You miss the point. The ROC knows your buttons. (Quebecers are different.) Geez. Shoot, if the Liberals want landslide majorities maybe they shouldn't push them. The ROC knows Quebec's buttons too, heaven forbid we should push them. That's quite a double standard coming up, it's ok to piss off Alberta and not Quebec???
-
Are you Albertans all so easy to con? Do you all react on cue so easily? If so, you're the famous suckers born every minute.Somebody posts with "Quebec" and "nationalization" and "oil", and you guys go nuts. No wonder the rest of Canada keeps pulling the football from under your foot. Rubes. The trick in life is to be sincere - and if you can fake that, you've got it made. I'm debating a hypothetical situation. What are we being conned out of? The LPOC tried conning the Albertans out of their oil, and paid for it at the ballot box. I'd rather be conned into a debate educating left wingers on the evils of nationalization than being conned into borderline communism. We have our things that make us go nuts, for Quebecers it's Reasonable Accomodation, defending Bill 101, culture, their equalization payments they're "entitled" to

Then why not let the gov't of Canada pop up some oil rigs and compete with the private boys. Your idea is bloody communism, and there goes any foreign investment opportunities in Canada, therefore making us poorer. Take a look at the Republic of Ireland, they manage a much better ship than we do. By nationalizing the oil industry to give Quebec some cheap oil means that the workers are going to have to take a big paycut in order for the industry to pay for itself. Then who wants to work on a godforsaken oil rig for craptacular pay? Quebec is basically all gov't jobs and look how wealthy it is 56 out of 60 provinces/states in North America, A JOKE!!! Saskatchewan has tried this and only now have they got their industry online because they opened it up to private investment. Hate the big boys all you want, but they provide the dollars to get things rolling, dollars the government doesn't have. What happens when oil runs out, the gov't of Canada is caught with it's pants down, mark my words when this happens in Venezuela, the crap will hit the fan. Also the private boys have profit margins to maintain, the smaller the company the tighter the profit margins, the tighter the profit margin the more efficient the company has to be, with the gov't of Canada means that the oil industry will be running one inefficient outfit, plus they will want to unionize which makes things even worse. The Soviet Union nationalised all of the farmland and it destroyed their agriculture economy, even now they cannot compete with Canadian farmers. Nationalization is a recipe for economic disaster. Geoffery being in an actual economics class or two could probably elaborate much better than me on this issue. If people in Quebec and the ROC want a piece of the oil action, they can easily buy shares in the multitude of publicly traded oil companies

Your joking? Well, with the Liberals out of government for a few years, their bagmen are going to have nothing to do. Might as well put them to work, rather than have them run off to the UN and steal from a humanitarian oil for food program, no? Well there's the Agricore United board of directors that could use a good housecleaning...

With Magna's biggest customer being Chrysler(25% of their business) Frank has a lot at stake to keep a foothold in and with Chrysler. You're right Frank is a numera uno type of business man, that's why Chrysler is an important purchase for him and in the expansion of Magna.Frank always wanted to build a Magna automobile, and this is his chance to do that, especially with Belinda's political and business experience and help .. ...... .. ya,right. I'm curious, would that mean that in theory Chrysler brand vehicles would be cheaper as they can produce them cheaper as they already make the parts? Maybe Chrysler can build and market cheaper cars for once... -
Your joking?

"But a promise is a promise." OK Danny boy, quiet time. Newspaper's from across the spectrum are coming out against you. Your "principles" are nothing but greed at this point. Another thread about danny williams, this has been beaten to death, revived, killed again and beaten some more, Charles Anthony, close this thing. -
In Canada we don't have property rights, there's nothing stopping the government from expropriation. Also the gov't to buy out the oil industry in Canada would bankrupt our treasury. Ask Quebec how their socialist experiment is going, having Southern states full of slack jawwed yokels in better fiscal shape than Quebec is a joke. Left Winger socialists should have no say in how the economy of Canada should be run.

