  1. In his speech today in Vancouver Harper said that he has a "holistic" plan to protect the environment. Whatever that means. He promised to let us in on the details next week. He'll hit a pop fly...that is my guess.
  2. I'm sure that God never imagined that trillions and trillions of animals would be poluting the Earth one day. And I bet you that when he gets a chance to correct this he'll make all the homosexuals heterosexual and vice versa. So when you wake up one morning and feel strange urges, don't worry 'bout it, it's God's will.
  3. So what is the Cons strategy? Tell Mr. Ford in Windsor to scram back to Detroit? How will that help the air quality? Don't get me wrong ... I hope they do. Go IGGY GO!
  4. I'll believe it when I see it! Russia is being portrayed as doing poorly for a reason.
  5. Isn't that the guy who wrote: For all we have and are For all our children's fate Stand up and take the war Muslims are at the gate!
  6. Read Preston Manning's book "THINK BIG" and your opinion of Harper may change awfully quick. Harper is NOT a good man! Not that that neccessarily disqualifies him from being a good PM. GO IGGY GO!!
  7. According to standard dictionaries, the definition of an intellect is a person of great mental ability. I stand by my choices. PHDs are routinely conferred on people of average mental ability. As for Profs ... sometimes I think the majority of them are really rather dumb, uninspired, follow-the-pack sort of folks. It's rare to actually see one exhibit above average mental ability.
  8. Do you have a better choice for elections? Is there a test one would have to pass in order to be able to vote? Your choice of *intellectuals* would lead to a never ending succession of Liberal and NDP governments. Maybe not the ideal choice... The Reform had an intellectual leader... Preston & now the CPC has one ... Stephen , whereas we had a government led by a decidely non intellectual Liberal for decades (P'tit Jean). So it appears that your connection between intellectuals & Liberals doesn't hold water. As for the NDP?? Good lord! Bobble Head Layton, Broadbent ... intellectuals? Methinks you're all wet.
  9. Well who do you want to elect our PM? A group of grade school graduates from Come By Chance Newfoundland? I'm sure they're good & honest & hard working ... but perhaps not the people to make Canada's decisions. Why do you think that the British parliamentary system insitutued the House of Lords. For fear that the average Joes would elect average Joes who had average brains & made average decisions, rather than smart ones. "Intellectual" is not an insulting word. It's considered praise. The CPC leader would certainly not be insulted if you called him that either... as Stephen surely is one.
  10. You got it right! Which proves that it wasn't THAT confusing. It sure would be nice to see the best (Ignatieff) and the second best (Harper) duking it out. And if Mr. Ignatieff were to be, by some miracle, denied the Liberal brass ring I'd just switch to Mr. Harper, it's as simple as that! What I'm sure of is that if these two men meet, Ignatieff will chew him up and spit him out sideways. Over and over again. But whether it will be enough, THAT I'm not so sure about.
  11. There's a big big, BIG difference between holding him to a minority (Ignatieff) and handing him outright a majority government on the platter (all others). GO IGGY GO!
  12. That's because we brought our wallets with us, the Russian cheapolas didn't.
  13. Doesn't ANYBODY here care that if Dion is elected we'll need an "English to English" translator? Maybe da liddle guy will offer his services. I don't doubt it, I can't understand a bloody thing out of that guys mouth and I'm functionally bilingual. On the other hand Harper's French is more comprehendable to me then a fluent Quebecois'. So maybe Dion's English is more comprehendable to second language English speakers then say my English? Then how come that when when you & I attended that unofficial debate among Liberal leadership candidates last month in Surrey where Dion said: "We are playing the role of Canada in the century" it was you who deciphered it, telling me that what he really meant to say was, "What is at stake is the role Canada can play in the new century." Remember? I think it was your knowledge of French that helped you. My knowledge of Czech didn't help me one iota. Maybe YOU could be his translator!
  14. So is Arnie Schwartzenegger. The guy who spews ozone depleting cigar smoke into the air daily, the guy whose fleet of Hummers spew 4X more carbon dioxide than the average car, the guy who lowered Cauli-fornia's tax on these and other luxury vehicles. So why is Arnie suing both, Toyota and Honda, for NOT meeting emission standards? I agree that Canada should set standards for Canada's automakers, i.e. DeLorian, but not for other countries' manufacturers. Penalize them if you must by not allowing them to be sold in Canada. So what if, in the end, all we're driving are a bunch of stainless steel two-cilinder DeLorians. If Siberians offered Canada a big fat contract for their home heating wood & coal-burning stoves be built in Canada, should we refuse? Mexicans would snap it up in an Acapulco minute.
  15. Dion will win ... Sure he will! Let's keep on plugging others, because if the truth comes out that there is a shoe-in in this race people will become disinterested. GOOD WORK, BOYS & GIRLS !!!
  16. I don't understand your question? Are you asking if Ontarians should buy more Ontario produced big 3 vehicles? No. I just don't understand why Ontario is upset that they are going to MAKE gas guzzling vehicles (i.e. the souped up Camaro). They're just PRODUCING them. By doing that, does it preclude them from putting in whatever loco leftie laws that they want regarding emissions etc for their province? Do they have to BUY some of their production, or can they not just make 'em & ship 'em ( to some less socialist places like the US? Excluding Cauli-fornia of course.)
  17. I have a question. Is it required of Ontarians to sell some of the American vehicles that are built in Ontario in Canada.
  18. Here in Vancouver someone drives a car with the personalized licence plate 'BLACK DOG'. I always wondered if it's BD.
  19. Doesn't ANYBODY here care that if Dion is elected we'll need an "English to English" translator? Maybe da liddle guy will offer his services.
  20. Back in September she wrote this wince-inducing boner: "Ignatieff is a long shot ... he should get himself a good set of worry beads, pronto." Ask Warren Kinsella if you don't believe me.
  21. In Yaffe's article today she is talking about Eddie Goldenberg's new book on Chretien, and the ONLY reason that I can think of why she's doing that is to shill her pick. Look what she says: "The book provides fascinating insights from Goldenberg on one of the leading contenders in the Liberal leadership contest, Stephane Dion. In cabinet, he confides, when Dion spoke "his colleagues put down their coffees, stopped signing correspondence and listened attentively." "He was recognized by even his fiercest adversaries as the perfect example for those who go into politics for principle, who serve selflessly and who are prepared to take a lot of slings and arrows for doing what they think is right." Dion's relationship with Chretien was "almost one of father and son." Chretien "had tremendous admiration for his new minister's guts and determination in joining the cabinet in the darkest days, and then in taking on the solidly hostile political class in Quebec and challenging the conventional wisdom there." I hate to tell you Babs but the only reason his collegues put down their pencils and listened attentively was because his English is horrendous and they were trying to decode what he was saying. And if you think that his "almost father and son" relationship with Chretien will help his chances .... I'd say not! I generally like Yaffe but she's off of her rocker on this one, IMHO.
  22. I must admit, you're just about the best jaw-jawer here. If not the best.
  23. I couldn't agree more. It's stupid to provoke someone who is much stronger.
  24. Or I read it in my #1 daily. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/is...4a-627edbf7b549 I'm not certain.
