Harper assuming presidential stance
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is a freaking letter to the editor and I found it interesting AND it is quite in line with federal politics. I'm sorry if you find it so offensive that it was necessary for you to start attacking me personally. It's unfortunate that there are forces at work on this forum that seek only to silence and corral others. You say I have "stupid positions", but what you mean is I'm not politically like you and that makes you angry. The forum has been much better lately. I hope you're not picking up the personal attack torch. -
WTH? There is a very powerful Jewish lobby in Canada and the USA which leverages it's power for political reasons. You seem to agree...or, are you calling me "anti-Semitic"? Not really sure. And if you need a lesson on how to quote other posters properly PM me. It's very easy. This is precisely the kind of response such posts begat. Just so we are clear, your comment that there is a powerful Jewish lobby in Canada and the US which leveragesits power for political reasons is absolute and utter b.s. and the kind of racist generalization that flows from idiots who post conspiracy theories that generalize about races. You have got to be kidding. You are not aware of the Israel lobby? These are real people. You've made yourself look very ignorant over this.

Harper assuming presidential stance
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course not Geoffrey. It's just a question of protocol. If indeed this is the wrong protocol standing where he stood and getting the salute as he did, why is it happening? It's an interesting thing. Maybe it was an accident, but with this "new" government I suspect few of these kinds of things are accidents. -
Great news, not unexpected. The lead will continue to grow after Bob Rae is made leader and Canadians get a good look at him.

Bob Rae has the right approach to Quebec
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
From the article: Excellent analysis. -
The more I hear about Bob Rae the more I look forward to seeing him in action. I don't think there's any question he'll be the next Liberal leader, unless Frank McKena shows up.

Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
gerryhatrick replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
EGALE's main position was to see that there is equality for everyone. Raising it to 16 had solved that. Everyone is equal! The websites I read from links within this topic weren't EAGLE, and the concepts were more in-depth than just "equality for everyone". No please, mention them. Who has expressed a concern that Canada is attracting pedophiles? -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward
gerryhatrick replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
On page two you made the implication, and I said: To which you replied: Gerry, why didn't you post my entire reply? You left things out to make it sound like the way you want it to sound. You were trolling with your silly little innuendo! Obviously you know I was talking of EGALE! Trolling with my silly little innuendo? Hardly. The comment you made before my "innuendo" was this: I interpreted that logically. Svend = gay....you believe the benifit is for pedophiles...so your implication is that svend - because he's gay - is perhaps looking to gratify his pedophilia. I did not post your entire answer, true, but I posted your immediate answer to my accusation that you're labelling gays as pedophiles, which was: Don't act hard done by, you exposed your true feelings right there so live with it. Okay, you've had your jollies Gerry. Now can you please humor this anti-gay and bigotted Betsy and get back to answering one simple question. What's wrong with 16? Nothing is wrong with 16. The concerns expressed by those who wish to see the act further debated and/or changed are well known. Their websites are linked from this topic in fact. The concerns are legitimate, and portraying them as pedophiles is dishonest. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Their constitution states that no legislation, including human rights legislation, can be "contrary to the laws of Islam". Well, that's no good. Gotta get that changed to Christianity, tout suit! /sarcasm. -
Environmentalists apologize to Ambrose

Which goes to prove: environmentalists have more brains than Peter MacKay! -

Crosses Yanked from Nov. 11 Gr. 3 Display
gerryhatrick replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A cross is not "our tradition" though blueblood, it's a Christian symbol. The term "our" may be true for you, but it's not true for many others. Canadian schools should not promote any religion over another. I still stand by what I said, a cross is not our tradition. A line referencing "God" doesn't change that. -
And he blamed the troops for missing explosives before the 2004 election.

gerryhatrick replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree with you, Gerry, but I don't see this issue as being about promoting one religion over another, but rather as examining the context and imagery of the First World War. Flanders Fields did have crosses to mark the graves of the soldiers, but the message of the poem is not about religion, it is about honouring the sacrifices of the men and women who died. Its too powerful and meaningful a poem to put on the shelf simply because of the mention of crosses. You have a good point Melanie. It is part of the symbolism of the war. It's a difficult line to walk. I wouldn't object personally, but I understand and respect the decision. -

This is not political correctness. This is most definitely political INcorrectness. The reason I say that is because it is not a popular stance. -

How is Nov 11 identified with religion? People of all religions - Christians, Moslems, Sikhs, Hindus, fought in the war. Nov 11 is intended to honor them all. The cross is identified with a particular religion. -

Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, its alot different from Iraq. Once again progress is being made, We're always being told that progress is being made in Iraq too. And you misunderstood me when I posted this: I was talking about the sentiment that Harper is using the troops when he invokes support for them (and the possible loss of it) when he is speaking of the mission. That is the point of this topic, and is what I first saw expressed on a military website. -
WTH was this guy's big press conference supposed to be about? I thought he was releasing some big revelations. It was a non-event. Man, he is a character!

Actually, she continuously makes the implication that gays are pedophiles. That is a hateful attack on gays, imo. -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward

Why Gerry? Because the concerns are legitimate, and painting them as pedophiles for having legitimate concerns is not intelectually honest. -
Age of Consent Hearings Moving Forward

Quite honestly the topic doesn't interest me as much as it does yourself. I am aware that there are legitimate concerns from those who want to review the law. Painting them as pedophiles is intelectually dishonest.