This thread is flat out ridiculous to the point of laughing. All the fear mongering of GM foods is really a waste of time. Do you know how much bees it would take to pollinate a half section canola field? No plants I grow need bees, wheat grows fine and germinates without them. If bees were needed to pollinate grain crops, I'd be having some hives on my property and would be going deaf from the constant drone of bees. Hippies and their fearmongering, jeez!!! The only thing the genetic code of the plant that is modified is that it makes the plant tolerant to certain types of herbicide (Roundup and Liberty) that's it that's all. And this won't kill anybody I can assure you of that. Why in God's name would any private company genetically modify a plant that would kill somebody or make them sick, they'd go belly up faster than a corvette does the quarter mile. With bees dying it might be residual effects to some pesticides applied to combat flea beatles and or bertha armyworms. The seeds out of the bag are coated in a Helix seed treatment, this makes the leaves poisonous to insects when they try and ingest the leaves. The effect of Helix only lasts about a month and a half otherwise the plant gets too big and dilutes it, so if bees are eating leaves that might be a reason why they are dying. (sure works on flea beatles) I find it laughable that those who have never handled GM seeds or even set foot in a field would be spreading this garbage and conducting this fearmongering about GM food. The only problem with GM seeds is the fact that they are too expensive. (will be remedied if more private companies expand on it) If there are any health problems associated with GM seeds, I'll be one of the first to know. I don't know what it is with left wingers and trying to kill industries.

They're saying that the price of corn and the whole biofuel thing down in the states especially is starting to ease oil prices. I forget where I read that though. I don't see how the oil sands can be risky, it seems when the infrastructure is in place there shouldn't be much to it, I think it's easier to get manpower wise than downhole rigs

The guy was an NDP candidate in Quebec - I don't think he represents mainstream political thought in Quebec. If you'd see the Quebec way of doing agriculture vs. the western candian way for example, I'd be begging to differ. Heavy unionized jobs and gov't jobs are their economy. I'd like to see what would happen to the first quebec politician to cut the expensive gov't programs in order fix their fiscal mess.

Well , take solace in the fact that there are very very few sexually depraved gays out there. Oh but you should worry about the plentiful sexually depraved heterosexual people out there. IOW, dont create in your mind that which is not there. Nice calm response, I know it must have been difficult when facing such negativity and ugliness. You know this type of hate as stated by leafless is the type of things that is much worse than profanity use here. Hopefully, the site's not at risk for allowing it. guyser, you are quite correct, the real threat to society, women and children, are the heterosexuals that are truly depraved. I have absolutely nothing to fear from a homosexual person, but I certainly do from heterosexuals, who are depraved. And how many homosexuals do you see dragging their pregnant spouse out of their office by the hair and then killing them? How many homosexuals do we see beating someone to death because they are heterosexual? I'm sure that most people who don't agree with homosexuality don't hate them. A person doesn't have to agree with homosexuality, they can think it's wrong ---> they are within their right to do that. But to flat out hate someone because of homosexuality is ridiculous and acting on that hatred is moreso. What's also ridiculous is trying to force down people's throats that they MUST accept homosexuality, those people have a right to disagree with it and can express their dissatisfaction with it, (but when they preach hatred then they crossed the line). I mean bashing people because they don't agree with homosexuality makes as much sense as someone like army guy calling you a traitor because you don't agree with the war in Afghanistan or what the Canadian military role is, and the funny thing is I'm sure he hasn't called you a traitor. Another thing bashing people because they haven't gotten sex in a while is proposterous in itself. How dumb does this sound "Ooooh I haven't had any for months on end, the first woman I see is going to get it!!" Come on!! Just because a person hasn't had any in a long time doesn't mean they are dangerous, it's like saying someone is dangerous because they are gay, which is also ridiculous. I'm equally scared of a 6'5 245 pound straight or gay person. Both sides should give their heads a shake.

