  1. Thanks Melanie! I advocate that February 28 be a special day off honouring the women who fought for us -- from sufferagettes in the early part of last century to the women of the 70's who burned their bras to the women of the 1980's and 90's who continued to try to break through the glass ceiling. They (and women today who continue the "fight") deserve to be honoured as the heroes that they are.
  2. oops double post
  3. ALL women alive today are feminists. If a woman has ever driven a car -- she is a feminist If a woman has ever voted - she is a feminist If a woman has ever held a job - she is a feminist If a woman has ever engaged in conversation with a male other than her husband, father or brother - she is a feminist. If a woman has ever initiated sex - she is a feminist If a woman has ever made a purchasing decision for her family - she is a feminist If a woman has ever gone braless in public - she is a feminist Every single thing we women do that we did not do one hundred years ago is "feminist". We should have a special day honouring women who have gone before us to fight for the levels of equality we enjoy today.
  4. Jefferiah, it's not about "institutionalizing" children. Please, take off your "Liberals are commies" tinfoil hat. It's about making it easier for families to find daycare spaces, which is a problem in some areas of the country.
  5. Poly, Jenna They simply refuse to see anything negative about the US's position. No matter how many facts are in their face "baaaaaa -- America goooooood" is the mantra. Nothing we say or link to will change these people's minds -- they are loved by the NAU because they will simply sit back and accept it. Why indeed is America letting in so many illegals from Mexico? Because later on they can say "see, we are together anyway in America so why not join countries and be done with it!" LOL Funny NO illegal Canadians are duckin' across the border at night tho -- what crazy nut would trade Canada for life in facist USA?
  6. What the hell is "closed minded" about CHOICE? Sheesh.... No one on the pro CHOICE side is advocating that we force anyone to abort. The same cannot be said about the anti CHOICE side -- they advocate that no one should have access to abortion. And that is wrong -- ramming your belief down someone's throat is wrong. The anti CHOICE side is wrong. Period. And of course, my mind is CLOSED to any other interpretation. I believe in one thing -- CHOICE. It is MY decision to carry a fetus or abort it -- no one can FORCE me to do either.
  7. If a woman cannot pay for an abortion -- how is she expected to pay to raise a child for 18 years? Would the taxpayer rather pay for a one-time procedure (abortion) or pay for the two of them (mom and child) for the next 18 years?
  8. Case in point: Lumber mill -- never ever hired a woman labourer before -- hired one. One out of 200 employees! ONE! They were not going to hire her, so she went to labour relations. The men razzed her like there was no tomorrow, but she has stuck it out and is a great asset to the company. She is as capable of any of the men. She pulls off the green chain, she handles those fir beams just like any "guy". I met her at hubby's Christmas party and was suprised to see she is about the same size and weight as me -- 120lbs or so... and yet there she is, working in a mill. You sexist men -- are you surprised? Do you think the mill "lowered" its standard for her? Nope. Now, women like to earn $21 per hour too, so how come most women (even single income earners) have to settle for working at WalMart for $9 an hour? Because it is DIFFICULT, even in 2006, for a woman to break into the lucrative labour market.
  9. Quoting nutbar women who practically call for the elimination of the opposite gender...It is like quoting Jerry Falwell and saying ALL christians are nutbar fanatics... These women DO NOT reflect how most feminists feel. Get it? I am sure that if you searched you could find comments from men that say "women should not vote" or "women should not own property or drive" or what ever else SOME men may say. This DOES NOT mean that ALL men are he-man woman haters DOES IT? Sheesh! If I could find these women, I'd bitch slap them myself -- they give the rest of us feminists a bad name.
  10. Pussy parents. That is why the youth culture of today is lost and drugged. My generation of parents has coddled the children from birth to their 30's -- giving them every thing they ever wanted. And what is the result? Drugged baggy pants little gangsta wannabes and girls whoring around at age 10. Can you imagine 30 years ago teens on a greyhound bus snearing and jeering at the seniors NOT being booted off? This happened just a couple months ago. The teens were really nasty to the seniors on the bus saying "you washed up wrinkled prune people, you will die soon and we will cheer!" and the like. 30 years ago the bus driver would have simply booted them off, middle of nowhere or not -- freeze to death you little ingrates! But NOOOO, the driver did nothing, none of the other passengers did anything either. A parent needs to PARENT. That means doling out appropriate punishment which sometimes means a good spanking. Why is there 10 and 11 year olds committing crimes? Because they KNOW that their parents, their teachers and the police can do absolutely nothing.
