  1. CTV Today's polls showed the Liberals closing the gap a little bit as far as I can see. Liberal 30 SES CPAC CPC 37 NDP 18 Bloc 10 Green 4 Liberal 30 CPC 36 EKOS NDP 19 Bloc 12 Green 3
  2. Aspers are Liberals, get your story straight. The National Post was only really conservative under Mr. Black. And there is nothing wrong with a Liberal media outlet, in fact, I welcome it. Not funded by taxpayers though. Publicly funded TV is dangerous, no matter how long the arms length its operatthd at is. I shouldn't have to pay for Liberal TV just because its not commericially viable. You get your story straight. The great and legendary Izzy Asper was a proud Conservative, and he went as far as to fire editorialists who ventured too far left of his own positions.
  3. That's quite an assumption to make. As a member of this youth being discussed here, I can say that it isn't an assumption of Liberal victory that drives us away from participation. When chatting over lunch, political debate doesn't often figure in. Consider the only two parties that have ever been elected. The Liberals and Conservatives. Are they really so different? What has this campaign been fought over? Issues?--- Hello no. Political Ideology? -- Only on a superficial level ( ie. Harper is a right wing devil, Layton is a communist...) It has been fought over scandals, both real and imaginary. How much interest will this generate among the most ideal segment of Canada's population? Whether right wing or left wing, it's the youth that stand by their principles the most. In a two party system such as ours, an election that is focused on quibbling by 2 leaders who represent virtually the same thing, you cannot possibly expect to garner interest among the youth vote. * I am going too far by calling our political system a 2 party system, especially in comparison to our southern neighbour, but I feel that ours unjustifiably supports the two tradiaionally incumbant parties. Make Canadian politics more representative. How? It's as easy as relaxing the funding rules a little bit to allow the 2 fringe parties ( NDP and Green), to receive as much money as the Conservative and Liberal parties lavish on themselves to slime eachother to death over a two month election drive. That would be a start. If the CPC wins this election, you'll see youth vote numbers increase again. And a shift to the right in youth voting patterns. A statement like this is oversimplistic and shows a lack of real motivation to understand why there is no youth interest in politics. This is just another one line blurb by a harper bandwagon hopper.
  4. The Globe and Mail have basically endorsed Haper and the Conservatives and CBC may be considered pro-Liberal but I would never consider it pro-NDP...Larry Zolf could never be called pro-NDP. You might hear more about the NDP on CBC because the CTV at times doesn't even talk about the NDP, like they didn't exist. Often when Craig Oliver is asked about how he sees the election, he won't even mention the NDP unless someone asks him specifically about them. And regards to columnists, Sheila Copps might have some NDP sympathies but she can't touch the many, many pro-Conservatives columnists out there, such as Ezra Levant, Paul Jackson, Peter Worthington, Charles Adler, Tom Brodbeck and on and on and on, when it comes to spin. My apologies... There was a time when the Globe and Mail was pro-Liberal and proud of it. If that has changed, good. CBC is without a doubt a network of the Liberals and NDP. If Harper will be coming on, that is good. Of course. Any media outlet endorsing anything other than Conservative is the devil... Any newspaper ever touched by the Asper family is decided Conservative before even examining the issues. Since that covers a good deal of Canada's media, Conservative supporters cannot complain about the slimmer number od media sources that advocate the Liberals.
  5. As long as Paul martin is leader, isn't it possible that he prop a Conservative government? While there is bound to be some bad blood between the two parties, the ideals of these two men are alot closer together than those of a typical Liberal and Conservative leader. Paul martin, on a wide range of issues ( economics and finance) sits far right of center. Do you guys think Harper could simply buy Liberal votes with sound budgeting?
  6. People were killed because of a few, radical, and mentally unstable individuals attempted to establish a terrorist organization in Quebec. That was not Trudeau's doing. As for the West, it was feeling alientate dlong befoer Trudeau came along. I realize their was a fight over how the oil proceeds were to be distributed and used, but that is a matter of provincial-federal relations. That was also an issue LONG before Trudeau came along. Trudeau was a federalist, and he was elected to bring those policies into government. Dangerous offender? Please... Stupid, over simplistic, statements like these aren't consturctive and they just serve to show an inability to put together a coherent argument. Radical Conservatives hated Trudeau. We all know that. And just as many people, if not more, loved him.
