You can easily limit the amout of bandwidth per user stopping people's ability to leech off the majority of the bandwidth. Your strawman defense is weak; the services will suck so we shouldn't do it. Those damn unions ! We already pay on average more for internet access than many coutries, the telcos are always trying to screw us out of a bit more. vonage files complaint against shaw

uhm oook(confused here), so what was untrue with GostHacked post then? You just agreed with him and yet you said "Most of what you said is untrue." 2 posts earlier ! I was just trying to prove that what he said was true. Get off the horse buddy. -

Knights of the Communal Order
lost&outofcontrol replied to Winterhaze13's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They are both ran by dictators as state-capitalist countries, a communist state would allow multi-party elections and a open judicial system without the death penalty. Of course if you base your opinion on countries like the soviet union, N Korea etc.. communism will leave a bad taste in your mouth but people have to understand that there hasn't been a communist state up to now. They are plain old dictatorships thinly veiled behind the communist banner. -

I promise this is the last time I'll be asking this question. Do you seriously believe that Cuba and North Korea are communist states ? -

If the job cannot be filed because it pays badly, that means the offered wage should be increased, you know, 'supply-demand'. By filling the position with kids, you are artificially keeping wages low. Unlike the US, we don't have a readily available workforce willing to accept lower than average wages to fill these positions, you know, 'supply-demand'. -
Knights of the Communal Order

So what you're basically saying is that if you/everybody were to make the right choices in life, we'd all be rich ? That's laughable. It's not about resentment. Some facts for you: In the United States, 10% of the people control over 70% of the wealth. Again in the United States, property crimes reported to the FBI cost Americans $3 to $4 billion per year while corporate and "white collar" crime cost over $200 billion a year yet all we see is cop shows chasing after the "bad guys". The share of the corporate tax burden has declined from 25% in the 50's to less than 10% today. Almost 1/5 Canadians live below the poverty level so don't tell me it's a "choice". Capitalism functions like a big pyramid, don't you think everybody wants to be the movie star or the rich CEO? The ruling class of democracy is and always will be the same. It's like that South Park episode where the kids have to vote of either a big douche or a turd sandwich, as long as the choices are almost the same nothing will change. Tell me what are the major differences between the two political parties in the US. Multi-national corporations become so powerful that we end up with the Indonesian scenario where they can dictate what the government has to do to appease them and how to do it(mass murder of "dissidents"). You said(I can't believe you actually said this!) ; This only works when you need a highly qualified labour. Do you think Dell, Wallmart or the vast majority of these corporations employ all of their workers in this fashion? This applies to a very very small minority of workers. And you know what happens to a "highly qualified" worker, he eventually becomes replaceable with a cheaper alternative. **edit** Take 10 mins to read this, that's all I ask. Capitalism works because of the imbalance of power between the classes. Don't like your job, there's a bunch of others who want it, wanna buy a house, you have to get a loan with the bank dictating the rules. Look at what free market capitalism has done to Mexico, Bangladesh(especially this country), most eastern European and African nations(Kenya for a very good example) since the creation of the WTO. The few will always control the many. As for the platform of the Communal Knighthood, it's still a capitalist system albeit a very socialist one burdened with the same problems as our current system. For as long as people can amass property, there will be an imbalance in power by creating different classes. -

Time to get rid of the CPC?

Please enlighten me then. Tell me just how misinformed my last post was ? You should be on cnn, you're right up there with Cooper and Blitzer, why take on the issues when you can just attack the person on the other side. "No Mr. L&OC, youre opinion isn't different from mine, you're just misinformed". -
Time to get rid of the CPC?
lost&outofcontrol replied to uOttawaMan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Where were you in the NDP thread ? uOttawaMan (I think) doesn't really want to get rid of the CPC, he just started this thread to show you and others that eliminating parties whether you agree or disagree with their policies, is just plain stupid. It's just a reverse of the NDP thread. Look at the American system, the only difference between the Democrats and Republicans is that one has the power and the other one doesn't. We can't always have political parties trying to appeal to everyone. When that happens, they lose sight of the end goal which is to better our country and its citizens. We end up arguing over little things(watch CNN for 10mins to see what I mean) that have no effect on anyone's lives and the voice of a large portion of the population gets lost. We need to keep questioning our society's values and the "status quo"; how else will we evolve if we just accept what is given to us. my two cents... -

NOTE: I'm also replying to Hicksey here. Your definition of communism is off, Cuba and the soviet union were state run capitalist countries and not communist countries. People may not be born physically/intellectually equal but why this be a reason for some to spend a life of misery ? It's like nationalism, why should people be proud of were they were born and think they are entitled to more just because they were born in a "developed" country ? As for living in a straw hut, almost half the population of the world either lives in one or would be happy to have one.And why would you not want to work ? Spend 2 months on your ass doing nothing, you'll be happy to work after that. It's human nature to want to work and better yourself. For materiel things, communism would work in a system of reciprocal altruism. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours basically. Again, I think people need to remove themselves form a capitalistic mindset to better understand communism. Communism isn't a totalitarian one-party state running the economy and controlling citizen’s lives where political rights are repressed like it was in the soviet union. Stop accepting the status quo and start questioning the "establishments". You'll only better yourselves and what you learn can't really hurt. Alright, I'm done. Hope I didn't sound nuts.

Actually the last quote is from the official platform of the Communist Party of Canada. Both loathe private business and both want an unmotivated population where everyone scrapes by from month to month with table scraps from the wealthy (but lives in subsidized housing) elitist Dear Leader. I'd like to know why you think that last quote is wrong/bad ? I'm not judging you by the way or anything. In a communist world, there is no "wealthy to live off and no elitist leaders. The whole point of living isn't trying to amass capital (hence control over others) anymore, it's to enrich your life. I don't know about you but working 4 days a week with 7 hrs shifts while learning and understanding the world better sounds pretty sweet to me. The problem I think people have is that they look at a communist world through capitalist eyes. I know I'm opening a can of worms here but I'd like to keep the flames to a minimum.

As long as the torys stick to their election promises I see them getting a majority (and a nice bump in overall support) in the next election. Interesting to see the NDP finally picking up support, we might be seeing a shift in support from the center left away from the Liberals to the NDP as the "2nd" party and not the ".5" ?
-
(on the CPC) I'm not saying they are fascists. I'm saying that if they had a majority, they would probably push for fascism. They're wolves in sheeps clothing. They have such radical right wing views. If we agree that fascism is furthest to the right, then... why would be support a party that is also to the right ? ...But the CPC are right behind fascism, I'm sure we can all agree on that? Do you see how much sense your post made now ? It's no more true on the right than it is on the left.
