What's wrong these days is the economy and women working. In the 1950's the majority of women stayed home raised the kids themselves and children grew up spending time bonding and being nurtured with their parents (yes mom primarily). Now it is mom that has to fling the kids off to daycare then zoom to work and then after a tiring/stressful day pick up kids and cook supper (some frozen shit that can be slapped on a plate in 15 minutes) great life huh? Then after the kids hate the supper you heated up it is dishes, help with homework or playtime for 5 minutes, bath and then you drop dead from exhaustion - sorry hubby no sex tonight or ever because I'm too tired. Total time spent with kids 3 hours from sun up until bedtime. Time at daycare 8+ hours. Then to top this off you pay a huge amount of salary on daycare and then clothing for work to impress the boss. What is wrong with this picture?

Programs that aren't productive in the federal government come on now. I think they should outsource all administration of these programs. Base the contract on performance goals and if they don't meet them penalize them and then retender the contract.

French in Ottaw for any public service job is a must now even an entry level position. Everyone just shrugs and goes along with this BS. Eveyone at a certain level in the federal government: RCMP, mil, public service etc has to have a " suitable" French profile even if they never use it except for saying a few token words at a meeting or other speaking event. For example a chief warrant officer and colonels and above have to be bilingual. What a waste of time and money. It takes approx 10 months full-time on the french course to half ass speak french and you forget 90% in the first year because you don't use it. Bone-swar.

The piont Im trying to make to you(which has already been made to you by sparhawk, in my opinion) is that the CBC cannot exist as a competently run source of information distinct from the bias' of a market-based info source, without our tax-dollars. So I am trying to defend against your idea of tampering with the balance of media and further consolidating information through the filter of corporate influence. Well Canadian artist have contributed a hell-of-alot more than the $2.50per month it costs each of us for the CBC. You must be pinching your pennies pretty hard. Why don't they do fund raising like PBS? I really don't watch CBC that much anymore. I can say HNIC is what most folks watch on CBC and would prefer my $2.50 a month spent elsewhere. If they can't be self sufficient like CTV then farewell CBC.
