  1. That was a typo at the end. Its shouldnt. Ill edit
  2. Having a prominent cabinet member in the GTA so that the gta is represented and possibly vote tories in the future. However the polls are saying otherwise.
  3. Lol. There are quite a few canadians who want lower taxes and what does get taxed to be spent wisely. Sometimes govts change over that. PMPM thought it necessary to lower taxes.
  4. Im no LPC fan, but its not like theres money in brown envelopes floating around...
  5. That has to be up to people themselves to make having a child more atteactive. The new houses i see going up in saskatoon, regina, and winnipeg are far bigger than my house and the one i grew up in. One has to wonder, is that really necesary based on avg income. Society cant afford daycare as it is right now. The problem with a lot of people is that they want and want and want and dont take very much responsibility. Take those who smoke cigarettes; society has to pay a fortune to keep up with their health problems. Imo the problem with society is that no one wants to take responsibility. Its like the 2008 housing crash. People went around solely blaming bankers for what happened. Yeah the bankers shouldnt have been loaning money willy nilly, but people should not be asking for those kind of loans they cant afford in the first place.
  6. Thats also a result of the low interest shopping spree canadians are on right now. Things are at a point where both spouses have to work just to get bills paid as people are going crazy inflating the housing market and the rapid rise of auto prices. A proper run daycare program would be very expensive and the fact that some people pay close to 50% of what they make in taxes is going to push some people to a breaking point. However try selling that message that if one wants kiddies, maybe having a massive house in the city, expensive vehicles, trips south, and other luxuries might have to take a backseat so either mom or dad can stay home and take care of the kids which is far more efficient and cheaper than having govt run daycare.
  7. Your also forgetting to mention that it is still putting the BQ to irrelevancy. Quebecers are starting to see its better to be on the winning team rather than on some protest party with hopes of holding up parliament in exchange for demands. Which is good for national unity as now both liberals and tories know to take care if the regions if they want majority govts.
  8. I like my taxes low so that they should be going to things such as infrastructure, policing, trade deals, and not the cbc, daycare, and excessive social assistance. I however am greedy lol
  9. Thats the voters problem for electing the mps they do. When the throne speech and budget are passed, the pm typically has confidence of parliament. They cant prorogue parliament forever as the GG sets the stipulations as toadbrother stated. Chretiens liberals "prorogued" parliament as well. Thats the system we have - we elect mps to in theory do out bidding. In my opinion it should be MPs deciding who the prime minister in parliament and party leaders rather than being the party leader as determined by caucus of party hacks. That would in theory give more power to the mps as a check and balance to the pmo and behind the scenes party hacks.
  10. The problem is that people have concocted all sorts of wishes for govt services that could be done by the private sector. Why do we need to spend 1 billion ish on the cbc for example. Id rather that money go into infrastructure as well as the child tax credit. But people want more and more and more. And both lpc and cpc are guilty of this. In the early 2000s with the budget surpluses those projects could have been done with that. Saskatchewan has been financing a lot of infrastructure and maintaining balanced budgets.
  11. I understand deficit financing when necessary, however to me its a matter of principle as taking a small deficit is quite possibly the slippery slope to more deficits. Remember in the 50s and 60s canadas finances were outstanding and our country was prosperous and doing well. Then trudeau sr and the liberals started the debt madness and mulroney added to it and had to make huge debt servicing costs. I dont want to go back to that again which is why i think keeping the govt on a balanced budget is necessary as it draws a line. Canada has gone through the bond vultures and they pretty much told the chretien liberals to get their shit together. I honestly dont think that the stimulus package got us through the recession as much as it was being lucky enough to have good prices for resourse exports and using that to ride out the storm. I would wonder if the stumulus package was even necessary...
  12. I dont know much about toronto politics but apparently rob being a crackhead did somewhat of a competant job with cutting spending and cutting taxes. I may be wrong. Either way rib is still toxic as he is a blowhard and a crackhead. What small c conservatives have to realize is that there is a proper way of comminicating principles of conservatism that arent scary and do make sense. Once again refer to brad wall of sk. His only skeleton as i know was teaching his young daughter to drive before she was 15. Ooooh!!
  13. It will have to be because the tories new leader can hang that over trudeaus head. I.E the tories just balanced the budget and are campaigning on lower taxes consistently. The tories can say, we gave trudeau a balanced budget and he promised a balanced budget in 4 yrs. pretty good election issue in 4 yrs imo.
  14. People that lived through the 80s learned that lesson the hard way. Its always better to reduce the debt. Maybe there are some things that we just cant afford... However try telling a lot of canadians that especially when they think they can afford their 500k house on 60k per year along with gadgets, vaycay, and vehicles...
  15. They are radioactive. Thats when tory brass has to say to them to disappear.
  16. I dont like progress being taxed. Oil companies will logically make the transition as they have the resources to do so. The big oil companies will invest in future tech so that they dont go down the tubes when a cleaner more efficient form of energy is discovered. Just like whale oil was replaced with petroleum after being used for a long period of time. For example, i live out in the country and lacked broadband internet access for a long time. It wasnt the govt that provided it to me, it was rogers and mts popping up a 3G cell phone tower. The ability of private industry to finance things is quite amazing And efficient.
  17. I dont agree with a carbon tax as the futures market already puts a price on carbon. 140 dollar oil was what put the kibosh on hummers and boosted production on fuel efficient vehicles. However 140 dollar oil also contributed to the usa exonomic problems. Plus also with royalties the provinces also collect a "carbon tax". The world will get off of hydrocarbons at some point and it will be the oil and gas companies that make that transition as they will have the funds to do research and implimentation.
  18. The libs wont close off the taps. Its in their interests to have these companies doing well which means an increase of tax revenue. It wont be as good for the energy sector as under the tories. Hopefully the energy sector can get some clarity when the libs are sworn in on how things are going to go.
  19. Im actually happy this got leaked as it shows this version of the lpc to be somewhat business friendly. Any pipeline is a good one as it allows us to get resources to market more efficiently.
  20. Its branding. The pmpm liberals were competant and people wanting change the red tories just went there.
  21. They dont have to agree, the ndp can just conveniently have not enough people ahow up to vote like the linerals did.
  22. No specifically dions. You could see the tide turning, especially when bob fife says that dion got "the chat". Dions never really got going
  23. Its 10 yrs and people wanted change. You can just tell by watching the news etc. it feels like dions campaign.
  24. Nope, harper is feeling what dion had to go through in 2008. Its done.
  25. Rosetta stone anyone?
