  1. Congo also has vast natural resources. Why is Congo not one of the richest countries in the world as it should be?
  2. Nothing to do with the colour of the skin. More likely to do with empirical evidence as to why South-Africa is easily the wealthiest country in Africa. I wonder why. Or more pointedly, how could Rhodesia, the present-day Zimbabwe, be so prosperous only such a short time ago and look at its state now. I wonder why that is. Do you? Or closer to your home, the Dominican Republic and Haiti share the same tiny island but are two different countries. The D Rep is not exactly a very wealthy country but it is a world away compared to its neighbour. I wonder why. Do you?
  3. The state of the media in the west is deplorable. The press is more like a poodle of the elite rather than a watchdog which it is supposed to be.
  4. I'm sure you are told many times to loosen the tin foil-hat you must be wearing but as much as I hate conspiracy-theories I agree with most you wrote above. Everything what is going on in Europe and in the wider world regarding this so-called migrant-crisis is far too consistent to be co-incidental.
  5. Canada being a member of the British Commonwealth you probably must give some preference to fellow Commonwealth-members which in your hemisphere include countries like Jamaica and the Bahamas.
  6. Fairness is a relative concept. Using different criteria for different people may be someone's idea of fairness.
  7. I wouldn't say that. The Canada cup was a very popular tournament because it was effectively the "real" world championships.
  8. Hopefully olympics will be given in the future only to countries which can afford them.
  9. "Far-right" must be one of the biggest misnomers in politics.
  10. Very difficult for Europeans to move to Canada. The much-vaunted points based system concerns mainly Europeans.
  11. The French catholic church these days imports its priests from the former colonies as no Frenchman is interested in that profession any more.
  12. Only a generation ago in 1989 when the communist regimes of Eastern-Europe were overthrown in Poland the Catholic church was considered a major force for change. The difference couldn't be starker today. For today's Poles under the age of 35 religion is really irrelevant.
  13. Fortunately common sense prevails; usually a one second-glance is enough to tell you whether you can trust someone is in real need and not trying to rob you. Some people just look beyond suspicion.
  14. Speaking of holiday; I just started a four-week holiday. No work until Sept 26. As for travel, Jyväskylä is my usual destination and it will be that again. Perhaps I will venture into Pori and certainly into Vaasa but all my within the borders of Finland.
  15. Tourists driving in the USA are strongly adviced against stopping at any random areas between built-up areas. However, there is a world of difference of having your car breaking down in California in 30C as opposed to somewhere in Canada in -40C.
  16. Relatively speaking moving to Australia or New Zealand from the 18th century Britain was as daunting an idea as the idea today to move to a distant planet elsewhere in the universe. If Australia and NZ are today next door so could a different planet be in not such a long time away.
  17. Do you think expats should have the right to vote? On one hand they are citizens, on the other hand they don't have to live by the laws of the country they are citizens of.
  18. About that scenario of a car breaking down in the middle of nowherei most places in the USA as well as in Europe passing cars wouldn't dare stop to see if everything is ok for fear of a trap and attempted robbery at least if there is absolutely no other traffic anywhere around. I wonder how is it in Canada.
  19. Theresa May supported remain but she has promised to honour the referendum. Promising a referendum was a gamble by Cameron which he first won by winning the election, which wouldnt have happened otherwise but ultimately he lost the gamble as Brexit won, which left him no choice but to step down.
  20. The vast majority of the MPs in British Parliament were and are still staunchly against Brexit.
  21. The IOC didn't have the guts to ban Russians from the olympics because of state-sponsored doping because too much was at stake but they banned Russia from the paralympics as if doping was a big problem in paralympics. Such spineless muppets those guys are!
  22. People often dont appreciate their own country. It doesnt seem exotic or exciting enough as compared to travelling to some farawayland.
  23. In Europe abortion is banned in Ireland, Poland and Malta. That means that the Irish go to England, the Polish go to Germany and the Maltese go to Italy to have abortion.
  24. Russians still insist that the Baltic States joined the Soviet Union voluntarily and therefore Russians see no reason to apologize for the occupation and near-genocide of those three countries.
  25. Paralympics should be held at a bit longer time away from the actual olympics. Preferably another year. People might get interested in a different way. Now it's just "not again olympics" for most people.
