Liberals well positioned for next election
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not according to the story: By my calculation, that's 1/4 from Quebec (a little less, actually) not 1/3. And a margin of error is existent in every poll. It doesn't invalidate the poll. Your "+-10%" comment is nonsense. 2/3 of the poll was from ontario and quebec with margin of error of 6.3 and 5 in Ontario pretty much the only provinces focused on. It is a flawed poll becuase it is assumed the rest of the country which recived 1/3 polling for 8 other provinces are static they aren't. In the only provinces they polled it is +/-5.8 margin of error that is the difference the liberals are winning by. It is just stuipd to take this seriously. You're changing your story now. But nevermind. Just look at the national poll result. 37 - 31 % Liberals over CPC, MOE only 3.1% Deal wit -

Well that person is wrong and you're being willfully lazy about the poll by repeating it without looking for yourself. -

Internet polls are obviously crap. Why are "some people here" questioning the veracity of this Strategic Council poll though? -

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories And he polls extremely well in Quebec. 62% said he was a good choice. I think the CPC sabatoge might backfire. They hoped it would be Iggy, but Dion is probably a bigger nightmare for them than Rae would have been. -
I believe the name is given out in the story. In fact, it's in the very next sentance to the one you quoted. Did you stop reading there? Question the journalism, lol.

Let's not forget what Pope Benidict is...
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Phooey-kablooey and double baloney! As far as I know, the priesthood does not forbid priests from leaving the grounds of the church. They are free to mingle with everyone. They may be expected to be celibate...but don't tell me lack of opportunity is not there...if one is desperate enough! If some priests could manage to have sexual contacts and affairs with adult women...I don't see why some priests could just sodomize a boy or molest a child, just because they lead a celibate life. They are perverts! Plain and simple. Their sexual taste are into that direction. Obviously they're perverts. They are sexually aroused by children. The possibility raised was that the lifestyle and expectations of the priesthood may be a factor in making them perverts. I have no idea what answer you're talking about betsy. You're did a very poor job here of comprehending the post you responded to and now you're doing a very poor job of explaining yourself. If you're going to berate me over something then try to be specific. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Some Liberals support the mission and some oppose it. However, a majority of Canadians now oppose the mission, and most of them strongly oppose the mission. Here's the link: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Ipsos_Reid:_Po..._Afghan_mission As indicated in the link, Alberta is now the only province in Canada where a majority support the mission. Then again, isn't Alberta the only province in Canada to elect only CPC MPs? Given how Harper has bent over backwards to blur the line between support for the troops and support for the mission, it's not surprising that Harper supporters would feel that way. -
There's no need to fearmonger over Harper anymore, he's made the fears a realization. Now his record can be pointed at. You think Dion is incompetant! You're a partisan, through and through. That's fine, I'm partisan also. The difference between us is one of honesty. You claimed you would vote Liberal if the leader wasn't "anti-Alberta", as you say Dion is. The fact is you would never vote anything other than CPC. Your pretense is by design to make other posters think you're actually fair-minded towards Liberals. Lessee. You call Dion "incompetent" and "anti-Alberta". Sure, you're not partisan.

Chrétien to PM: 'Can I call you Steve, like George W.?'
gerryhatrick replied to comup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-GOT WHAT??? Don't be such a FOOL! Name calling is a nice way to welcome a new poster! The sentiment he expressed is correct, the speach was classic Chretien. He took some slick and funny shots at Harper. That is the "it" that he still has. Yep, it was a very good speach. -

This is simple ignorance and bigotry. Liberals have always been jealous of the US, and upset that despite how the Americans do everything Liberals say you shouldn't, their country appears to work better than ours does, and is certainly richer, with a vastly better economy. No, not ignorance and certainly not bigotry. What is being said is that Harper is governing very much like Bush, and his policies and attitudes are very similar. Bigotry? That doesn't even make sense. As for the idea that Liberals are "jealous" of the US, that's complete nonsense. Liberals have been critical of the Bush administration. For that they've been called "anti American", which has been proven wrong since Bush is now rejected by a wide majority of Americans. -
So who is your pick for the Liberals?
gerryhatrick replied to Biblio Bibuli's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You must think Western Canadians are simple-minded idiots if you think they're frightened by someone speaking a language other than English. Winnipeg has a very large French-Canadian population. We have no problem with it. Who are these Western Canadians who would be scared by someone speaking French? Albertans? Not another Alberta-basher...there's one already active in this topic. -

