  1. But all the jobs pay only minimum wage.... and all in (ewwwwww) tourism. Kidding -- I'm from BC and know we are doing well -- Albertans always think the only job creation here is min. wage tourism support positions and the ONLY highpaying jobs are in the oil patch.
  2. Not really. If a married woman gets pregnant her husband is considered to be the father even if he is not and his name will be on the birth certificate. Then it's a lie.
  3. Then there should be an adoption certificate. The birth certificate is a "certification of birth" with only DNA donors named.
  4. Aw come on now. Wouldn't you just loooove to see Condi Rice as Pres? And why indeed can't a woman be pres?
  5. I think it is ridiculous. The only people listed on the birthcertificate as parents should be the DNA donors. Period. This is a record of birth and has nothing to do with anything except the biological parents of the child. If a person adopts a child do we change the child's birth certificate? Of course not -- the DNA donors never change.
  6. For all of you that believe this new show is going to "slam" white males... have you ever watched "According to Jim" or "King of Queens"? Fat, stupid men with hot slim wives that are the only brains in the family. The men are blathering idiots. So how are these shows different than Little Mosque? Oh, I know -- they are NOT on the CBC.... of course.
  7. Is this $875 for healthcare insurance? Or does that include a new pair of glasses every month? Or are you on a really expensive medication? There is no way that your health premiums are $875 a month. This is an exageration. I used to pay $93 per month for my son and I. $63 when I was considered "low income". So $875 is kinda high IMO.
  8. Actually jbg, here in southern BC I would be better off learning Mandarin and Hindi.... but those two languages are not the official languages of Canada. French and English are both official languages in this country. This is not going to change. And I do not see what the problem is.
  9. Twisted hicks full of machismo also emulated by the more educated city dweller. Good One Leafless! A-holes come in all shapes and sizes and from all areas. But it does seem that those in small northern towns are more "set in their ways" as they are simply exposed to less diversity of humans (not necessarily race, but attitude). My bro has just moved here from up north and his g/friend (cute little redneck that she is) is having a hard time deciding if she wants to be in the "city". She is set in her ways and has never been exposed to anything other than the 4000 or so people she grew up with. I'll call her "naive". I hope she decides to come. She is really sweet and my bro really loves her - she'd never dream of getting a piercing
  10. ...yet France and Belguim (to name only two) are two countries on earth that don't necessarily use english at all. There are many countries on earth where the people don't speak english, yet they still manage somehow to have commerce. Amazing innit. In Canada if you want to work in civil service (for the Federal govt) then you need to know both official languages. This means, Leafless, that if I speak only English, then I will need to learn to speak french. This also means that my cousin who speaks only french will have to learn english. (If he or I want that job). What is unequal about this? Actually, I've heard that english is the most difficult language to learn, while learning french is not as difficult. So who is being discriminated against again? The french learning english or the english learning french?
  11. By our own admission you do not understand the mechanics of aircraft collision so your opinion on whether a jetliner hit the building or not is not that useful. You are like people 200+ years ago that said something like 'any idiot knows steel boats can't float'. Of course! Airplane wings must vanish into thin air when struck. *smacks palm on forehead*. Take a look at the Pentagon pictures for goodness sake. An airliner did not hit it. An airliner would have made a much larger mess. Have you seen the Pentalawn 2000 --- google it and see for yourself. Denial does not make reality.
  12. Of course the newly-revamped-effective-UN-of-the-futre would have soldiers from every country. Every single country on earth. No one country should have the burden of being the world's police officer. It should be representative of all countries including the ones the "we" don't like - N. Korea for example.
  13. From what I understand, and from limited personal experience in Montreal, the requirement of bi-lingualism from civil service participants is in fact highly discriminatory against English-speakers. Allegedly bi-lingual Federal security personal patrolling the Gomery hearing were not willing to speak English when I stumbled into the hearing area in search of a bathroom. They feigned not understanding the word "bathroom" and shook a set of handcuffs at me, until I said, awkwardly, "salle de baines, sivouplez (sp)". I understand from some career military people that their promotion and advancement career was destroyed by the discrimination in favor of Francophones. These are no piddling matters. If civil servants need both languages -- is it not discriminatory toward the french-only speaker as well? You coulda just pointed to your crotch and did the pee-pee dance! Works in all languages.
  14. A holier-than-thou attitude? A my way or the highway attitude? I too grew up in a resource based town and found that anything out of the ordinary was automatically suspect. In the 1970's when the first East Indians moved to our town it was terrible for them. I wanted to date this one guy -- he was soo hot, and he had a Camero... but my brother would have none of it. The other day, I got my belly button pierced and he totally freaked. Why? I have no idea. Just a redneck 'tude I guess. LOL
  15. If you click on the little arrow at the bottom right of your screen you will see the other forums (all sub-forums of the main MLW forum).
  16. I can travel anywhere in Canada, Mexico, India, Japan, Europe -- fearlessly. I said my fear was MY fear -- whether unfounded or not, I still own it. I did not say everyone should fear for their lives, I was stating how going to the states makes me feel NOW. I used to go there all the time. Now, after 911 I will not go. I have not changed, America changed. Sad. And it has nothing to do with pot (we generally leave it at home when we travel). Has everything to do with wanting to come home from a holiday, not be detained by some redneck a-hole at the border who thinks he's god. ... you asked about the word "bestest" -- and I told you the context. What?