Go figure a frenchman would pull a ridiculous idea like that out of his ass. There is nothing wrong with gov't setting up an oil rig and COMPETING with private companies, but flat out nationalization???? This guy was wondering why everyone is poorer, maybe he should look at his own province with its communist like social policies. Quebec 56 out of 60 provinces/states as far as being the wealthiest is concerned. What's next the nationalization of Agriculture and Agribusiness. No wonder no one wants to set up shop in Quebec, we have idiots like that over there, I for one wouldn't invest over there. A Quebec politician/professor has no leg to stand on when it comes to dictating the economic future of Canada when their province is an economic disaster in itself. Socialism only works when it has a money tree, when oil runs out in venezuela, i'd like to see the economic disaster it's going to have.

I think it's good for hockey having old DC blabbing away down there. Having an icon like that should help out. Americans like people like DC, having him and his crazy suits might help push the game, provide some entertaining intermissions. I think NBC made a smart move. It should be a good watch. I've seen Hull on NBC, he's pretty tame on there, Cherry will upstage him. it'll be nice watching on NBC where they're not demonstrating what an offside is for their intermission show. I can't see a downside to having DC on there.

CBC Holy Crap, Don Cherry on NBC, I might have to start tuning into the NBC game, this is gold.

Manufacturing--what is Harper doing about this?

How insignificant is the pay? I always thought all the companies had advanced robotics, why is Toyota's better? Employee morale?,do you know of anyone working at Toyota. Why is it better? What is Toyota's human resources philosophy? How is it different than the Big Three and why better? I'm not looking for an arguement,I'm just interested. I can't seem to find any of this stuff on the 'Net. Toyota pays slightly more..... My sister in law is an engineer at the cambridge plant. Japanese manufacturerers pioneered robotics.... The Japanese philosophy is that workers are valued assets, and they have a paternal attitude which you either hate or love...they will go so far as to send a relationship therapist to see an employee who is having marital problems......... http://www.leftlanenews.com/report-uaw-los...-advantage.html Boy it's hard to say a unionized outfit is better when stuff like that is going on... -

With grain/canola providing much better returns than hemp, why grow it? Because it will help the environment on a good many levels, and will become profitable. As opposed to growing genetically modified canola, that may well be killing bees, and should never be used for human consumption. Vegtable oils already make plastics. Which are just as hazardous to the environment as fossil fuel plastics. Hemp for jute, does not require herbicides. Helping out the environment doesn't necessarilly pay the bills, if it pays the bills and is environmentally friendly I pursue it. GM canola is only modified so that glyphosate herbicide can be applied to the field killing all the weeds whilst leaving the canola alone, that's it that's all anything more is just fear mongering, the only downside is the sky high price and copyright BS with it. The killing bees part of canola is due to the fact that the seeds are coated in a seed treatment designed to kill any organism that eats the plant during the cotyledon to the pre-flowering stage, that takes care of flea beetles, not sure about bees. If bees are dying, it might be due to the fact that there is residual chemical from smoking the flea beatles and armyworms. That having been said it's scientifically proven that Canola oil is the best vegetable oil on the market and is by far the healthiest to use, the GM stuff is getting to be phased into biodiesel etc. so you might not have to worry about that. Nexera Canola which is used to make Natreon Oil is by far the healthiest veg. oil in creation, you'd be happy to know that it is NOT genetically modified and was developed using the old open pollination technique. Veg. oil plastics shouldn't be hard on the env. as they should be biodegradable. Hemp, to be grown up to premium standards would require herbicides. That's the smallest problem, the ridiculous amt. of fertilizer needed and the fact that you would burn much more fuel growing it is an environmental problem in itself. Hemp will only become profitable if there is a stable mainstream demand for it, right now it's just too expensive and doesn't provide good enough returns. If people want Hemp to be grown, they should lay down some money. Until there is real money to be made in Hemp, the fields will stay as they are. -