  11. jbg, I'd say it was a compliment... ...to Torontonians.
  12. Back when I was single and pregnant (I was 5 months along when I got depressed) I went to my doc to see if he could help. He says "We could send you to Seattle for an abortion". I wanted to keep the fetus, depressed or not, so no, I didn't go. So in the states they perform abortions after the first trimester, but in Canada they don't (obviously or he would not have said "Seattle", he would have said "the hospital") I believe in publicly funded abortion during the first trimester and in special circumstances, the second trimester. I also believe that the decision is only between a woman and whoever she decides to share the info with (not necessarily her doctor who may be anti-choice). I see no problem with abortion in the first or even the second trimester. For those who don't believe in abortion, are you willing to open your home to one of the tens of thousands of foster children? And for the person who keeps saying "those foster children were not aborted so their mothers didn't believe in abortion" -- I say BULL! How many of those women would have aborted if not for a "wellmeaning" idiot in their lives?
  13. With what money? Space exploration is a rather expensive endeavour and it seems all the US's money is being funnelled into making up wars at the moment.
  14. I will bet you 20 million dollars that this was not written by a.) a woman or b.) an invisible entity. It was written by men. Human men who, in their era, saw women as property to be controlled. ... and the world is flat AND the sun orbits the earth... We no longer believe the above, so why do some people continue to believe words written over 2000 years ago?
  15. Childcaer? How is that only a Woman's issue? Because all men do is beat and abuse women and control them. Forget about the father. He's just the sperm donar. We only need the father to pay child support. That's a all a father is good for. How is childcare a "women's issue"? Because 90% of the time it is the woman who has to deal with the daycare issue in her home. Even those homes with a mom and a dad, the mom still takes care of "where do we send junior". Throughout my son's life it has been me who found the daycare, me who stayed home from work if there was no daycare. Hubby's work remained unaffected. This is the case in most families. Yes of course there are a few dads that stay home (my new coworker's hubby stays home with the 2 yo) and a few dads that arrange the daycare or take the day off when the child is ill. A few -- and 10% would be a large number doing it, probably more like 2% of all fathers deal with daycare or stay home. No Mikedavid you are wrong, a father is a vital part of a child's development IMO.
  16. Fortunata - of that I have no doubt. Americans are being taught to fear everyone. To build walls. To batten down the hatches. And how many Americans would actually ever ever carry a loonie or toonie anyway? I'd say there are probably less than a dozen Canadian coins in the whole country!
  17. These are what I believe are Women's Issues: childcare shelters (for safety from nutbar husbands/boyfriends) pregnancy/abortion support Other than that I can't think of any other issues that apply to women over men.
  18. Why doesn't Bush just be honest and say something like: "We need to stay in Iraq to secure the oil because our country and many other western countries depend on it. And if we pull out now there is a large chance that extremists will take over and there goes our oil!" Honesty goes a long way.
  19. jbg, I think Borg was directing that at my post. Let us bow down and pray to the American "force for good in the world". garbage deleted.... sorry I was rather pi**y yesterday.
  20. 'nuff said. -k I would never live in any big city. If I can't get to work in under 10 minutes - I move. If it takes me more time to get across "town" as it does to drive up north to see my dad - I move. All cities suck in my opinion. Vancouver just sucks the least.
  21. ...separates sex and procreation... hmmm. So that means every little "squirt" ought to be at least TRYING to have a baby. You had better check your wife's temperature each time or you will be wasting your "squirts" and GOD KNOWS wasting squirts is the worst sin of all. If all men wasted their squirts there would be no families!!! Your loss. Tough luck if you cannot "tolerate" working next to a homosexual person. Not too many years ago (you must be really old leafless) a white guy (you are white guy right?) would not tolerate working with a black person. Society has moved on. Sorry 'bout that
  22. Ahhh but where else (but the BC Lower Mainland) can you go golfing or sailing in the morning and skiing in the afternoon? Although I would never live IN Vancouver (the city) - this is still the prettiest, warmest part of the country. Of course I am a biased born-and-bred BCer.
  23. reported. And reported the nasty PM as well. Chill out White Doors.
  24. I don't think it usually is surveyed is it? Calgary the same. Somethimes they are but sometimes they are now. All major cities in the world are "surveyed". Vancouver has consitently ranked among the top 5 best and most beautiful places to live. Check here: Best Cities Ottawa beat out Calgary But take heart -- Calgary beat out Honolulu
