Kyoto is nothing but a waste of money. It does nothing for the enviroment in our country or the beneficiary (of our money) country. It only lines pockets. IMO Automobiles have come a long way and I don't think vehicles have much of an impact in the scheme of things anyway. Higher polluters are aircraft, ships, factories and the like. And reducing emmissions needs to be affordable, both on the personal and industrial levels. Somebody (yooo hooo!, right wing organizations) should plaster the TV and newspapers with ads outlining what Kyoto is really all about!

Get a grip. Killing an animal for food is entirely different than torturing it for entertainment. I grew up on a ranch with 300 head. We killed 'em, we ate 'em -- but we never, never tortured them for fun. (dewlapping is not for fun, neutering is not for fun, de-horning is not for fun -- stabbing a horse or bull with spurs for the express purpose of getting it "angry" is torture IMO.

Obviously the young woman needed counselling. She obviously did not want to be pregnant as she hid it from everyone and dropped the baby off in the freezing cold. If she could've spoken to someone about her dilema she could of aborted, kept it, or given it up. Seems she didn't have the wherewithall to do any of these things.

Exactly White. For six to eight months the feus is entirely dependant on the woman's body for sustenance. When and if someone invents a way of aborting the fetus and keeping it alive artifically until it can live on it's own, then others can have a say in what happens to it. As it stands today the female MUST carry the fetus or abort the fetus. These are the only two choices currently available. What about that 1 hour old baby that was found on a doorstep at 29 below? Apparently the 18 yo girl hid her pregnancy under baggy clothes and obviously didn't get any counselling or assistance whatsoever. She gave birth by herself. Once men start carrying the fetus then they will have the right to abort or not. As it stands today, women (ergo, the female gender in 99% of species) carries the offspring. So it remains the female's decision - and, in our wonderful western society, women have dominion over their own bodies. ('cept for in some backward states where abortion has recently become illegal)

My hubby too refuses to really look at the "unofficial" evidence regarding the towers. He's with me on the "no plane hit the Pentagon" because he heard it first hand on the news that day -- a reporter standing near the Pentagon saying "Oh my God, a blackhawk helicopter just crashed!" Now if that reporter would have saw a jet airliner -- he would not have mistaken it for a helicopter.

Riverwind, The money one holds in their hand is an IOU. It is a promisory note. The promise is that a bank will give you money (gold) in exchange for this note. As Paper is easier and lighter to carry than gold, paper became the standard. Now, today there is not enough gold on earth to cover all the IOU promisory notes so it becomes virtual money. The gold to back it up does not exist. Not only that but there is a finite amount of "money" on the earth. For simplicity sake lets say there are 20 "dollars" (promisory notes) on the planet in total ($20 worth of gold is stored somewhere to back up the 20 promisory notes). Each of those 20 is worth 1 dollar. If 20 more dollars are created (printed, minted) and there are now 40 dollars on the earth, each of those 40 is now worth 50 cents. Every time more promisory notes or coins are created the purchasing power of each decreases. This is in the simplest terms and I only took college economics so this is all I know about the subject. Read Poly's links. The banking/monetary system is responsible for many things, good and bad. Did you know that the first banks were started by the Knights Templar? To protect the Christian pilgrims. The pilgrims would be robbed if they carried gold so the Templars gave them a signed "note" saying that when they got to their destination, another Templar would give them the gold in exchange for that note. Voila! Paper money and banking!