  17. Ignoring the hypocrisy of your posts. Typical leftist reaction. Call me a redneck because I stated the truth. Sad, sad, sad. Still haven't heard you deny you are high right now... If you have ever read my opinion on any other topic besides America (I know how difficult it is for you, but America is NOT the only topic in the forum) you would know that I am not a lefty. Actually I lean quite far to the right in many ways. Of course it is difficult to read when drunk.... so you are excused. that you missed the part of my post that said I will be drinking some wine tonight and therefore will not be smoking any pot today. Mixing pot and booze is never a good thing.
  18. Actually you have the right to contact your consulate. Pesky things those facts... Is bestest really a word? Puff, puff... Ricki Bobbi (split personality disorder?) I have a fear of going to the states. Whether founded or unfounded does not matter. I refuse to go there. This is my personal choice. "Bestest" is used by redneck chillun (and adults) -- "My cuntry is the bestest, the freeest in the hole werld - we r a forse 4 good".
  19. You say that, but your response to the OP was. Sounds like a real opening to discussion there .... Gotta love hypocrisy. Spark another one Cheech! (I'm putting you on about the weed because I know the mood swings chronics go through.) You still stuck on that pot thang? Redneck can't let it go
  20. The only reason to be afraid to travel to Canada would be running into pretentious silver-spoon socialists filled with hatred for the US because they *have to* hate somebody and they are masking their inferiority complex with a veneer of principled opposition. You will never ever set foot in America again? You went in the 90s when the dollar was at 60 cents but you won't go back now while it is approaching 90 cents? Never took economics I take it. Why would they detain me the next time I go to the US? I don't break their laws while I am there. I don't promote the violent destruction of the US or associate with people who do so. What rights do foreigners have in any country other than their own? Fear is only as real as you make it. Break your addiction to MaryJane and free your mind... Brilliant! But I thought Tijuana was the Happiest Place on Earth! That's what Krusty said... Aw sweety, Mexico is more than just Tijuana! You poor thing, never looked at a map.... Yes, fear is only as real as we make it. And rightly or not, I am personally afraid to go to the states. This is my tough luck as I won't get to spend my hard earned dollars there. What a pity (NOT!) Get over the "Canada has an inferiority complex". Maybe a generation ago when the US was a great country. But today, nope, doesn't wash. Sorry. You still stuck on that pot thang? Redneck just can't get past it....
  21. No, I'm not afraid to travel to Canada. But then, I'm not afraid to travel to Muslim countries either. So much for my fear of Arabs, eh? (BTW, do you live in an igloo? ) In case you're unawer of it, as an American, I have no rights on Canada's soil. That's the way this world works. It doesn't make me scared to travel, though. But enjoy your trip to Mexico. I'm sure you'll be much safer there than on a layover in the United States, because nothing bad ever happens to foreigners in Mexico. That Canadian couple that was killed had mafia type connections. I don't. I'm just a regular gal. Actually you do have rights while in Canada. Just like any Canadian citizen you have the right to a phone call and a lawyer if you are accused of a crime. Like I said, I used to to twice a month and I always enjoyed our weekends in Seattle. America HAS changed. Face it don't deny it. America is no longer the safest, bestest country. Its Russia revisited. I don't live in an igloo but I did help build one back in the day. And snowforts -- how fun! People across the world are afraid of America, afraid of its roughshod foreign policy, afraid to travel there. It's the new reality. Get used to it.
  22. What? How many papers were you mentioned in Canada? Touching the Grey Cup is such a newsworthy event and all. Is there a segment on the National coming up about Drea's special experience with the Grey Cup? You said the time and you swore but you didn't deny being high ... A little wake and bake me thinks. I would have been perfectly willing to discuss the fact that some newspapers cover it and some don't. But NOOO, you had to go and insult me. Why? Did that make you feel good? Does it make you feel good to insult folks? Some people don't believe American football is that important. Obvioulsy you are not one of them. That is ok. But I don't go around saying "you are dillusional, or you are wasted". (Unless provoked of course) By the way, I'm going out tonight and probably will have a couple glasses of wine. Therefore I will not smoke any pot today (bad bad mixing pot and alcohol). Just because a person admits that they like to smoke pot does not mean they smoke it 24/7. Duuuuuuuuuh. So every time I post you will pull out "you are high!". Sigh.
  23. Are we? We may look and sound alike but our attitudes are poles apart. Are you afraid to travel to Canada? I and many people I know are afraid to travel to the US. In the early 90's I'd go at least twice a month but you will not ever get me to set foot there again. Not now. Anyone can be detained -- it's like Russia used to be. Scary shit IMO. Of course, not scary for you as an American citizen your rights are protected. Foreigners on your soil have no rights whatsoever. We are planning a holiday in Mexico and I will only go if there is a direct flight and we don't have to touch down in the states. Sorry but I am not the only one in the world who feels this fear. It's more real than your folks' fear of arabs.