Ah, playing the old divisive "us vs. them" card. Not unexpected. You and Geoffrey assume that a carbon tax would affect Alberta the most. Geoffrey has even let his partisan hackery peek through by calling any politician who would support a carbon tax "anti-Albertan". The fact is that a carbon tax could, and should, be structured so we all pay. At the pump. And if it affects the industries that produce a lot of C02, so be it. Perhaps that's what's needed now. That's "pro-World", not "anti-Alberta". Dion will get my vote if he wins. We need a carbon tax, and much much more. Obviously dyed-in-the-wool rightwing Reform/Alliance types will accuse such a thing of being "anti-Alberta", but that type of person puts partisanship and divisiveness above genuine concern for an important issue like Global Warming. -

gerryhatrick replied to Biblio Bibuli's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ignatieff strongly supports a carbon tax, Dion would likely follow suit. That's not in Alberta's interest. Supporting a carbon tax does not make someone "anti-Alberta". If you want to argue how it would hurt Alberta go right ahead, but calling it "anti-Alberta" is absolute nonsense. If it hurts Alberta, it's against our interests.... most people would say something against Alberta's interests is anti-Alberta. Does noone in Alberta care about Global Warming? You have a very low opinion of Albertans if all you think they care about is how a carbon tax would affect their wallets. And although your circular rationalizing may look nice, the fact remains that calling someone "anti-Alberta" carries a slanderous connotation that is not justified by claiming they're against the interests of Albertans on a single issue. -

Excellent movie: "Deliver Us from Evil"
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
From watching the movie, I don't think the b@stard has any appreciation for the hurt he's caused. He seems to be enjoying his life just fine in Ireland. He's strolling the lanes quite freely, pausing to enjoy the sight of children playing. I hope this movie makes things a little more uncomfortable for him. He deserves to be watched like a hawk. And some leaders in the Catholic church deserve to be jailed for gross negligence and obstruction. -

gerryhatrick replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
LOL, all these experts on the CWB weighing in against the single desk. It's quite obvious most of them don't even understand what the CWB is. I'm sure they'll google it, but if they answered honestly I have no doubt they could not even tell me which grains the CWB handles! The simple and correct answer to the topic question is ideology. Removing the CWB is in line with the rightwing ideology that the market is God. It also hugely benifits the big corporate grain handling companies like Agricore United, Sask Pool, Cargil, et al. Not hard to see the typical rightwing pattern at work here. -
Stephen Harper using the troops AGAIN.
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I've never ever said that "there is never a good reason to go to war" nor have I ever said that Canada should "never help another nation again". It's the Afghanistan mission I oppose. I'm proud of what Canadian forces accomplished in World War I and II. But in those wars, we weren't fighting to prop up a corrupt Islamic theocracy. It's too bad you have to defend yourself against such slander. The reality is that Stephen Harper, in all his wisdom, has decided to link support for the troops with support for the mission. So now support for our troops is conditional? No Steve, I don't think so. -
Howard Dean speaks for Canadian Liberals
gerryhatrick replied to geoffrey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Their campaign wasn't successful. Geoffrey, he ran a very successful campaign. Obviously the Repubs were going to lose seets given the climate, but Deans fundraising, toughness, and 50 state strategy gave them a much higher level of victory than they would otherwise have had. And what was their platform? It was not being Republican. It was a regressive and negative campaign. Don't vote for them, look at what they've done. It doesn't work in Canada, no one has ever won on that. Obviously you didn't follow the US election very closely Geoffrey. There was a great deal of information on the Dem platforms and positions. Are you depending on CNN for all US news? -

Greg probably receives several PMs reporting the exact same spam message. What part of that do you not understand????? Sigh. You post that like it's relavent to the point I just made, and it's not. So, the part I don't understand is what you're point is. Your assumption is that if the mail is not "marked" as reported by some jokester's reply that reams of people will PM greg. There's no evidence of that. Regulars will soon learn (if it were policy) not to report them. Who are all these good samaritens that will run around reporting each of the multiple spams we get a day? Nah, you're wrong on that one. And besides that, have you noticed how the spams have increased since this little reply policy was started? Maybe these spammers have a little network in which they share information about favorable forums that bump their topics. It doesn't matter anyway since greg is working on a solution. You keep up the good work 'til then Charlie.

If the UN is irrelavent then why does everyone make such a fuss over it? All this BS about the UN being irrelavent from neo-con types reminds me of a child telling their parents they don't need them.

Bob Rae out ahead in poll of Canadians
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Harper is a wimp And so are his fervent supporters" gerry's topic of only a few weeks ago. And I made a solid argument for it. His behavior I invoked was wimpy and anyone supporting it was supporting wimpyness.
