We're already in, you said that the tories dont want to piss of their western base. Geez your all over the place. What about the people who died as a result of poor healthcare as the result of the Liberals slashing healthcare funding? People, glass houses and rocks don't mix.
-
The federal Liberals appealed to their base of city people and Ontarians and pissed off western Canada, but since its the Liberals its alright. Nice double standard. They balanced the budget, paid off the debt once, they'll do it again. It was good enough for Albertans, the tories got re-elected!!!
-
They undershot their previous budgets by approx twenty dollars a barrell. They can afford a year or two decline. Don't worry, they have a government famous for swinging the axe.

Alberta is by far the richest oil producing region in the world and its citizens are the best off. There are other oil producing countries in the world that are basket cases. Alberta needed good fiscal management and government to properly utilize its wealth. Ontario can pull itself by the bootstraps, it has its own set of gold mines. Not the tories fault they can't manage them.

What about de-salinization plants? -
Why don't like how well Alberta is doing?

Nope no equalization. If programs can't be afforded, then they should be cut. Alberta, SK, and Newfoundland will have diversified their economy so they will not need equalization. Perhaps if they weren't being raided, they can retain their earnings. Equalization is the reason why Canada is divided. Without equalization, people can see how stupid socialism is and will be forced to figure out how to get their own economies on track.

Agriculture still looks pretty good. Time to pick up a western producer and go job hunting!!! -
Step out of your ivory tower, every region of Canada is different, Quebecer are different, Maritimers are different, Ontarians are different, Prairie people are different, and West Coast BC people are different. It is too large of a country to be a big tent. If certain areas of the country aren't raided for their dollars, certain energy policies weren't enacted, and certain areas of this country aren't getting handouts, we'd be a lot better off.

If Harper steps down as Conservative leader

I am stupider for having read that. -
I'd only support breaking up the country only if it came from parliament. This stupid colonial attitude that the east has, has got to end. It is a failed concept and is what has created the US (the richer money making area wanting to leave the inefficient mother country) Slash transfer payments, let the provinces raise more money. This whole attitude of "Ontario/Quebec Colonialism" has got to go.

Who would harper form a coalition with? The tory war room will spin this democracy angle whether you think its ethical or not. He said a deficit is possible. he didn't run one. The tories can run attack ads on this during the coalition gov't. And the poorest Canadians who don't pay income tax, this is their only tax cut, how little it is. -

A lot more people than think that socialism is the best economic system in the world. This ponzie scheme and crap shoot defeated the biggest socialist joke in the world and is far more stable and lasted longer than the theft and thuggery system we know as socialism. -

now they can go to the electorate about democracy, how the libs are running a huge deficit when the tories would have a 100 m surplus, how the tories managed the country, and whatever nonsense the tory war room can concoct. All they have to do is convince voters. I was talking about potential tory leaders, Lord is the best horse. Ah but being a business owner that is constantly turning money over on expenditures, namely machinery, a GST cut was really really beneficial. -

Where did I say I horded it in a savings account, even if I did that, that helps out the banks loan money to people. I spend money on my business, the more money I save from taxes, the more I can put in the bank and spend which helps out the economy. Venezuela believes in your system and they are a living joke. -

Ha, If I did, me paying taxes would be a pointless exercise. I get some income tax back, not property tax, and sales tax. The sales tax on machinery and inputs is a big kick in the ass. -

The NDP will have to go to their electorate about that. They won't like being short changed on gov't services. Do you have a better bilingual leader for the tories than Lord? Good thing the tories did both. I and other business owners did well with the GST and income tax cuts. -

What useless drivel. Punishing our business's and population in general with high taxation is proposterous. Canadian's know how to spend their own money. I pay more GST tax than most people's income tax in this country. Why should I be punished for getting ahead? Our country over spent themselves into this mess, they can cut costs to get out of it. I shouldn't have to foot the bill for their finanical stupidity. -

Not as massive as the one the Liberal-NDP-Bloc are planning on running. I'll wait for you to remember that it was Trudeau who ran massive deficits and that Mulroney had to run them in order to pay off the interest. -

The beauty of the coalition. The NDP booted the Liberals out of government when the Liberals wanted to cut taxes. If this coalition is to work then the Libs must play ball with the NDP, expect taxes to rise. The lefties should hope Lord makes too much money to consider federal politics. I'd like Lord as PM. Is Harper running a corporation? A surplus is a surplus no matter how small it is. Harper can cut spending, there are lots of programs that could use the axe, but the electorate won't like it. The GST cut made a huge difference to me. I am happy with all the money I saved. How much taxes are you willing to pay? Overtaxing the population isn't fiscal conservatism, its theft. -

He's not going to run a deficit, we have a 100 mill. surplus. Next election, the "opposition" has to go to the electorate and explain why they want to go into deficit and why they are going to want to either raise taxes or cut services to pay for it. This crisis will be over in a couple of years, do I want to be paying high taxes when the economy picks up? -

Get ready to see our taxes shoot up in the coming years. I am not a happy camper with this turn of events. My taxes finally went down significantly, and now they are about to shoot back up and I can't see them coming down. I am most definetely not tory brass. It would be neat if I was, but I'm not. The way the tories dressed up Harper, and worked on him, anyone could be leader. If I were Bernard Lord, I'd be sharpening my knives. -
that "sober" second thought costs too much money. The GG is sober second thought enough. Why we have unaccountable individuals running the country is a smack to the face of democracy.
