  1. Do Canada and the United States allow each others' citizens exemptions when it comes to immigration from either of those countries to the other or are they treated like any other foreigners who have to fulfill requirements for immigration?
  2. Let's try to explain the nature of the electoral college in an analogy a Canadian would understand. Imagine there was a hockey series of best of seven matches and a team A beat team B by four games to three. The individual games would be 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 for the team A and 0-5, 0-5, 0-5 for the team B. Team A win by four games to three though the number of goals is 4-15 against them.
  3. I was earlier too embarrassed to ask as I didn't understand what that millenials voting meant. Glad I figured it out myself. Or did I? Those who have had the vote only since the year 2000?
  4. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. These people have had a president to their liking for the past eight years and maybe they will have another in four years time. In the meantime they have to put up with somebody they don't like. Soros is instigating all this and these people who are there protesting don't realise that they are being used as pawns in a very cynical game.
  5. Some Californians are toying with the idea of a Calexit. Go ahead. Last time there was an attempted secession just over 150 years ago that was a roaring success.
  6. I'm sure Trump doesn't mind but it left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth about the election that Trump won only because of the electoral system, not because he would have received more votes than his rival, which he couldn't do. It might be that in the next four years he will be reminded time and again that he doesn't have a "proper mandate" On one hand the elctoral system favours the Republicans which win in smaller rural states which are naturally more Republican-leaning and are overrepresented in the elctoral college in relation to their true size- On the other hand demographic changes favour the Democrats and in the future it will become more difficult for the Republicans to win elections. g
  7. Hillary lost in all the states where she lost to Sanders in the primaries. The conclusion is that unlike what was said Sanders' supporters did not support Hillary.
  8. This was considered as a surprise but when you come to think of it was it such a surprise after all? The media and the elite seem to have created a bubble for themselves to live in and that bubble doesn't reflect the reality of ordinary people. When the bubble bursts the reactions are shock and horror. I wonder how many people living in the real world reacted to the election-result by saying "told you so".
  9. They can't ignore the result of the referendum. They can hold another referendum and hope for a different result but ignoring a referendum, no matter how non-binding it was, would set a dangerous precedent.
  10. Finally this circus is over soon. Are they going to publish the results of the eastern states when the voting has ended while the voting is still going on in the west? HRC would mean status quo, which means we are heading for the worse when as Trump could mean anything from major improvement of things to a total catastrophe.
  11. I think the US presidential-races always start far too early but now you are really exaggerating.
  12. I'm glad it's over in four days time. It is getting insane with the mud-slinging on both sides. Whichever of them loses he/she is well-adviced to leave the country before the winner takes office in January. From the past elections one easily got the impression that the candidates didn't really dislike each other but there was even mutual respect and fair game. Not this time around. Either of these candidates wouldn't hesitate to throw the other one into jail if only given a reason.
  13. Immigration is not a problem if there wasn't cultural relativism. That means different rules for different people because of differences in cultures. Things which would be zero tolerance for the mainstream-population but are looked through the fingers for some groups of people because of their culture. I don't know if you have that thing going on in Canada, hopefully not, but it sure exists here in Finland. Numerous examples happening all the time. Horrible double standards adopted by the authorities. in
  14. ATM's are disappearing fast. It seems that people are gradually weaned off using cash. However, cash will never disappear completely simply because it would be more difficult to cheat in taxes if there is no cash and everybody wants to cheat in their taxes. Some of us just don't have the opportunity to do so.
  15. The stupidest argument in favour of immigration but unfortunately often used one is the ageing population-argument. By importing immigrants to address the problem of ageing population is like curing a hangover by having another drink. The incomers should be of some use and not just young to make the statistics look better. It is inevitable that a lot of the so-called low-skilled jobs where immigrants these days are employed will disappear in the future. Mass unemployment will be the new normal even in case of no immigration at all.
  16. I myself haven't really travelled anywhere, it's something that other people do, but my mother and her late husband ie my late step-father really travelled far and wide all over the world on every continent and made even two round the world trips. They told me that the worst and most frightening places they visited where they really felt unsafe were some of the Central-American countries such as Belize, Salvador and Honduras. They told me that even though Brazil is rough but it is such a big country that it has a lot of good areas but those aforementioned Central-American countries were horrible.
  17. I don't know about what happens over there where you are but here in Finland those "women only" swimming events mean that they are for muslim women and yet they still even swim in those ridiculous veils.
  18. Ok, point taken. I remember how as a kid I always wondered what's the point of having so many different countries in South- and Central-america because excluding Brazil and a couple of other smaller countries they are all Spanish-speaking. Later on it was easy to realise why there are so many different countries though they are all "Spanish". Actually isn't the indigenous language(s) in Paraguay and Bolivia the most spoken language in those countries? Spanish only serving as the official language.
  19. Is it common that Americans or Canadians have travelled extensively in Europe but have never explored their own continent? Countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador etc? The usual excuse for Americans for their lack of travel is that it is expensive. I'm sure they are right that it is expensive to cross the ocean. However, it can't be that expensive to travel to South-America. Or is it that you just don't care the rest of the American continent?
  20. It is very difficult for Europeans to move to Canada if you are over 35, you have no special skills which are in short supply in Canada or you don't have any close relatives already living in Canada. That's exactly how it should be especially in a country which is a very attractive destination worldwide for immigration. Different rules for different people is just the problem. Perhaps it's now just the other way round than it used to be. I don't know about the history of immigration into Canada but in Australia up until the 70's they preferred European immigration only. British and Irish given the precedence. Italians or Greeks were already on the borderline are they acceptable. These days it's the other way round.
  21. Canada is probably the third or fourth most desirable destination for immigration with the USA and Britain being easily the top two countries. The quality of immigration entering your country is very much different to European countries such as France, Belgium or the Netherlands or even Finland. Hence the total absence of anti-immigration sentiment in your politics.
  22. Now 85% likelihood that Clinton will win. So we are told by the trustworthy media which never lies or even exaggerates anything. So it must be true then. However, just days before the Brexit-vote in Britain everybody was sure that remain would win but look what happened. Trump winning would at least be good entertainment not least because blood vessels would snap in many heads out of sheer anger and frustration.
  23. Tim Kaine must be rubbing his hands as he knows he will become president very soon. Perhaps in 1-2 years time at the latest. Who on earth is he anyway? A total nobody hardly anyone outside the US has ever heard of and now he is going to sneak into presidency through the back door.
  24. The idea of either of these candidates winning just shows how flawed the US-system really is. The system is too much centered around the personality of one person. That can't be right. European style of parliamentary democracy is so much better. Even though the Prime Minister gives face to power he/she is only the leader of the largest party and if need be there can be another leader.
  25. Erdogan will soon be done away with. Turkey is too strategic a country to be ignored but it can't be led by a megalomaniac lunatic. Either there will be another coup-attempt, this time successful or "an accident".