  7. They may have missed the boat but I respect their honesty. Yes, as do I. But how much will honesty get them? Honesty definately won't get them the party funding that the Liberals and Conservatives lavish on themselves to finance their mudslinging.
  8. Why should they be driven by anthing else other than electoral ambitions? The Conservatives have abandoned any pretense of standing for ideology. They , like the Liberlas, are running a totally negative campaign. And it's paying off! People may later be shocked when they see the issues that the extreme right-wing faction will bring the the House. Make no mistake, this election is not about ideology, or even platform. The NDP have missed the boat and campgined hard on platform, and it's gotten them little result.
  9. This post is just pure insanity. Trudeau won his governemnts for a reason. He was supported by the majority of Canadians for a reason. There is nothing about this that equates to "dangerous offender" A completely unintelligent , unfair, and ridiculous statement.
  10. Some of what you say is misleading. The one that jumps out at me is the health care The Liberals didn't give us universal health care. The public system we benefit from today came as a result of a Liberal minority government working in coalition with the NDP. But this is besides the point. It's unfair to attribute today's leaders with past party mistakes, as well as triumphs. You selectively mention what parties have done to champion the Liberal cause. The Liberals have given us 8 straight years of surplus. How did they do that? Under martin's direction, they slashed funding across the board more than any Conservative PM ever has... You want to reach back into history? Well, which party was it decided to draft troops for World War 2? ( This being after they promised not to..._ I'm not a Conservative supporter, but Martin has had his chance. The fact that he survived to take office after the scandal initially erupted was a godsend to the Liberals, and they blew it. What did they do in that time? They knew that they had an election coming. Martin knew he had to leave an impression, make an impact... In my opinion, many people aren't voting for Conservatiove, but against Martin. If the party had a leader with his integrity intact, then he would have had no trouble taking over the reigns of Chretiens majority. If Harper gets his chance now, which is not a certainty, then so be it.
  11. That's right. Where parties draw seperate lines at different places is when you talk about doctor's selling their services directly to the public. Needless to say, some can afford this, and some can't. It would cut waiting lists, times, increase the quality of public health care by making it more affordable to the government... Second class citizens would get second class health care... All sorts of propaganda swirls around this.
  12. I was thinking along those same lines. How can Conservative supporters claim Jack Layton to have his ahnd in people's pocket, when Harper's the only one who will literally be doing just that. Say whatever you want about the end result of the parties policies, and I'm not advocating the NDP ideology by any means, but this entire thread is total hypocrisy. Personally, I think the lower bracket would be better served with keeping their Liberal tax cut than the creation of a few more, part-time, grocery store cashier jobs.
  13. This is nonsense. Did he pay money? -- No. Is the institute for profit? -- No Was his service covered 100% by OHIP? -- Yes Seriously, this is a stretch. Just a pathetic attempt at mud slinging, likely meant to divert attention from the Conservative border runners.
  14. You just have to love how when it is a conservative "people are allowed to have their day in court before they're found guilty", but even with exhonoration of Martin by Justice Gomery, he has stilll been tarred and feathered with the no regard to the facts. If this candidate nominated the judge presiding over the case, then maybe he could be more confident like Martin was, by appointing Gomery. Idiot Politician, drop the bs about Martin being exhonorated, we all know Martin could never be found anything BUT innocent. If someone else had have done the investigation, he'd have been found guilty!! I get so tired of hearing this same line of BS from sad-sack Liberals. This is nonsense. Martin was exhonorated by due process. That's the end of it. There's no point in tale spinning or conspiracy theorizing. The fact that this is still the main issue dogging the Liberals shows how pathetic a campaign they are running. What strikes me about this minor Conservative scandal is the lack of organization it demonstrates in the party. You'd think it a simple matter to get a criminal background check, and pending charges are the first thing that would pop up. If the Conservativs can't manage the profiles of their own delegates, how can they manage to govern a country? Stephen Harper's response to this was definately inadequate., passing off responsibility to nameless subordinates.
