You underestimate NDP supporters if you think they would'nt lend votes to the Liberals to defeat the Conservatives. Or at the least, paralyze them with a minority government. The Liberals are anywhere but down and out. I suppose a healthy ignorance and oblivion to the current political climate would lead you to make a remark like that.

I can't complain too much about that...I respect Broadbent although I would never vote NDP. WHat Broadbent says seems accurate as well. The NDP are projected to nearly double their seats. But, in the dying days of therace, I can see that number diminshing alot as scared voters do return to the Liberal flock.

On your signature ... "It may not be true, but it's legendary that if you're like all Americans, you know almost nothing except for your own country. Which makes you probably knowledgeable about one more country than most Canadians." -- Stephen Harper I think he's partially right. Considering the number people I've talked to that vote Liberal out of family tradition but have no clue who the leader of the party is, I have no doubt. Those of us here have made it our business to know. But a lot more people than any of us care to admit fit into that category. The only reason that this would be an issue is if you hold a badge for the PC Police Force. And a lot of Americans are in the same boat. If you have ever watched the show Street Smarts you know what I mean. "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives." -- John Stuart Mill Is this man a conservative? "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it." -- John F. Kerry Nope. And he's about as useful as used toilet paper. So your test has failed after only one subject. That's right ladies and gentelmen, anybody who votes Liberal is a comlete and utter moron. We had better vote Conservative now... I'm convinced!!! What about Conservative voters who do the same? Oh...they don't get a mention in your post... asshat...

Martin Says Harper Will "Politicize" Court
Boru replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good call. The Supreme Court is already full, to the best of my knowledge, and at the end of the day thats the only one that matters. I think there is a vacancy now actually, which is good. Who knows, maybe Harper will appoint someone qualified. And by qualified, you surely mean Conservative. If you think the Liberals haven't put qualified judges into the SUpreme Court, than your just one more in the unintelligable Conservative mob wetting themselves over the Liberal self-destruction. Honeslty...there is some sort of requirement to being nominated as a Supreme Court judge...you know, experience....knowledge of law...etc....etc.... The fact the te Liberals have stacked the court is no different than what Harper will do, and what Mulroney did as well. What martin is appealing to is the massive amount of Conservative supporters who are in fact Liberal minded, but have lost faith in the current Liberal party. Yes...we want change in government, accountability, etc...but we don't want any Conservative agenda directing where our country goes long-term. Martin is simply trying to convince that voting portion that they are making much more than a protest vote by bringing in Harper. Is he right? No, I don't think so. But it's a valid point nonehteless. -
Hilarious...hae to throe your partisan nonsense in there didn't you?

Not in Quebec, not as far as they've come in Ontario. The Liberals will not win this election. It's a question of majority or not. Ontario will smarten up when they realise that they want to be represented in a government, and vote Conservative. I don't know many from Toronto that are ok with being ruled by the French and the Rednecks. I ahve to admit I don't totally understand who you are calling rednecks.... if anything, redneck would apply much more to the average Conservative supporter and Liberal. As for representation, Ontario has always done very well under the Liberals. There's a reason why the Liberal's base support is in Ontario, and that won't change any time soon. Many people, like you I think, are making the mistake of believing people are voting Conservative in ontario. They are voting against the Martin lead Liberals. I ca find no other explanation for Ontario leaning blue, then darting back to the red when it looks like the Conservatives may well cruise into office. Although you now take a Conservative victory for granted, the race isn't over yet. All the Liberals need to do is win over 4 or 5% in Ontario and a whole slew of seats will come back to their camp. I was sarcastically calling myself and follow westerners rednecks. I know we aren't, just what I've been called by Easterners (even though I lived much of my life in T.O.). If everyone's voting against Liberals in Ontario, its pretty safe to assume most are voting for Conservatives. There can't possibly be that many extreme-left folk out there to all vote NDP (and the NDP's numbers are unchanged pretty much). Unless they are all voting Christian Hertiage Party or Communist. You are right about the 4 or 5%. It won't happen though, the Liberals have alienated enough people with their off the cuff promises (notwithstanding clause for one, I hope no Canadian supports giving the country to the courts). As well, they no longer have full control of the ethnic group after they alienated religious ethnic groups with SSM. Haha, that's quite a contentious issue. What you call giving Canada to the courts, I call a check on governemnt extremism. The notwithstanding clause is a tool that removes much of the Constitution's legitimacy. Although some rights cannot be tinkered with, many can, as displayed by Quebec and the threatening Ralph Klein. The NDP numbers are little changed. With the Liberal support decaying, it could lead to another dozen-15 NDP seats, depending upon how it plays out. But, while you thinkit is impossible, I think it is more than possible, even likely, that a sizable NDP base in Ontario will once again lend their votes to the Liberals. 17%-18* nationwide is a good chunk of votes, and more than enough to put the Liberals over the top if even a quarter of that were to strategically vote Martin.] I don't know if it will happen, but you utterly discounting it as an impossibility is extremely hopeful. PS- It doesn't take an extreme socialist to vote for NDP. Several moderates vote for them believing that it gives a healthy opposition to the top two right wing parties of Canada.

