You should replace preemptive with preventive war. There is a very big difference between the two.

Disinformation and media propaganda
lost&outofcontrol replied to lost&outofcontrol's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
It may of been officially closed but it's policies are still in effect as stated in the articles I posted. Psychological warfare is a completely accepted military practice that has been in existence since ancient times. I have no problem using lies to scare the enemy. What about domestic propaganda? -

The Taliban was opposed to the to the Afghan .gov and toppled it in '96 with the help of the ISI and CIA. They carried out suicide bombing and the killing of civilians during the Soviet war. So they were terrorist then and they are terrorist now. They only thing that has changed is their intended target. So again, it's hypocritical to say we went in Afghanistan because they supported terrorism when infact we supported terrorism since 1979 (and we still do). The end doesn't justify the means. Funny I think it's the other way around like it was during soviet occupation. We need an enemy to justify an illegal war.

Two dimensional thinking and totally ignores the foundatinal reasons why Al Queda exists. Al Queda or, a movement with the same core rationale, belif and mission would have come forth under another name or leader at some point. The above was only the manifestatin it appeared in, not the reason. But my isn't that a double standard? It OK for us to fund a terrorist organization to fight and overthrow our "enemies" but it's wrong for this same terrorist organization to do the same to us?

And they wouldn't be a "problem" if the US hadn't trained and financed them until 1998/99. link and one more. I'll make you a deal, if you read AMERICA'S "WAR ON TERRORISM"by Michel Chossudovsky and still hold on to the same beliefs, I'll never argue with you again, scouts honour. You'll understand why the soviets were left with no other options but to invade Afghanistan and why they did it.

I know but I still have hope. The way I understand it, the foundation of democracy is at stake here. The US was founded on the principals that today we are losing. It's our duty as citizens to question our .govs actions. This is the only way to strike a balance between the interest of the .gov and it's citizens. If we don't, one day we'll wake up in a totalitarian state and wonder how we got there.

It may be legal but doesn't it scare you that it is? Don't you think it's wrong for a government to have that much power? Only is someone like Clinton or Carter is in power. Why do you not want the US to eavesdrop on terrorists? Why do you want terrorists to have so much power? Do you have an agenda? You're kidding right, now you're accusing me of sympathising with "terrorist" because I disagree with a .gov arbitrarily eavesdropping on people's conversations? You should be the next press secretary for the white house. Why not get rid of due process, the government would never accuse someone without them being guilty right?! I don't know what to say, you would of fitted right in the McCarthy era. I though being a conservative was all about reducing .gov powers...

In this thread I will post examples of the media's mistakes, censoring or just plain propaganda. I encourage everyone to add to this thread their own examples. What I'd like people to get from this thread is the power of the media on manipulating its viewers opinions. First example: London subway bombing. London Bombers Tied to Al-Qaeda Plot in Pakistan ABC News jumping the gun. It was Al-Qaeda Blair said, "Al-Qaeda is not an organization. Al-Qaeda is a way of working ... but this has the hallmark of that approach." Fox News When in fact there are no links to Al-Qaeda Second: Madrid bombing Al-Quaeda link It's the jump to conclusion game. Alleged connections to Al-Qaeda Man accused of being the Al-Qaeda terror network Again, the media jumped the gun and no link was found. Planting of News Stories in Iraqi Press Fake TV News, Video news releases and corporate propaganda made to look like genuine news. Office of Strategic Influence(OSI) which really is the office of propaganda. White House Plays Down Propaganda by Military- Have to login or just install the BugMeNot FireFox extension Pentagon Debates Propaganda Push in Allied Nations - same as above Censoring The US military use of white phosphorus shells during the battle of Fallujah. Link How to Destroy a City to Save It U.S. uses napalm gas in Fallujah

I worked for Taima on a 6 month contract 5 or 6 years ago. After that 6 months, I was glad my contract was over.

Do you work for Taima Inc (or is it Synergy Inc now) ? What does Washington have to do with this issue? Sorry, I meant the Washington concensus.

First the choice was between a giant douche and a turd sandwich and second whether a democrat or a republican is in the white house, the real power lies within the military and intelligence apparatus. Civilian political institutions including the US congress increasingly becomes a facade. A journalist ask Bush in a 2000 interview what he though about the Taliban, Bush though he was talking about a rock band!

Ottawa's Montfort Hospital
lost&outofcontrol replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The Montfort has 289 beds, the Ottawa hospital has 1195 beds. Both number do not include the extra beds set aside for long-term care. Montfort is much smaller as it doesn't offer many of the services the Ottawa hospital does. Here are some better statistics: Montfort emergency patients - 32,097 per year Ottawa hospital emergency patients - 117,500 per year Children's hospital(just beside the General campus) emergency patients - 51,158 per year I'll post heir annual budget when I find the figures. -
Quote from Quebec MP Andre Arthur
lost&outofcontrol replied to Harpo's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I lived in Quebec city for just over a year and that quote is just the tip of the iceberg. That guy has wet dreams about living in a fascist state where of course he'd be in charge. The crap he says is absolutely incredible but then again, he's a political shock jock. -
Ottawa's Montfort Hospital
lost&outofcontrol replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The Riverside campus is a 30 secs drive away from the General Campus. All I wanted to do is correct you on the point that Riverside was not being closed. Don't get me wrong I agree with you that Riverside should of kept the Emergency care clinics. I think the amalgamation was a bad idea in the first place. A "cost saving measure" that ended up costing Ontarians 3 billions $. And with the impending complete takeover of the LHINs, this will mean fewer nurses, fewer MRI technologists, and we will have to travel farther to many different “centralized” locations to "health services". Sorry to go OT on your thread. -

lost&outofcontrol replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Not that I like the Liberal .gov(any any .gov for that matter) but the Riverside is not being closed down. They closed the Emergency care and walk in clinics in favour of expanding the Civic and General campuses. I work at the General campus and we now handle most the supplying for the Riverside campus. I don't necessarily agree with the policy but you should at least post correct information. What we should really concerned be with in Ontario are LHINs (Local Health Integration Networks ). Another round of amalgamation that will end up costing in the end more per year like the last one and an unelected unaccountable board who will control the largest part of the Ontario Budget.
