  1. Well look, that's not even remotely correct. It's almost completely inaccurate. The set of facts barely intersects with your above statement. Riiiigghhht, my bro went to Depot where that was drilled into his head, but according to you that's not good enough. Pick up any Police Officer Exam prep. guide and that philosophy is present throughout, time to get your head out of the sand.
  2. I find it funny that Saskatchewan's employment rate is that high considering the exodus of people out of that province and the large amount of Status FN there, farmers are going to have one hell of a time finding workers...
  3. I find it intriguing that in a society such as Canada's we have one province that's fighting an issue of reasonable accomodation and from what I gather it's acceptable (Quebec). But if a province like Alberta or Manitoba tried to pull that off we'd be torn to shreds by the media and PC people. Why the double standard in Canada?
  4. Should canada not be taking any prisoners of war then?
  5. what's that in miles per gallon?
  6. The Liberals have a point here, I'll give them that. Something should be done about this. Good plan all in all.
  7. The RCMP has a sworn duty to protect the safety of everyone, including greenpeace protesters chained to a fence, leaving them chained to a fence out of spite is not a good idea for them.
  8. We ? I think "they" have a problem, unless the perps use bombs...then it is we. How long until someone here blames Arar ? (where is mikedavid anyway) I'd say it's we, there is a problem with religious fundamentalists of all stripes, the evangelical christians give us prairie boys a bad rap. Something about an abortion doctor getting death threats a while ago. Something needs to be done to cap religious fundamentalism in Canada before it gets out of hand.
  9. cbc Looks like we have quite a little problem on our hands.
  10. So I guess this also helps Harper's master plan, now we wait for the majority...
  11. The primary concern of any police officer is safety, his own safety and the safety of the public. If the officer feels that the safety of the public is in jeopardy, he has full authority to take any action to make sure public safety is concerned. If that involves ejecting protesters then so be it. He also has to defend his actions and it may not hold up in court.
  12. In contrast to the prosecutors? BTW, how do you explain the various and diverse wrongful convictions, the frequent jailing of innocent people, the repeated, seemingly endless parade of victims of unjust verdicts? Cripes, I can't even name them all anymore. And that's just the murder convictions! Imagine how many poor sods must be doing time for lesser wrongful convictions! Probably 20-50% of the guys in prisons are actually innocent. Cops can arrest anyone they suspect of committing a crime and cart them off to jail. Probably 20-50% of people found innocent in trials are in fact guilty of crimes and got off on a technicality. Imagine how many poor people are victims of crime because timmy the crook got off on a technicality. If those people are so innocent they get a chance to appeal their crimes while in jail. That's why we don't have the death penalty, it gives them a chance to prove their innocence. How do you explain all the street gang members wandering around the streets who get off on technicalities all the time? Please enlighten me of all these wrongful convictions, if they are found wrong the suspect is eventually released. That part of our justice system is fine.
  13. Yeppers, like off duty fire fighters and their children! Off duty fire fighter and "kid" who were passengers in a vehicle driven by someone charged with impaired involved in a collision. Firefighters who have been accused of becoming belligerent after the fact including shoving a bystander by the kid (who is an adult by the way) according to witnesses. Of course none of this has been proved and it is subject to investigation but don't let it get in the way of dumping on the police. Judging from the video on Youtube and the news the off duty firefighter and kid were resisting arrest. You resist arrest you get the piss knocked out of you and get carted off to the klink.
  14. Ah, but in legal terms they are exercising their first amendment rights. They can exercise their first amendment rights elsewhere, when exercising those rights infringes on keeping an orderly society that's called disturbing the peace and is a crime, (albeit a very minor one) If the cop wants to remove the problem he has every right to do so, whether it holds up in court is a whole other ballgame. Guyser good point, I don't know if you remember or not the whole protester getting pepper sprayed incident. Something about human rights protesters blocking traffic. Anyhow the RCMP put a stop to it rather quickly (too quickly). Don't know about if any arrests were made, but the officer doing that had stripes on his shoulders (he was a staff sargeant). Another incident happened at home concerning FN with fishing, the cops had to tell them to leave because they couldn't handle the protesters if it went south. It's all discretion of the CO's and it's about safety first of all. I don't think those guys in the states protesting the funerals would make as big a stink as the FNs at Caledonia. Case by case issues all of them.