No kidding, if your going to do that, at least do it right. He must have been a Lib - not to bright. Hilarious... At least put some effort into those witty one liners of yours...

Ladies and gentelmen, we have a Conservative caucus insider here.

I can smell burning paper all the way from Calgary. And you can bet, if they do come into power, Conservative writers will be concocting all sorts of Liberal scandals for years to come. The evry essence of negativity. I find it hysterical that Harper's sheep keep bleating about how the other leaders are using negative approaches... I'm not saying that they aren't. But Harper has made as much use of negativity as any other leader throughout this election,a nd over the past 3 years.
-
No kidding, if your going to do that, at least do it right. This candidate should withdraw from the race or not be allowed to sit as a Liberal when elected. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and those that work for them. These are not payed employees. They are volunteers. Did the Conservatives drop out fo the entire provincial election because a moron in their ranks authorized an ad calling Dalton McGuinty a vicious kitten eater? According to your logic, they should ahve just dropped it. Wait a minute...I've forgotten one very crucial fact here. The current sexual assault idiocy involves a Liberal. When it's the Liberals, it's time to tack responsibility for one's own actions. When it's a Conservative, well....you know...let's just forget about it. Kids will be kids. The employee didn't reflect the intentions of the party. Once again, partisan hypocrisy at it's worst.

All polls, except those run by CTV, show the Liberals slowly gaining ground on the Conservatives. It seems the momentum on the Conservatives fantastic campaign ahs run dry and they are starting to sputter. But is it too little too late? While all polls have to be taken in with some wariness for the margin of error, one thing iseems clear. Ontario is swinging back to the Liberals. Are we in for a repeat of 2004? The Conservatives were enjoying similar small leads nationally, but were rejected by Ontario when it came to voting day.
-
Just saw that on CBC. Pretty pathetic, all this slander, its all the have left. I haven't heard the Liberals mention policy for days... actually yet this campaign. harhar. If you haven't heard policy form the Liberals, then it's because you're not listening. Some fo the posts I'm seeing from the more extreme Conservative supporters these days is honestly throwing me off. There's something fishy about this sexual assault allegation... Surely, anyone who has half a brain cell knows how easy it is to track a call, and that the call would surely be traced... It seems likely to me that a moronic low level volunteer is behind this, much like the genius who came out with the famous Chretien and Kitten eater ads.

