  1. The man is definitely not socialist. His party was originally a socialist party but in the past few years has radically moved towards the center to appeal to a wider voter base.
  2. Where are these neverending reserves? Why is the price going up? Profitable? Just because a "price" of a product or service goes up, it does not automatically equate to increased profits -- particularly when the cost of production goes up at the same time. People are complaining of prices being too high now, what will make them be able to afford the even-higher-prices of the future???? I never said we can afford to pay for gas if the price keeps increasing, I'll quote myself so you’ll have a second chance at reading what I posted. When the price of a barrel is at $12, it's unprofitable to extract oil in Alberta but as the price increases, well you get the picture. I do not agree with our current market system but even I understand the basics of it.
  3. The nut that is Glenn Greenwald. And I'm sure it's kinda hard to keep secrets when you "pencil-in" invasions.
  4. We won't be running out of oil for the next few hundred years. As the price increases, previously unprofitable deposits become profitable.
  5. Anyone who followed the Madrid bombings closely at the time, should absolutely know, that the government's first response to the bombings was to blame Basque separatists, not Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda was only suggested afterwards. This was the true jump to conclusion. While I don't have the time to waste to correct numerous other instances in this thread of disinformation and propaganda, I wanted to correct this grave error. Waste away... Madrid bombing suspect tied to al-Qaeda, one day after the bombing Links across Europe show Al Qaeda quick to regroup and combine different networks. 8 days after the bombing. Al Qaeda Implicated In Madrid Bombings One day after the bombing The Al Qaeda Connection 2 days after the bombing Would you like more links?
  6. Were any of these machines used in Canada's last election at all? None of them are used in Canada to my knowledge and let’s hope it stays that way. link Another quick little headline that should make the Us .gov apologist cringe: Spy Agency Sought U.S. Call Records Before 9/11, Lawyers Say
  7. Multinational Monitor estimates that white collar crime in the US accounts for around $200 billion a year. Something to keep in perspective. You should all read Patrick Parnaby's study on the squeegee kids of Toronto. Framing certain "problems" as menaces to our society in the hopes that we forget about the bigger problems. It’s a great way to divert attention.
  8. New e-voting study shows it's really easy to steal an election
  9. CanoeOne poll doesn't make a trend. But I think Boisclair's honeymoon is starting to wind down and the human flaws of the person sitting opposite the breakfast table are starting to become apparent. More important though is that Charest can call this a Harper bounce. They have a nice gig operating here. Next, you'll here the old crap about "Blue in Ottawa, Red in Quebec". Finally, the poll doesn't mean Charest and the Liberals are popular. They're not. OTOH, I'll bet the sovereignty numbers are down, which is far more serious for the PQ. You should add the 6 %( which is disproportionably low IMO) from Quebec Solidaire and the 17% from the ADQ to the sovereignist side. (although I'm sure not all of them would vote for sovereignty)
  10. From your link Michael Nuclear family grasping at straws.
  11. But they ARE freedom fighters. If Russia had invaded North America during the cold war any one of us citizens would have been "freedom fighters". Iraq has been invaded by a foreign power therefore those who fight against the foreign power are "freedom fighters" not "terrorists". A terrorist is someone who terrorizes people, not invading armies. Ta Da! If ever second household on your block was bulldozed would you be pissed off? If a group of teenagers throws rocks do they deserve to be blown to bits by artillery? I don't believe we should protect deserters. They signed up after all to be a part of the American war machine, whatever that may entail. The draft, on the other hand, forces people into war (not volunteers) and I would accept any draft dodger with open arms. +++++ Post of the year!
  12. I doubt the ADQ will pick up many votes although stranger things have happen. I think the PQ will be picking up many of the votes from former liberal voters. The center - right voters of the liberals will be moving to the PQ and the Leftist voters will be moving to Quebec Solidaire. Quebecois against separation will remain with the Liberals. The PQ has been moving steadily to the right the past 20 years leaving a hole filled by QS. My two cents
  13. This appears to be the best defense, if not the only defense from the right. We shouldn't condemn Israeli violence because we didn't condemn it somewhere else.
  14. One question which remains unanswered is why did the official story change so much?
  15. I think to most impressive part of this is that is failed by a single vote (49-to-48)!
  16. So your position is that anyone who opposes homosexual marriage is unfit to be in any kind of responsible position in academia? Presumably they're unfit to be doctors, lawyers or politicians too. In fact, shouldn't their children be taken from them and raised by the state? Should there be "reducation camps" for people who are dumb enough to disagree with your political views? Of course it's not his position, where did you get this from?! You see only what you want to see apparently. All he said was that her position is illogical based on her views towards civil unions. I'm blown away by how you could have inferred from his comments that he thinks people who oppose homosexual marriage are unfit to hold positions in academia.
  17. Wow, I never though I'd see this level of ignorance on these boards. In this day an age where just about anything can be looked up on the internet, you would think that people would do their research before posting comments like yours. link
  18. I did not have time to read through the last few pages of this thread and so I apologies in advance . Here is a little history of our state school system (taken from my class notes) 1844 Egerton Ryerson is appointed superintendent of the Canadas 1845 Egerton Ryerson's European tour of school systems The creation of the "normal" school (teacher's college) to standardize teaching Teachers are prohibited from discussing conflict between Canadians 1846 The "well-to-do"(people with power and authority are used as examples) are made into common school visitors. 1850's School regulations are passed stressing punctuality (remember the first thing you learn is how to read a clock), orderly conduct to train and habituate students to working in factories. Basically, our school system is a socializing process put in place to make children think of themselves as middle class and Canada as a classless society believing that no conflict happens hence our warped view on historical facts. "An educated people are always a loyal people to good government; and the first object of a wise government should be the education of its people." Egerton Ryerson
  19. I think US citizens should look at a much more important problem here. Three-level security flaws found in Diebold touch-screens Touch-screens fail security tests, Diebold retaliates Diebold Hack Hints at Wider Flaws Devastating hack proven Testers claim success in Diebold hack What is the point of having a democracy (even if it is a limited one at that) when the election results can be changed at the press of a key.
  20. I posted these numbers to disprove the idea held by certain posters that Israel is innocent and only defending itself. Like you said, these numbers are tabulated by an Israeli organization and they do not include Palestinian injuries or deaths that go unreported in hospitals. Crimes are committed on both sides and the idea that Israel is only defending itself is a fallacy. One must remember Patrice Gueniffey definition of terrorism: A strategy of instituting a quantity of violence of variable intensity having the goal of provoking the greatest amount of terror judge necessary to accomplish the objective which is to communicate a message for which the terrorist believe all other method has failed.(I hope that was accurate since I translated it from French) As a side note, I strongly urge anyone to read Chomsky's & Herman's "The Washington Connection and third world fascism"(unless you are in the United States because it was basically banned for over twenty years) for a greater insight into use the use of state terror.
  21. Funny how selective perspective works. --- Death toll for 2000-2005 Look at the numbers I posted and tell me who is defending themselves. And on a personal note, I’m proud to be a CUPE member.
  22. The "war on terror" is a great excuse to enact draconian laws as well. Librarians forced to shush about Big Brother's watching!
  23. Thank you People must realized what's happening and understand that these policies affect them directly. Yeah, but the media would just bury it in the back pages. Am I right? Is it your contention that the media does not censor the news?
