Ah yes. Thousands of practising climatologists agree that Global Warming is happening and is being caused by humans. A handful of (mostly retired) scientists who act essentially as PR men are on the other side. LET'S GIVE THEM EQUAL RESPECT PEOPLE! Yeah, try proving that. Links please, otherwise you are just blowing more hot air. You want me to try and prove a self-evident fact?

Harper Declare's Canada is Gutsier
gerryhatrick replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We've heard this drivel from liberals before, that quiet, behind-the-scenes cajoling works much better. And we've seen this kind of megaphone "diplomacy" from rightwingers before. It's been well worn by George Bush. If you think the goal here is anything other than playing to the gullibility of a portion of the home audience then I guess you're part of that audience! -
Your personal experience with Canadian Aboriginals
gerryhatrick replied to Higgly's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Agreed... someone has put this to a vote. Having collected results... what are those results meant to determine? I live in Canada and have lived near or worked with some native people who were in varying cases and degrees, rich/poor, good/bad, asshole/really-nice, drunk/sober, etc. However, none of these simple dichotomies expresses the realities of life for the majority of aboriginal people, nor do they get at anything interesting... they are the most basic ways of classifying people and are boring and useless... unless there is some better interpretation. Anyone?? Is this string going anywhere?? I think the point is native bashing. -
Harper Declare's Canada is Gutsier

From the article: To be frank (like tough guy Harper) this is about the stupidest example of foreign policy dealings I've every seen. He comes away from a meeting with the Chinese Prez and starts bragging about how he is Mr. forceful and "if I may say" the Chinese were essentially taken aback by his toughness, although he "can't speak for them". I hope he thinks that's earning him points at home, because it's not going to get our citizen prisoner Huseyin Celil released. His family must be a little upset to be reading crap like this. Unless Harper struck a deal with the Chinese which includes letting him mouth-off at their expense, that deal is done. Oh yeah, real tough guy! Can't even face the media. -
Harper assuming presidential stance

Holy smoke! How on earth did you get anti-American out of that? Everything anyone says in Canada these days is anti-American. It's become quite a useful political tool for the CPC. -
Yes. We did not have a "very powerful lobby" in 1938, when the Nazis organized mass riots that targeted Jewish homes and businesses. Yes. We did not have a "very powerful lobby" in 1933, when Dachau opened for business. Yes. We did not have a "very powerful lobby" in 1939-45, when the Germans, with little Canadian or US opposition, gathered up almost all of Continental Europe's Jewry (except in Russia) and killed them. If we didn't lobby, we'd be "sheeple" being used for mutton, not for wool. NEVER AGAIN!!! Good grief. Relax, for godsake. I guess that establishes there's a Jewish lobby though!

Oh yes, wise. Dehumanize them by calling them an "anomaly" created by "immorality and viciousness", and then add a caveat that they should be protected. Don't think that perhaps the first hateful comment will generate the very kinds of acts against homosexuals that they need protecting against. Oh no. It was comments such as those espoused by Leafless that permitted Svend Robinson to get his Bill C-250 through Parliament to add homosexuality to those areas protected against hate speech. That makes no sense.

Scientists Blame Sun for Global Warming

I've never seen a topic in this forum area by someone who accepts the reality of Global Warming post something that wasnt' somehow related to Canadian Federal politics. This topic is unrelated to federal politics. Post all the Global Warming denial topics you want. Just make them relavent to Canadian politics somehow. -
The ugly hate-filled Left
gerryhatrick replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well let's hope he lurks then. -
Does Ralph Klein work tooth and nail to discredit the idea of Global Warming? Does he have as much power and influence as the Chairman of the Senate Environment & Public Works Comm.? Inhofe has made the fight against the truth of Global Warming his life's work. After hundreds of millions of deaths have been attributed to Global Warming maybe then we'll talk again about the definition of "evil".

http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/new...k=43895&p=2 He's absolutely correct to chastise us as he does. And does he ever: He stirs the pot well on an issue that requires stirring and one that is also becoming more important in political races across the world. Obviously it's becoming more of an issue for our current Government, one that they're in dire need of some good news for. They better ramp up those regulations they were talking about earlier.

The ugly hate-filled Left
gerryhatrick replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Wrong Monty! The point that your missing is that there's ugliness on the left and the right. I could find as many examples as you (and many of your examples were silly ones anyway, imo. Not examples of "hate" in the least) of written/spoken words by those on the far-right which show far more ugly hatred. If I did so the howls of protest here would be long and loud. I post a letter to the editor about Harper breaking tradition at a Remembrance Day ceramony and several posters chime in to call me petty or hateful. Even greg showed up to say it was petty flame-bait. It begs the question, what is this topic of yours? -
"Democracy" in Afghanistan
gerryhatrick replied to normanchateau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ah yes, the 50's. If only we could get them back. Oh for the days when a war protestor would have been dragged off and never been seen alive again. What the men and women who died for in WW1 and WW2 was exactly the freedom that those who protest Afghanistan and/or Iraq are exercising. Yes, even those who wear white poppies are honoring those who died by exercising their freedoms in this free society they died protecting. Your whistful dreams of a day when these people would not have been tolerated are misguided and misinformed. You do not honor those who died, you trample on what they fought for. -
"Democracy" in Afghanistan
gerryhatrick replied to normanchateau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You want posters dealt with if they "trample on Canadian traditions"? I'm not sure what times you're referring to. When was there a time that public displays of dissent or anti-war or whatever were not allowed to "go unchecked"? Remind me of when these days were that you wish we could return to. Actually the crosses were allowed in the end, along with other religious symbols.