  15. I feel relatively safe in commenting that I think you do believe this, at least until your 64 year 363rd day. Then you will change your mind. I'd probably have went senile by then so the mind might change. Sorry I couldn't live with myself if I was a big drain on my family and society. We just simply live too long that's all.
  16. Freedom of speech . And I believe they apply for a licence to protest the funerals. As it is now, the police are instructed to keep them separate and allow them to get out of dodge and move to the next town. It is far easier for them to deal with it this way. I can see that, but to spin it this way, shouldn't the cops haul them off in the cop car, they are disturbing the peace after all, if some guy at the funeral goes up and clocks the protester we have a problem. In the interest of the safety of the protesters, the cops should cart their ass off so they can protest somewhere else or to the klink. Disturbing the peace is pretty arbitrary, and of course it won't hold up in court, it was never meant too, just temporarily thinking of safety.
  17. They cant . They sue and cash cheques. It is suspected that they picket Soldiers funeral in an attempt to be hit or worse, then they can sue and cash in. People marching against them , ie soldeirs funerals, are instructed not to touch them m go near them nor jostle/harass them. Their is a biker organization that follows them around to the funerals to counter act the chants etc. The bikers wave huge flags and rev the engines of the bikes to drown the Phelps chants. Can't the cops just bust them for disturbing the peace. Sure it might not hold up in court, but they get carted off to the klink for a brief stay.
  18. Don Newman on Politics Today said that some Conservatives were privately saying that such partisan statements make Harper look bad. I was watching MDL, Jason Kenney handed the NDP guy his rear end concerning this matter. Statements like that make a guy look good or bad depending on one's point of view.
  19. Dion had a chance to spin this a lot better, instead he made it look like he was favoring the prisoners and their safety. Harper called him on it. Had Dion said the prisoners could be escaped and could attack Canadian Soldiers and spun it that way, Harper has no leg to stand on. Dion made a mistake and paid for it.
  20. You were called a troll? Thats not true , and I may have disagreements with you but never considered you a troll. Oh well, you're a farmer, ya gots thick skin under yer Dickies doncha ? You are right, it is an insult to police and lawyers. I like to point out hypocrisy from time to time. In another thread I was called a troll over my statement over the Comuzzi boot out. Looking at this thread, if I may steal your phrase "Pot meet Kettle". Quite humourous actually.
  21. It's a goldmine? Seems like it costs a lot of money to bid for Hockey and it helps bring in $200 million but they are likely to lose the rights to all sports in the next years anyways. Time to make the move to no commercials and no sports. It's a goldmine in the sense it draws in their largest and most reliable audience. People are always going to check out hockey night in Canada. If CBC guts it's sports and commercials that net it some money, then we have a dead horse PBS network in Canada and last time i checked PBS ratings are in the tank. What would the government have to say to the taxpayers, we have a network hardly anyone watches that costs a billion dollars that could be spent on something else.
  22. If they really have a choice, why is it that the greatest number of at-home parents have an upper middle-class (or higher) income? Choice is not why many women go to work at close to minimum wage jobs. Out of curiosity, what would happen if many of those families suddenly had an extra $4K-$5K of after-tax income? Would the 2nd spouse still choose to work? Probably, they're going to want to buy things, nice cars and city houses cost a fortune.
  23. Dion was asking for it. There were soldiers in the gallery. Harper's a pretty smart guy and made Dion look like a fool. Harper owes Dion nothing. Politics is rough, if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.
  24. The riding has bounced back and forth between Liberals and NDP over the years. There is no Liberal presently nominated there. This is probably a safe Liberal riding, if I were Dion I wouldn't fret too much. This riding doesn't scream tory blue. I don't think the whole tory idea flies out here.
  25. Mosque finished with 1.2 million for the last episode which is very good for any Canadian programming. Better than most American programming as well. Hockey Night costs a hell of lot for CBC to buy each year. CBC brings in $200 million in advertising but it has to pay quite a lot of that for the rights. The CBC would do better to let hockey go and do other things with their money. But if Hockey is CBC's goldmine, this loss would make taxpayers go why fund the CBC?, they can charge more for advertising on HNIC. They'd lose a lot of viewers due to this and if the CBC had to rely on a fad to hold onto viewers than the CBC is in serious trouble, that's all Little Mosque is, a fad.