If there is anyone playing poker with the lives of gay people, it is none other than the party who nobly purported to protect them. The Liberals are scaring the pants off the gays and lesbians, using them in a cheap trick just like they used the military. The Conservatives had stated their stance regarding the issue in the past, and future should Harper becomes PM. He said he'll bring it up as an open vote and if it gets defeated....he'll let it rest. I don't see anything wrong with being open and honest. Of course. Conservativism = 100 % honesty, responsible government, evangelical Liberal = lying turds. I can't, for the life of me, understand how people like you can complain aboutLiberal vote getting tactics... Who accused the Liberals of supporting child pornography? Hmm... nope, no scare tactivs there. Complete and total honesty. Honestly, pull your head out of your ass. All 3 of the major parties are using scare tactics to get votes.
-
Such as? Besides, you just know Klein has an ace up his sleeve...waiting for the right moment to bring it out and send the Conservatives to ruin.
-
Make us sick? A bit strong... Their freedom is, as you said, newly acquired. Why are people surprised that Canadians are complacent about a right they've had their entire lives?
-
Especially with how we treat our Native population right Boru? Like I said, an ongoing, and uphill battle. But, while there is room for improvement, I will go back to my point of comparing to the United States. Who, Geoffrey, treats their native peoples better? Canada or the United States? That was my point. I didn't say we were perfect, Goeffrey, I simply compared Canada favorably to the United States. You simply ignored that and spun my comment out of context. A poor job of it too.
-
Disregarding the facts? I would prefer to say they are spinning the facts, and what's wrong with that? Elections ahve never been pretty, and all parties have showna willingness to do whatever it takes to win seats. Sure, the NDP can claim to a more honorable campaign... ( arugable maybe, but I think it's true)...but a party has the luxury to do that when they have absolutely no prospect of winning. Give the NDP 10% more of the national vote and watch the slime fly.
-
You took the words right out fo my mouth. This is most definately not a partisan issue. This applies to Coservative supporters as much as Lsocial supporters. Some very valid points raised here. You pointedly remarked that some people take their right to vote lightly. That's very true. But you have to remember that it is human anture to covet what we don't have, and to take what we do have for granted. You can shake them all you want, but it will change very little. At least they are voting...which is more than can be said for many...
-
When new groups are fighting for their rights, there will always be a period of conflict and turmoil. But make no mistake, no matter what some extreme Conservatives desire, gay rights aren't going anywhere. It would be very difficult for Harper to reopen that issue without shooting himself in the foot. He has bought disillusioned Liberal votes under the pretext of being a progressive Conservative. He won't forget that when he is in power, not if he wants to hold onto any seats outside of Alberta come next election. And as for you, yank abroad, who are you to criticize Canada? In some states, the population still has trouble accepting racial miniroties. Alongsiode the Stars and Stripes, Canada will always be a shining beacon of tolerance and understanding, and that's the truth.

LIBERALS SPEND YOUR TAX DOLLARS ON VACATIONS OVERSEAS!
Boru replied to Uncle_Jalapneno's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There's a lack of options on the poll questipn. Who cares who I vote for? They are all essentially the same thing. Corruptable by power. If you think there won't be Conservative scandals and corruption when they are in power, then you living in as much a fairy tale world as NDP supporters expecting a landslide Layton majority. You need an option reflecting that general idea. -
Strategic 17/01/2006 Liberal 24 CPC 42 NDP 17 Bloc 12 Green 5 SES CPAC 17/01/2006 Liberal 32 CPC 37 NDP 18 Bloc 10 Green 4 I find it hard ot believe that two polls could yield two results so differently. Do you think it's possible that even polls are being run in ways to favour one aprty over another? I'm not saying any one is more valid than the other at this point, but as you can see, one poll displays an 18 point lead, whiel the other a 5 point lead. I don't think any margin of error can quite cover that spread. I have no idea, but just thought it interesting. What do you think? Is this one conspiracy theory too many?
-
How are polls delusion land? I remember , going into the final days of the last election, that you Conservatives were jumping up and down that the Conservative time ahd come, Christ ahs returned, etc...etc... and they still lost. The election is far from over. A 6 point leadis anything but decisive. As for Martin and his band of "cronies." I can't say I've heard a more idiotic catch phrase in quite a while. Thanks for the laugh.
-
Definately not on the bandwagon, I've been a Conservative member since the conception of the party, a PC member before that. Maybe if you looked at the rest of what I had to say on this issue (in this thread) I raise very valid points. I read the entirety of your posts. You claimed that since we youth have only personally seen a Liberal govenrment, we cannot believe in any other outcome. I left this one alone, because it may have some relevance to those youth who cannot read[/b. We may not have memories of it, but we can read. The infamous Mulroney governemnt is not ancient history... Your remark on internet voting was a good one, if it could ever be made secure. Other than that, you just said there would be a definate conservative swing in youth. I'm not qure why you'd think so, because youth have never voted Conservative. And it would be diofficult to imagine youth voting for Conservatism. The very essence of idealism that is the basis of the Left wing finds it's home base in univetsities... So yes, your assumption of a rightward swing in Youth voting is based on nothing more than a bseless partisan comment.

CTV Today's polls showed the Liberals closing the gap a little bit as far as I can see. Liberal 30 SES CPAC CPC 37 NDP 18 Bloc 10 Green 4 Liberal 30 CPC 36 EKOS NDP 19 Bloc 12 Green 3 I personally would'nt trust a CTV run poll very much. It would'nt be beyond them to phone 100 Albertas residents and call that arepresentation of the national intent...
