for the tories to groom a new leader, hopefully with not the same crappy branding as harper.

I agree. Unfortunately a lot of people are clueless as to use debt in a responsible manner hence why you guys in bc have a housing gong show, vehicles are priced at what they are, etc. Canada has had its knuckles rapped by the bond vultures already over spending gone out of control. Out of control spending starts with small deficits and govts unlike households can kick the can down the road. If anything govts should be more inclined to follow a budget. Canadians had to live with the gst being implemented, i would hate to see tax increases especially when they have been coming down. But try to convince urban people that high taxes are not the way to go when they are used to have their garbage being collected.