site Worth checking out. Not when it's growing other crops and it's forested. What incentive do I have to grow hemp; dealing with rotting hay, low seed yields, hard on machinery, red tape, high amts. of fertilizer needed, no known herbicides to combat pests. My land is better used to grow tried and true crops under a tried and true system, a majority of farmers will agree with me. I do not fallow any of my fields, my canola/wheat rotation thrown in with the odd alfalfa field works for me. With heavy hemp production like you are stating would put an even greater strain on the food supply, would you support that. I would support the hemp industry if it were set up better like the biofuel sector. It all boils down to costs, it is cheaper to produce oil and petrol products. It's up to the hemp industry to get going, if there's money in it for me, I'd grow it, but as of now there isn't. The hemp industry is so volatile and risky, you need the big boys to buy it as the fringe market just doesn't pay very well. As much as you hate GWB, his biofuel plan is helping out the ag sector big time, which helps out the economy and the environment. There are experiments being done to see if they can make plastics out of canola oil. GWB wants 20% biofuel in American fuel, hemp doesn't really fit in with this strategy. With grain/canola providing much better returns than hemp, why grow it? -

-Umm, the forestry industry in Canada has taken a very large hit. Lumber is ridiculously cheap now. Paper is starting to go the way of the dodo, everything is done electronically now and will be done moreso in the future, take note of all the pulp and paper mills going belly up, the market is not there anymore and is slipping away. -The land that is suitable for hemp production is already being used for wheat, corn, canola which already soaks up carbon dioxide and is used for biofuels and food, where's this extra land going to come from? -There really isn't a significant market for hemp, so I am skeptical about the economics of it, also there are input costs and heavy wear on machinery associated with hemp. -other crops already take care of soil levels -still cheaper to make plastics from oil. -Hemp doesn't like dry weather, that is a problem in the best growing areas. Hemp has numerous benefits which can be found all over the internet. There are other arguments for growing hemp, these are not them. The only way to get hemp online is through gov't legislation, the market as it is doesn't need it. -
Because they paid premiums and taxes to support the system for 50 years when they didn't take anything out of it. Those premiums and taxes are being paid in the event that you will need it at the drop of a hat, not to give you the right to be a burden on society. That's like saying oh the motor's about to go in the car, i've paid into insurance forever, now it's time to make it pay for itself and write the car off in an accident.
-
Good point, the 300 lb is contributing through taxes (even though being 300 lb is IMV the definition of laziness), an 80+ yr. old person isn't. It would be hypocricy to attack the 300 lb person and not the 80+ yr. old person for the sake of saving the health care system some money. This is where Gov't of Manitoba autopac style health insurance would come in handy. If you can afford to register a car, you can make payments on Gov't health insurance. Children should be granted universal care though. I think we are on a collision course with a healthcare epidemic in the next few years considering the extreme elderly and the obese.

Nor can the opposition that's supposed to be ready to replace it. Dion needs to keep a tight leash on Holland, he already lost the Liberals their chance at a couple Edmonton seats with his big ignorant mouth. What did he say?

1. When are women going to stop painting all men as savages when when the vast majority of men are decent? 2. The witness went for the guard because that is the way things are now...and the guy had a gun! When are some going to stop depicting all, FN's, and Musliims as savages? Stats do not bear you out on the vast majority are decent. So, what if he had a gun, she was pregnant. Oh this is rich, here is the double standard to end all double standards ---> oh I can take care of myself blah blah blah but the man is supposed to go and put his life on the line because she is a pregnant woman. I'd like to see a woman put in that guys spot, she'd probably do the same thing the guy did. This makes as much sense as a woman being able to make fun of a guys weight, but heaven forbid a guy call a woman fat! This double standard is a joke. Feminism turned from a noble cause into an absolute joke. I'm with guyser on this one.

If you think so strongly, take it up with the Tories who are considering extending it. If they do, what reason do you have to vote for them? I am 1 person, what possible difference can I make??? 1) I agree with the idea of fiscal conservatism, the tories are closest to rep. that 2) I have a personal hatred of the Liberal Party 3) Decentralized gov't vs. Trudeauesque centralized gov't
